The much anticipated gaming machine line, Predator, from Acer was officially launched at the Brilliance Hall of Concepts Computer last night. Present during the launch were Vincent Pao, the General Manager of Concepts Computer, Alice Chan, Financial Controller of Concepts Group of Companies, Pao Jia Wan, Business Development Executive of Concepts Group of Companies and Richard Soo, Acer Branch Manager of Acer Sales & Service, Miri.

So much to blog about the Acer Predator. I was already amazed when I saw the brochures a few weeks ago and last night, the Acer Predator line was launched to the media.

Definitely those into gaming and using heavy duty softwares, Acer Predator will tailor to your needs and satisfaction. The computers are also Windows 10 ready for end users.

Vincent Pao has a vision for his company, to bring the best IT products to the country especially from the Acer brand and he has kept his promise. He hopes the end users will be impressed with the Acer Predator as it will give “out-of-this-world” gaming experience to gamers. He applauded the team behind Acer Predator, the Predator Tribe, especially the Research and Development team in turning the machines into the best in its class.

Do check out the 15” and 17” laptops, sporting the bespoke design of red accents and a black chassis with geometric lines and soft texture coating. Let’s not forget the monitors they offer. The monitors are such as the Acer Predator Z35 (35” inch curve), Acer Predator Z34 (34” inch curve) and Acer Predator XB1 monitor (27” inch flat). I’m already impressed with the curved monitors because it will give you a panoramic view while you play your games or for me, watching movies 😀 The curved monitors sport futuristic aluminium based design with underflow lighting and mate finish look killer.

Now let’s talk about the desktops. Totally superb when I just looked at the specs. The Predator G6 is simply a monster of its own and it’s labeled as the Unstoppable War Machine. The snapbacks are gone. During the first day launch of the @thecapcity NEW ERA STAR WARS™ limited edition collection last Saturday, many showed up and chose their favourite caps and some even bought in numbers as collections. With the huge hype of Star Wars movie releasing next week, the Star Wars fever has arrived and this shows how much impact the brand has in the community.

According to the franchise owner Soon Wing, over half the stock are gone after two days of release. I bought my Darth Vader version and I’m happy with my purchase.

All the finals were played in the final two days of the 52nd ITF Junior Circuit Group 5 which took place at the Brunei National Tennis Centre. The Koreans blew away their chances to sweep all the trophies in the singles and doubles. Only the top seeded player from South Korea Jeong Yeongseok clinched one title in the boys’ draw where he beat his compatriot Hong Seung Heon (6th seed) in one sided final 6-0 6-0.

In the girls’ finals, Chinese-Taipei’s Shih Hsin-Yuan overpowered another Korean finalist Gwak Mi Ryung 6-3 6-1. It must be a gruelling affair for Gwak as she had to endure hours of tennis, being involved in both doubles and single matches. She also had another runner-ups trophy in doubles losing in straight sets the Japanese duo of Hiyori Ito and Funa Koazaki 6-3 7-6.

The boy’s doubles event also produced some great tennis but it was the Japanese duo that prevailed and held their serve through the match. James Kent Trotter and Shinji Hazawa erased their miseries in singles (quarter-final and semi-final respectively) and overcame the Koreans, Jeong Yeongseok and Hong Seung Heon 6-4 6-4.

It was such a wonderful display of tennis last week and it shows that Brunei is far away from the standards set by the regional contestants. I could see that our young players have the desire and will power to learn and they have the fundamentals of being on the courts with the guidance of the self-employed tennis coach Aiman Abdullah who has dedicated his time and efforts to the students.

I’m an avid player myself and regularly join Aiman’s tennis session from time to time. Thank you for your contribution and I hope for the bright future of tennis in the Sultanate. Keep up the great work!

16 years have gone by so fast. And yes, this is slightly late post for my blog. Concepts Computer Sdn Bhd celebrated their 16th year anniversary two weeks ago and it was held at the Brilliance Hall at Concepts Computer premise.

There was a welcoming remark Vincent Pao, General Manager of Concepts Computer and he was ecstatic with the company’s achievement in the past few months. Perhaps the biggest milestone for the company was the official appointment as the first local distributor for Microsoft for SMB and Consumer Sector. They have also achieved great success for Acer (Top Achiever Award), Epson (High Achiever Award for Retail Business Development) and Concepts was also appointed the authorised Service Provider for Brother International Products.

The company also feted long serving staffs who have worked for a very long time in the organisation. There are Dk Amallizawati for her 8 years of service; Zul Abdul Rahman for his 10 years; Azoani and Misinah for 13 years; Azalinah for 14 years; Ani Suryani for 15 years and lastly, Sumarddy Eddy for 16 years.

The media was also invited to celebrate the occasion and Vincent also dedicated a special lucky draw for the members of the media. The night was full of celebrations with performances, lucky draw and mini games as part of their entertainment.

One word: Impressive. Congratulations to Dilys Chai and Denise Chai on the opening of your new cafe, Rack & Brew. Love the deco, love the atmosphere and most of all, love the food too. The cakes are amazing too – my personal favourite is the Red Velvet Cake.

The cafe is located above Paddington House of Pancake (Gadong) and the area used to be a boutique store (Deseo) and now the boutique store is located on the 2nd floor, just above Rack & Brew. You can follow @rackandbrew on instagram for updates.

According to Borneo Bulletin, Dilys Chai revealed that Rack & Brew was part of her dissertation project back in the UK. Dilys had some sampling of her desserts at Hua Ho Manggis Mall and the responses were pretty good.

Rack & Brew operates from 11am to 10pm daily at Abdul Razak Complex in Gadong. I’m definitely dining there next time.

Acer has launched two models of portable projectors yesterday to meet their needs: Acer C205 and Acer C120 and now it’s available at Concepts Computer. My current trip to Bangkok is to help expose and share with you guys of places to shop around Bangkok. Have you heard of Emporium and Emquatier? There are both new shopping malls under one roof, The District EM and shared among three buildings. The shopping experience is crazy there because there are more the 400 iconic brands at District EM. I was even confused with my bearings as I easily lost track of my directions. You might need an in-house map to get to wonder around.

Of course, if you happen to be in Bangkok, now it’s a good time to give these places because of the mid year sales. If you are familiar with Siam Paragon and Terminal 21, I would highly recommend you to try out the EM District. It’s even located at a BTS station (train) so you won’t have to walk from the station to District EM.

Even though the said malls have been operating for a few months, they have spent a hefty sum on promotion and marketing, a whooping USD 500,000 alone. You can see how serious the shareholders of District EM are. Give it a few more months and exposure, Emporium and Emquartier will be the top attraction for the shopping crowd especially from overseas.

A well deserved victory for ITB. Two years ago, they lost the inaugural tournament in the hands of UBD. This year, they almost lost it when they were down 2-0 against IGS College in the finals last Saturday of the BIBD At-tamwil University Cup 2015.

All was not lost. Md Farrizz Saralfari and Ak Md Naqib scored two goals to put IGS College in the lead only for ITB to reply with confidence through Md Hafiy and Norfaez before half time kicked in to make a competitive score line of 2-2 by half time.

I actually felt pity for IGS College as they had the upper hand. A 2 goal lead with a poor field conditions due to the rainy weather, IGS could have held the game for their first title. However, ITB had other plans. They know that they have been in the finals before and experience did matter in this situation.

Right after the break, ITB quickly took the lead in the 47th minute from Ak Md Haikal which proved to be the winner. The match ended in a 3-2 victory for ITB and they have what it takes to be a champion. Hats off to IGS College for the great fight and let it be a good experience for them and also for the rest of the teams that were involved in the tournament.

The matches have always brought high energy towards the stands where fans will be supporting their own team. Even the crowd attendance can put other local leagues to shame. Great effort from BIBD At-tamwil for taking the lead and teaming up with ITB as co-organiser.

This year also see inclusion of local colleges and an invitational team representing Curtin University. A big thanks for Fazizul Haqimie for taking all the pictures since Day 1 and he was even soaked in the rain that night. Great photos and keep it up!

The confine room at Times Square

The Kidnapped Room

Times Square Shopping Centre is conducting its first Room Confinement game daily from 12noon to 9pm this month. The game introduces an interactive gaming experience into Brunei, where the right measure of wit, persistence and teamwork will win the game. The Room Confinement is located in Times Square Shopping Centre, between Guardian and Jollibee, and is a collaboration with YYSL.

Customers will be confined in a room, where they would have to find a series of codes and puzzles that must be solved within 45 minute, in order to find the combination codes and answer the puzzles.

There are two rooms available with different themes; “Kidnapped” and “Missing Girl”. Each theme has a unique story element to the game, and what sets Room Confinement apart from their counterparts is that customers are being challenged and pressured to solve the puzzle within the time limit. Each room may accommodate two to six participants at a time. The game has attracted more than 100 participants and only a few managed to solve the mystery. It may look easy but you need to be very alert and focused.

Customers would need to book their slots to participate, though tickets are available for purchases at the counter; interested participant may call us at 8995720.

The 20th Baiduri Masters concluded with a prize presentation at the Indah Hall, Royal Brunei Recreation Club and was attended by Dr Yg Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Fattaah Ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Perdana Wazir Sahibul Himmah Wal-Waqar Pengiran Muda Mohamed Bolkiah, a member of the Board of Directors at Baiduri Bank.

In his welcoming address, Mr. Pierre Imhof, CEO at Baiduri Bank said,” The aim has always been centred towards supporting our community and making a difference, whether big or small, and this year is no different.” He further elaborated that Baiduri Bank has always strived to raise funds for local charity organisations, particularly the charities that cater towards individuals with special needs with the hope to alleviate their burden.

$80,000 was raised from the gold tournament proceeds, going to the Learning Ladders Society, the Child Development Centre, YASKA, Pusat Ehsan Al-Almeerah Al-Hajjah Maryam and SMARTER.

This year’s competition turned out to be a rather memorable one, as there were many landmark moments; three hole-in-ones and the second time a player had won the Baiduri Masters back to back. Seruji Haji Setia claimed the Challenge Trophy for a second year in a row, earning the coveted Green jacket, and $850 in cash. He beat his previous year’s score of 70 by one to pip the win.

The big winners of the night were the players who got the hole in one. Kahar Hj Abu Bakar was the first winner of the $20,000 cash prize since it was introduced in 2011. But the room burst into loud cheers with the presentation of the mock key of the Porsche Panamera to Ahmad Izzat bin Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd Zaimi and Ahanapoah Hj Mohd Noor. The Baiduri Masters was supported by QAF Auto Sdn Bhd, QAF Eurokars Sdn Bhd, QAF Brunei, Brunei Press Sdn Bhd and RBA Golf Club Sdn Bhd.
