The first team line-up for DPMM FC against Albirex Niigata FC last night at the Jurong East Stadium. DPMM FC won 1-0 with a penalty courtesy of Rodrigo Tosi.
What a way to start the season!! DPMM FC held on for an important win as they grind out three points at the Jurong East Stadium against Albirex Niigata FC in the S•League 2014 season. This is also Steve Kean’s first competitive game in charge with a win under his belt. Rodrigo Tosi was the only scorer of the game with a 15th minute penalty effort after he was brought down by Kazuki Kishigami of Albirex Niigata FC.
But it was the heroics of stand-in keeper for DPMM FC, Azman Ilham who produced a man-of-the-match performance after pulling off a string of great saves to deny the home team a goal. Wardun Yussof, DPMM FC’s first choice keeper was still serving suspension for the sending him he had last season.
Steve Kean’s DPMM FC head coach played a 4-4-2 formation and the tactics paid off handsomely. The only noticeable difference is that prolific striker Shahrazen Said didn’t start the game like he usually does. He was an unused substitute but this also shows the depth of squad that DPMM FC has as compared to before. Another regular first team player was Azwan Salleh who played as a second half substitute.
DPMM FC started brightly and looked more dangerous in attack. Rodrigo Tosi and Roy O’Donovan were connecting well upfront. It was Tosi who drew first blood as he scored through a penalty that he earned. DPMM FC had a few more clear cut chances but failed to capitalize and they could have put the game beyond doubt.
Albirex Niigata FC gave it their all and they did the best they can to score but the compact defending and numerous heroics save by Azman kept the home team at bay. DPMM FC were also fortunate to get away from a mini blunder when Sairol Sahari screwed the ball just pass DPMM FC’s goal area after the constant pressure in attack by the Japanese club.
Niigata were much better in the second half as they kept pressing at DPMM FC’s goal area but the defence line stood firm throughout the game. Albirex played a passing game with a much better paste than their opposition.
Steve Kean believes there is more room from improvement. “We have not played to our maximum and Albirex is a good side. They kept the ball well. It could have been 2-0 with our players missing a few,” shared Steve during the interview. “Alberix is very technical team and I told my guys at half time, be careful and don’t give them space and just stick to them with a rigid formation.”
Steven responded highly when asked about Azman’s performance as a goalie. “He is getting better and we have a very good (goalie) coach, Zainul and we expect them (goalie reserves) to have some games.”
The confidence in the dressing room is quite high according to Steve Kean. He also learnt that DPMM FC is a tight unit, more discipline and having more shape.
DPMM FC next game will be on Friday, 28th February at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium. Congratulations to DPMM FC and Happy 30th National Day to all my readers too.

Too bad I won’t be around for the actual 30th National Day celebration tomorrow in Brunei Darussalam since I’m currently in Singapore. Well, at least, on the bright side, I won’t miss DPMM FC’s first game in the S•League as they take on Albirex Niigata FC tonight and I will be attending the Brunei National Day celebration in Singapore tomorrow evening.
Below are some of the pictures taken from my circle of friends and myself and also images taken from The Brunei Times. I would like to acknowledge Omar Abu Thahirudeen, Fazizul Haqimie, Wanee, Marul and Anak Brunei.
By the way, if you are posting images on instagram relating to the 30th National Day, do include the hashtag #bruneiku30 and you will stand a chance to win the latest apparels from @fizzyfireapparel (Merdeka theme). The winners will be announced on 3rd March 2014.
Before I end, a big hand to the ministries and the organisers in coordinating this spectacle and I know it will be a fulfilling one for the country. Let’s focus on the positive side and unite as a country. A big hand to all the participants especially the students involved. I do miss being part of a celebration and I don’t mind reviving that nostalgia feeling.
All the best you all tomorrow. I hope I’m able to catch this on RTB International tomorrow.

I missed this event yesterday but not to worry as I have a few shots of how the new uniforms of Royal Brunei Airlines look like. Yesterday Royal Brunei Airlines unveiled their new heritage-inspire uniforms for cabin crew and this is in continuation of the rebranding program of Royal Brunei Airlines (RB).
The new uniforms symbolizes a unique culture of Brunei Darussalam with the world. It still maintains the traditional feel with a simple modern touch.
If you look closely at the female uniform, the blouses have been tastefully detailed with traditional songket patterns along the hem, trim and back. Colours will range from coral dust to morning sky to fresh mint, based on the seniority of the crew. It reflects the friendly and welcoming nature of the new RB brand.
As for the male crew, they will be wearing three-piece suits in matching brown, with a similar spectrum of Malay-inspired shirts and traditional standing collars.

YB Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Abdullah Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar, the Minister of Communications was the guest of honour with the presence of YB Dato Paduka Hj Bahrin Hj Abdullah, RB’s Chairman, members of RB’s Board of Directors, esteemed guests from the Ministry of Communications and Brunei’s Department of Civil Aviation.
Did you know that this particular project was developed, implemented and completed in Brunei? The design work was completed internally to ensure the new ensemble reflects Bruneian tradition. The fabrics are tailored by Brunei based Khazanah Lady House.
So when will you see the new uniforms on the RB cabin crew? Well, by early April, you will be able to witness the new uniforms when RB launch the Boeing 787 Dreamliner services to Melbourne. For those who are attending the National Day parade, you will be able to get a sneak preview of the new uniform this Sunday.

DPMM FC upon arrival at Changi Airport yesterday. They will take on Albirex Niigata FC tonight
With just hours away, DPMM FC will have their first game in the new season of the S•League tonight against Albirex Niigata FC and this will definitely be an interesting season for DPMM FC. All eyes will be on their new head coach Steve Kean who has quite a high profile being a former manager of Blackburn Rovers. DPMM FC also have filled in the final spot of the import player with their own marquee player, Roy O’Donovan, a former Sunderland striker.
Steve Kean was in confident mood upon arrival at the Changi Airport with the DPMM FC management and squad team yesterday. “It’s good. It has been a fantastic pre-season and the lads have a six week preparation. The progress, both physically and tactically, that had made training quite exceptional. Not one player has missed one session, “ shared Steve Kean.
“I think Albirex are a good side and I watched a friendly match against the Warriors. I think technically they are good, playing a passing game. They are young and athletic players.”
When asked about the new tactical formation Steve has been experimenting, he believes it’s more than just a formation. “We have played with both systems (3-5-2 and 4-4-2). I don’t think the actual system matters but most important is that we play a passing game and build from the back.”
Steve Kean is hungry for results and he opted for results rather than performance but of course, he hopes for both results and performances from the lads.
I shall be covering their first match later this evening. It will be held at the Jurong East Stadium, a 7:30pm kick-off. Last night, Tampines Rovers beat Home United 1-0 in the season’s opener as well as the Charity Shield combined.

Chan Key Hong, Executive Director of Maju Motors, Colin Tong, Public Relations & Communication of Volkswagen Group Singapore and Ammirul Adnan, Marketing Executive of Maju Motors inside the new Volkswagen Vento
Thank you, Wanee, for covering for me. Few days ago, Maju Motors Sdn Bhd unveiled their all new family sedan, Volkswagen Vento. The best thing about about the Vento is its budget-friendly price-tag for a German brand.
So what’s equipped in the VW Vento? it’s a 1.6 litre power with 16 valve-petrol engine with multi-point fuel injection (MPI). It sports a six-speed automatic transmission with Triptonic manual override. Even on a fully loaded scenario (full passengers based), the Vento still has the power to pick up speed effortlessly.
The braking system also has improved with the latest generation anti-lock bracing system. The safety features are also a high point. The Vento comes with Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS). So for instance, in a serious accident, the doors will be unlocked and also disable the fuel pump while the hazard lights are switched on. Pretty cool.
The Vento is officially launched on 21st to 23rd February 2014. All of you are welcome to view the Vento while enjoy the weekend activities such as balloon sculpting, face painting etc.
Additionally, anyone who test drives a Vento over the weekend launch will stand a chance to win a pair of return tickets to Singapore or Kuala Lumpur.
For more information on the VW Vento, you can call 2655111 to talk to the sales executives or drop by the VW showroom at Jln Telanai.

The Edox dinner event at Raffles Town Club, Singapore, last evening
My first Singapore coverage on my 2nd trip here and thank you to Pamela Tan for the invitation. Crystal Time is definitely making their presence felt in Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei. As you know Crystal Time carries some of the strong brands such Luminox, Columbia, Soleus and Arbutus to name a few and last night, Crystal Time had a media launch of the Edox which has been around for more than 130 years. I was kinda impressed with the history of Edox as it was created and founded through an act of love by Christian Rufli-Flury.
The Edox brand is known for its precision, performance and perfection especially in sports. In 2012, Edox became the official timekeeper for the Dakar Rally Raid and from there, they launched the Chronorally collection that was designed and engineered to withstand the most extreme of environment: speed, mud, snow, shocks, heat etc.
Last year, Edox became the official timekeeper for the Extreme Sailing Series (ESS) and for the World Curling Federation (WCF) and from then, Edox launched the Grand Ocean collection together with the Limited Edition Extreme Sailing Series watches.
Currently, there is a competition of the Extreme Sailing Series happening in Singapore (20-23 February 2014) and it is happening at the Promontory @ Marina Bay, Singapore. And yes, Edox is the official timekeeper for this event.
Over dinner last night, Crystal Time management hosted resellers and members of media from newspaper to magazine and they also invited two special guests - Nick Crabtree, Team Director of GAC Pindar and Andrew Pindar, Director of GAC Pindar in the Extreme Sailing Series and both are wearing the Edox Grand Ocean collection *Sweeetttt*
Also present was the Tan Soo Khoon, Managing Director of Crystal Time, and I just googled him and wow, he does have quite an interesting resume and he was once a politician, a long-serving Speaker of Parliament before returning to his family business. He shared that it was about time they revived back the brand of Edox to Singapore, Malaysia and even Brunei and he’s confident that the brand will be well received after the launch.
Last night I had a sneak preview of the Grand Ocean Extreme Sailing Series, Special Edition, the Edox Chronorally 1 - Chronorally Automatic and the Edox Class 1 - GMT Worldtimer. Personally, I love the Grand Ocean Ultra Slim :D It’s just elegant and suits me well. Then again, I’m not much of a watch user.
Thank you once again to Crystal Time for the invitation. The dinner event took place at Raffles Town Club. I kinda love the ambience there too and feel privilege as it’s only a member’s area.
