It was all set and done. We know who will face each other in the semi-finals. The host nation Brunei just missed the cut for the top four finish after come 3rd best in the round robin of the 8th Youth Asian Netball Championship of Group A. They were pitted against defending champions Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan and India. Brunei U-21 managed to get two wins out of four games and that was pretty awesome feat considering that they only took eight months to build the squad. Now Brunei U-21 team is vying for 5th spot in the competition as they will take on Maldives tomorrow at 2:30pm.
Malaysia beat HK last night with a convincing victory 51-19. The Malaysians also beat Brunei a day earlier with a similar score line 50-19. But it was the crucial match between HK and Brunei which decides who will come 2nd in the Group A and Hong Kong just edged Brunei 38-34 in a tightly contested match.
One of the favourites Sri Lanka had an easy game against Singapore as they beat them 63-40 yesterday. The result meant that unbeaten Sri Lanka topped Group B and they even had smashing score lines especially against Nepal and Maldives where they beat them 133-10 and 112-06 respectively. Singapore’s only loss in the group meant that they will be runners-up. Hence it does set up a mouth watering match between Singapore and Malaysia in the semi-finals later this morning at 9:00am at the Indoor Stadium.
Let’s hope Brunei will win their two remaining matches and finish top 5 in the tournament. Keep up the great work team and also to the coach and the management in rebuilding the youth netball team.
The match between Singapore and Sri Lanka yesterday. Sri Lanka beat Singapore 63-40 and topped Group B
Sri Lanka are quick and very agile in their movement
I foresee them being in the finals
Malaysia vs Hong Kong was pretty one-sided too as they beat HK 51-19 yesterday
Woman to woman marking helps to close down opponents but you need the finese to consistently do it. The Malaysians are pretty good at it.
