DPMM FC’s line up last night against Courts Young Lions at Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium. Image courtesy of @ahmad_ajeeb
The drizzle didn’t cause much problem for DPMM FC’s gameplay but it didn’t turn out well for the visitors who let in 6 goals and handed DPMM FC, one of their biggest victory in the S•League.
Steve Kean was already wary of the Under-23 and he felt it will be a challenging match as the Lions were out there to prove a point. They stole a point at Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium last season so they would want to better their efforts.
However, the quality of DPMM FC was too much for the depleted Lions who were missing two key players.
Young Lions had a shocking lead through Sherif El-Masri in the 23rd minute through a deflection and that somehow was the final threat that the Young Lions had on DPMM FC’s Wardun Yussof.
Roy O’Donovan, DPMM FC marquee player, scored his first goals on home soil with a brace despite nursing an injured thumb. His team mate Rodrigo Tosi scored a brace as well, followed by goals from Roberto Alviz and Azwan Ali.
Azwan became the first home grown player to score for DPMM FC this season and it was the icing on the cake as he scored in injury time to make it 6-1.
The win put DPMM FC back to second spot in the S•League, two points behind league leaders Tampines Rovers who suffered their first loss of the season against Hougang United a few days ago.
DPMM FC head coach didn’t expect a flurry of goals as DPMM FC registered the largest marginal win this season. Steve Kean shared the goal difference can be very important in the near future.
He was happy that DPMM FC took their chances as compared to previous matches where they failed to make their chances count and dropped points.
Aide Iskandar, Courts Young Lions head coach, was very confident prior to the match but reality sunk in as his players couldn’t cope with the pressure as DPMM FC went on attack mode till the final whistle.
DPMM FC will now take on Harimau Muda, basement team in the S•League, this Friday at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium.

Well, I won’t say that we show the whole movie but I managed to be invited by Sony Pictures (Singapore) as the bloggers from Singapore and I were invited to a press sneak preview of the first 15 minutes of Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. So, of course, I won’t be spoiling to you guys what we saw. Some scenes were more elaborated from the trailers that we are familiar with.
What blew me off is Golden Village Cinema (GVC) GV MAX 3D experience. It’s not the IMAX version but it’s the 3D experience that I enjoyed so much. This may sound cliche but the 3D format for the sequel is “AMAZING”. I can’t wait to come here again for the special premiere later this month at Golden Village Cinema at Vivo City.
A big shout out to Tiffany for recommending me and also to Sony Pictures Singapore for the special invitation. I’m truly honoured and I also get to meet other local bloggers from Singapore. One interesting blogger I met was Rachel who is a music blogger who covers on concerts and music in general and another was Hisham, a blogger who blogs about tech stuff and arts, well, mostly tech stuff.
Anyway, do listen to my latest podcast on our take on the characters as well as the experience at the Golden Village Cinema’s GV Max theatre powered by dolby Atmos Surround Sound.

I have always wondered how it is behind the scenes at Royal Plaza on Scotts, a hotel that has been around for 40 years and still growing strong. Today it’s running on full capacity and apparently it has been in this state for many weeks already. This just shows that Royal Plaza on Scotts is one of the most sought hotels among travelers and this is also a favourite hotel among Bruneians.
Last week I had the privilege to tour around the work place area of Royal Plaza on Scotts and I was impressed how this prestigious hotel take care of their associates in the hotel. Thank you, Julian, for the tour and I finally get to meet the General Manager of Royal Plaza on Scotts, Patrick Fiat who has been part of the hotel since 1998.
One of the rooms that that caught my eye was the CHILLAXLOUNGE where the staff of Royal Plaza is able to relax and chill during their breaks. Occasionally there will be a masseuse to pamper the staff. Thumbs up to the management in making this environment for the internal staff of Royal Plaza on Scotts.

Catch the match tonight between DPMM FC and Courts Young Lions
This is an important game for DPMM FC to get back to winning ways after only gaining 1 point in the last two games. DPMM FC will take on Courts Young Lions who have been struggling in the S•League with only one point in the five games they have played. Despite the visitor’s being 2nd from bottom of the league, DPMM FC won’t take this match lightly.
Did you know the Young Lions are Singapore U-23 team? Their results may not be favourable but they came close in getting points against Woodlands and Tampines Rovers only to have their hopes dashed by late goals. They were also one of the teams to gain a point at Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium with odds heavily against them last year. So this could be DPMM FC’s bogey team if DPMM FC fail to capitalize their home ground advantage.
Steve Kean expressed his thoughts, saying how challenging these matches can be tonight.
“I always think that these games are in a strange way just as difficult… if not, more difficult than playing against teams at the top of league,” said Kean in an interview with Yee Chun Leong of The Brunei Times yesterday at the Jerudong Mini Stadium.
“We may be better on paper but we all know that games are not won on paper. We will respect the other team and make sure we give them that,” he said. “They are a team filled with young players who will be eager to impress and try to get results. We must try to grab control of the game as early as we can. If we play anywhere near like against Tampines then I’m sure we will do very well,” continued the former Blackburn Rovers coach.
Aide Iskandar, coach of Singapore U-23 team, hopes his team can cause an upset against DPMM FC.
“Hopefully DPMM FC will be over-confident that my players are young and them slightly. Then they will see what my players are capable of, “ said Aide in an interview with Redzwan Kamarudin of The New Paper. “We still don’t have one of our main strikers, Sahil Suhaimi, and Jordan Webb is suspended so we are not at full strength.”
To those who are watching tonight, you can stand a chance to win an air ticket to Kuala Lumpur or Jakarta and there will be 8 other consolation prizes.
On another note, it was a surprise to see Tampines Rovers conceded 3 goals in the first 12 minutes as they suffered their first lost of the season in a 4-2 defeat by Hougang United.

Will we see future DPMM FC players from Sports School one day? This is a sure possibility as Sports School’s aim is to produce quality athletes and football is one of their schemes. Yesterday DPMM FC club management and players came to pay an official visit to Sports School.
Steve Kean, head coach of DPMM FC, hopes for a strong relationship between DPMM FC and Sports School and hopefully from there, they can identify new potential players.
Did you know that Azwan Ali used to be part of Sports School programme? Now he is playing for featured as DPMM FC’s first team player and he’s settling in well in his position, giving DPMM FC more attacking options.
Kean highlighted that Sports School can be a breeding ground in nurturing players as DPMM FC doesn’t have a youth academy so the bonding between DPMM FC and Sports School is vital.
DPMM FC had a motivational talk to the U-15 players football team from Sports School. DPMM FC club also gave match tickets to the Sports School to catch DPMM FC’s next home against Courts Young Lions this Sunday at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium.

It was a step down performance from DPMM FC after failing to get back to winning ways. The first three games saw DPMM FC earning a full 9 points but only managed to collect one point from the last two games. Despite holding 2nd place in the S•League, it was still a huge improvement as compared to last season.
Before the match, the odds were against Geylang International FC and they were almost at the foot of the table. A big applause to GIFC for holding their defence till the very end as DPMM FC squandered two great chances to gain all the three points. Yuki Ichikawa scored the opening goal in the 17th minute after a Wardun failed to grab an easy catch and the Japanese import from GIFC kick the ball from close range for the shock lead.
Brunei DPMM FC redeemed themselves after a nice set-piece cross from Azwan Salleh who was in for Sairol Sahari who still nursing a knock on his knee from the previous game. Rodrigo Tosi scored from an Azwan delivery free kick to make it 1-1 in the 21st minute. Tosi was disappointed with himself as he had another chance after Azwan Ali had a perfect cross down the left wing but Tosi misconnect the shot which was a goal opportunity.
The first half ended with both sides not creating enough chances but more of challenging high balls in midfield. Roy O’Donovan who was on a cast after a minor surgery on his thumb, was involved but failed to muster a shot in the first half.
The second half was a slightly better affair with a few counter attack moments. However, both sides couldn’t find the net and I also just realised how the pitch was uneven and bumpy as well which made it slightly tricky to play on. Tosi was gifted another chance in the 49th minute after a counter attack and one of the best run of play from DPMM FC but Tosi’s shot ended wide to the delight of the GIFC keeper.
Azwan Ali also had a great chance but his final choice of continuing to dribble instead of taking a shot in the box proved costly. It was already a great play by Roberto who fed Ali with a perfect through pass but Ali had a touch too many in the box and allowed GIFC to close him down in the 53rd minute.
GIFC had chances too in the second half. Hafiz Nor had a driving shot but wide of the post in the 57th minute. Hafiz could have bettered himself in the 71st minute after GIFC’s Ridhuan Muhammad bursted down the right wing and crossed to the unmarked Hafiz but he lost control of the ball and Wardun intercepted the ball to safety.
As the game was heading for a draw, O’Donovan could have sealed all three points as it was the best chance of the whole 90 mins. He only had the keeper to beat but his directed shot from close range was easily read by Joey Sim who had a commanding presence in goal. O’Donovan could have opted to pass the ball to Shahrazen who was also opened but it wasn’t to be DPMM FC’s night. The miss proved costly and both side shared the spoils.
Now DPMM FC have to focus on their next two games at home (6th April and 11th April) and let’s hope they gain full maximum six points to get back to winning ways.

The ritual handshake before the match
What a match!!! Unfortunately, DPMM FC failed to gain any points and surrendered to their first defeat of the season to defending champions Tampines Rovers with a 2-1 score line. What billed to be the clash of the titans early into the season, it was difficult to predict the winner prior to the match with both teams having a perfect start to the season with three consecutive wins.
DPMM FC started well in the first half and they could have bagged a few goals if it wasn’t for the poor finishing of DPMM FC in the final third. Roberto Alviz scored his first goal for the club after a well placed pass by Tosi in the 6th minute. The home team were dominant in most periods of the first half and it took a while for Tampines Rovers to settle in. DPMM FC’s marquee signing player Roy O’Donovan had a couple of chances in the first half but failed to find the net.
The visitors did create some chances but the defence was well marshalled by Boris Raspudic and Shahrulrizal while Wardun Yussof had one important save to make from Tampines midfielder Shahdan Sulaiman’s effort.
One player that caught my eye was Azwan Ali who seemed to have settled in quite well in his left attacking side role. He had many possession and caused a few problems whenever going forward. I see a bright future for the former Indera FC player and with more games, he will gain more experience and confidence. He was involved in most of the attacking opportunities but his team mates couldn’t convert the chances.
The beginning of the second half didn’t have the same pace as the first but it was Tampines who were hungrier of the two. The visitors finally managed to break DPMM FC’s defence with a goal by Miljan Mrdakovic in the 56th minutes. It was also DPMM FC’s first goal that they conceded in the season after three clean sheets. The Croatian took his chance, firing a low shot after DPMM FC failed to defend a simple attacking play from Tampines off a throw in.
The goal woke up DPMM FC and the home team started to pour in attacks. Captain Rosmin Kamis had his effort hit the post and to safety. O’Donovan also suffered the same fate when his open scoring opportunity saved by the post to the disappointment of the crowd. DPMM FC could have scored the winner but it wasn’t their luck with those two chances gone begging.
Rodrigo Tosi ,who had been scoring in every DPMM FC match, failed to find the net but he was instrumental in most of DPMM FC’s attacks. One of his efforts almost found the net when his intended cross went across the face of the goal only for O’Donovan to hit the side netting from close range.
I would have thought DPMM FC had the upper hand when Tampines Rovers had all their substitutes with 30 minutes remaining. I have to salute to Tampines Rovers defender Abdil Qaiyyim who stayed on the pitch till the end and fought off every challenge when DPMM FC attacked. He suffered a nasty fall after clashing with Subhi in the 62nd minute and Tampines had already used all their substitutes. However, he came back to the pitch despite limping occasionally and held the defence till the end.
Tampines Rovers deserved their second goal after a sloppy defending again by DPMM FC. Shahdan of Tampines scored late in the game in 88th minute with a low driving shot after DPMM FC failed to clear the ball. The visitors early had two great opportunities. However, Wardun had two great saves from Miljan Mrdakovic in a matter of three minutes. Despite Tampines having lesser scoring opportunities, they made it count and for the fifth time, DPMM FC failed to beat Tampines Rovers at their home ground.
DPMM FC may have lost the battle but on the positive note, they played with conviction and maturity on the field and based on their performance last night, they deserved more than a draw. DPMM FC now will focus on their next match ahead against Geylang International FC at Bedok Stadium this Friday. DPMM FC 1 (Roberto Alviz) Tampines Rovers 2 (Miljan Mrdakovic, Shahdan Sulaiman)

Clash of the titans tonight
It’s too early for clash of the title contenders match, right? This is an interesting scenario where defending champions Tampines Rovers will be fighting for all the points against another unbeaten side DPMM FC at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium tonight.
Both DPMM FC and Tampines Rovers have a perfect record with 3 wins out of three. However, DPMM FC enjoy a slight advantage due to a better goal difference and the host have yet to concede a goal in the S*League competition.
This also will be a match for DPMM FC to avenge for last season’s heavy defeat against Tampines with a 6-2 score line. Rodrigo Tosi was one of the players playing for DPMM FC back them and he shared how he wants to forget that memory of the huge loss last year. He’s currently happy with how things are going for DPMM FC and he gelled pretty well with the new import players. He hopes to score in the fourth successive game and more importantly the win for DPMM FC tonight.
“I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s game. It will be a great occasion and good test for DPMM FC against a more experienced side,” said Roy O’Donovan, DPMM FC’s marquee player. About scoring his first goals for DPMM FC, he already felt confident on his game and nothing has changed for him. He prioritizes the victory over scoring another goal.
The forward took some time to settle in DPMM FC and broke his scoring duck in the last game with two goals against Home United at Jalan Besar Stadium last week. He shared how they are a few teams that are title contenders including DPMM FC and the best thing for DPMM FC now is to stay focused.
“Experience is just as good as youth and speed. The match will be the clash of the two different styles and hopefully football is the winner,” was the response from O’Donovan when asked about the experience and the aging players of Tampines Rovers.
Training session yesterday for DPMM FC players
Steve Kean remains confident for tonight’s game
Will Rodrigo Tosi score for the fourth successive time?
DPMM FC’s coach Steve Kean doesn’t feel the pressure of facing defending champions Tampines Rovers. “No, football is about respect and you put the competition aside. We just need to keep trying on our own team’s abilities. We still have many steps that we can improved on. We are getting there. We are going on the right direction,” said Kean.
“We are actually competing against ourselves and get to the maximum, then obviously we have to play against our opposition and we can only get better. Last week (game) was better than previous game so we are really confident.”
In other news, DPMM FC management announced that there will be a lucky draw for the upcoming match on Sunday. The grand prizes are one return ticket to Jakarta for one and one return to Kuala Lumpur for one. The prizes are sponsored by Royal Brunei Airlines. This draw is only eligible for paying spectators ($5 and $8) and the winners will be announced on the scoreboard at half-time during the match between DPMM FC vs Tampines Rovers FC this Sunday. There will be other consolation prizes as well.
It’s happening tomorrow. Mark your dates.

Kathrine Hii, Manager of Hui Huang Enterprise withPg Waslimin PSJ Pg Hj Abd Momin, DPMM FC’s Club Manager
A new sponsor was unveiled for DPMM FC yesterday at Charcoal BBQ & Grill. You might familiar with the H-TWO-O isotonic drink as it’s the official sponsor for the S•League season. Now DPMM FC have signed a sponsorship agreement with YOU•C1000 as the said product will be official isotonic drink for DPMM FC.
The agreement of the sponsorship deal was signed between Pg Waslimin PSJ Pg Hj Abd Momin, DPMM FC’s Club Manager and Katherine Hii, Manager of Hui Huang Enterprise, the sole distributor of YOU•C1000.
The isotonic drink have a lot of benefits especially providing vitamin to your system. This is a perfect brand to partner with DPMM FC as it promotes a healthier life style. DPMM FC management team was very delighted with the sponsorship deal with Hui Huang Enterprise and this will also help to promote the branding of YOU•C1000 as a healthy isotonic drink.
YOU•C1000 will also be undergoing a study to choose an ambassador from DPMM FC squad to represent the face of YOU•C1000. The players will be shortlisted by the DPMM FC management and the principal of YOU•C1000 from the region will go through the profiles of the players and select an ambassador to be the face of YOU•C1000. More on that next time.
Hui Huang Enterprise will be sponsoring both the Lemon Water and Orange Water isotonic drink of YOU•C1000 (not the smaller bottles from the image). The bigger bottle are not gassy or fizzy like soft drinks and it contains 1,000 mg of Vitamin C. These drinks are better when served chilled.
As I was goggling about the product, did you know that a famous blogger Xiaxue also did a piece on YOU•C1000 back in 2010? The product has been around for 10 years but Brunei has only introduced this into the market 5 years ago. Another interesting ambassador for YOU•C1000 is Manchester United’s Rob Van Persie who was the face of YOU•C1000 last year.
My personal preference are the small bottles of YOU•C1000 which gives an adrenalin rush whenever I sip it. It’s concentrated with Vitamin C and also fizzy (the way I like) and tastes great too.

DPMM FC celebrating their goal against Home United last night at Jalan Besar Stadium. DPMM FC won 3-0 and maintain a perfect record in the S•League
DPMM FC had a comfortable half time lead with O’Donovan scoring in the 25th minute and Rodrigo Tosi in the 36th minute. DPMM FC had a few chances that they failed to convert. The Protectors also had scoring opportunities but their finishing failed to find the net. After the break, Tosi added the cushion lead to give a much comfortable lead and the win. After two away victories, the memories of last season was easily forgotten when DPMM FC finished 8th last season. DPMM FC were usually vulnerable away from home last season. It was more of different story now. They have scored four away goals and conceded none in two away matches and DPMM FC are also invincible at home.
Kean is definitely happy with the maximum 9 points and this will give more smiles to the DPMM FC management on the consecutive victories since the start of the season.
According to the interview by S•League, Kean were happy with his players but it is still a long journey ahead.
“When we don’t have possession of the ball, we worked very hard – not only the back four but the whole team,” he said after the match.
“There were periods in the game where after you score, you’re always a little bit open to conceding but we kept our concentration and worked our socks off the ball. It wasn’t the three goals but the clean sheet that pleased me most. I think they can [play better than what they did today] and we’ve evolved into a real good side but I still think there’s still more to come from us.”
I was a bit surprised that Home United failed to find the net, given that they have a high good scoring goal ratio. I believe that the fixtures that they are having might take a toll on them. Three days before, they had an AFCCup match against an Indonesian club and soon they are traveling to India for their next AFC Cup match.
DPMM FC’s next match will be on at Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium on Sunday 23rd March as they take on champions Tampines Rovers, the other undefeated team in the S•League. Pictures taken by Darren Ho from the S•League.
DPMM FC Roy O’Donovan finally opened his goal account with a brace. He even hit the woodwork earlier in the game. Good things to come for the former Sunderland player.
Lee Kwan Woo of Home United had chances but failed to score and thanks to the towering defence of Boris Raspudic and Shahrulrizal Abd Rahman of DPMM FC. They have protected the keeper on three occasions and kept a clean sheet in the process.
Left back Sairol Hj Sahari was magnificent outing and even clear the ball off the line. In this picture, Sirina Camara of Home United skipping a tackle by Sairol and he also had his shot saved by Wardun Yussof in goals

DPMM FC management and some of the players at the Brunei International Airport this morning
DPMM FC are wary of Home United as both are fighting for 3 full points. Home United lost their opening match against defending champions Tampines Rovers 1-0 but they have improved immensely with a 4-1 victory over Geylang International FC. The Singapore club also competed in the AFC against Persipura 1-1 last Tuesday.
DPMM FC, on the other hand, have two victories out of two games so far with a perfect record and yet to concede a goal in the S•League. However, Steve Kean, DPMM FC head coach, is wary of the the Protectors but the Scotsman is gunning for all three points tomorrow evening at Jalan Besar Stadium, Singapore.
“Yes, we all going for three points and we have not set to go for a draw. We have to be positive and the attacking players that we have (Rodrigo, Donovan, Gamble) and we have Bobby who wants to go in the box. So we are very offensive. The other good thing is we have a stable unit at the back and solid behind the ball, “ said Steve Kean.
“Home United is a strong team and they scored 4 goals in the last game. They are gonna be a bit tough. But the way we play, we are gonna be tough for them too. So we all can go and get three points. Home United also have a few injuries so it might be difficult to field their strongest team.”
When asked about the first line up, he hinted that he’s gonna field the same players and hope to gain all three points.
DPMM FC just flew off to Singapore this morning and they will be training later this afternoon at Jalan Besar Stadium. Their next competitive match will be tomorrow evening Thursday 14th March 2014 at 7:30pm kick off. For your info, the match will have a live telecast on RTB 2 for DPMM FC fans.
