I lost track already on how many versions have been released by Acer on their Iconia Tab. This time, this is the Acer Iconia Tab 8W which is ideal for business and pleasure. There was a welcoming remarks by Dato Paduka Hj Danial bin Hj Hanafiah, Executive Director of DâSunlit Sdn Bhd.
The Minister led the tour around the Consumer Fair which consists over 400 booths. The CF is like a one-stop centre for goods and services. There are also great participation from other countries such as Cambodia, Taipei, India, the Philippines, Singapore and the UAE, showcasing their items.
There are other activities as well – Kingston ice cream eating competition, Dairy Queen Hot Dog eating competition and Malar Setia pratta eating competition.
There will be a blood donation drive organised by the Mobile Blood Bank of the RIPAS it will be held on 31st January from 10-12pm and 2pm to 4pm.

Aspire Switch 12. Something to tickle your fancy. This will give Microssoft Surface Pro 3 a run for their money. This is what we call a hybrid model where it can have multipurpose functions as a notebook, a tablet, a tent, a display or even a desktop by using the keyboard wirelessly. Awesome, innit?
The latest model just arrived at Concepts Computer and it was demoed last weekend by Richard Soo, Acer Branch Manager at Miri. Acer will always come up with a better, sharper and powerful device in its category and the Switch 12 is definitely better than the Switch 10 and Switch 11.
It sports a 12.5 inch Gorilla Glass screen with a full HD resolution 1920 x 1080. As usual, the notebook has a detachable magnetic keyboard but the great thing about the Switch 12 is that even you detach the keyboard, the screen turns into a desktop with a rear kickstand. Awesome!! This is definitely ideal for travelers.
The Switch 12 is powered by Intelâs new Core M processor, which complements the notebookâs fanless design by reducing power consumption. Input-wise, the laptop packs microUSB 3.0 and microHDMI ports.
The Aspire Switch 12 comes with a 128 GB Solid State Drive (SSD) and has an internal memory of $GB. Itâs quite a light weight device (only 1.4kg). Despite itâs compact feature, this model has multiple ports – USB 3.0, USB 2.0 port, HDMI port and Micro SD Card reader. The battery life expectancy is roughly up to 8 hours (depending on usage).
If you buy at Concepts Computer, you will be given an Acer Active Stylus and an Acer designed sleeve bag. The purchase also includes a one year warranty even for travelers.
If you are not convinced enough by this new model, you can look for the Aspire R13 which has a more solid appeal whereas the Aspire Switch is more into portability and mobility.

Acer Aspire R13. There are so many things to brag about the Acer Aspire R13. If I was given the choice, I would have pick this model instead because itâs more solid appeal and itâs quiet convenient as well. Did you know that the Aspire R13 was awarded the best of IFA 2014 in the Best Hybrid category by Laptop Magazine and it recently also won the Good Design Awards in Japan.
The size of the notebook is 13.3â and it weighs at 1.5 kg. The cool part about the notebook is that the screen can rotate 180 degrees and it can turn into tablet. This notebook has a convertible element indeed and yet it is stable. It can even put into an easel position. The Acer Aspire R13 has a high spec and it feels like a premium notebook.

The Ministry of Health and Fitness Zone will continue their partnership in promoting healthy lifestyle in Brunei, following the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement on Healthy Lifestyle and Physical Activities Programme yesterday.
The collaboration is to boost the effectiveness of the ministryâs Healthy Lifestyle Clinic Programme, aiming to combat obesity in the country. Under the new one-year agreement, which was first began in 2011, Fitness Zone will, among others, provide professional fitness instructions on nutrition and the right workout activities for participants of the clinicâs weight-loss programme.
Present to witness the signing ceremony at the Fitness Zoneâs Kiulap branch was Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health Datin Paduka Dr Hjh Norlila Dato Paduka Hj Abd Jalil.
She lauded the collaboration that had been done with Fitness Zone. âThe programme was successful, we want to continue it,â she said, adding that there were matters that the ministry could not provide alone. Giving example, she said, Fitness Zone provides fitness facilities that can help the ministry in carrying out its healthy lifestyle programme such as obesity control and weight-loss programme.
Fitness Zoneâs Managing Director Wu Chun expressed hope that people who participate in the Healthy Lifestyle Clinic Programme could influence their family members and friends by letting them know of the benefits of living healthily. âWith this, hopefully we can achieve our aim to reduce the healthcare costs in the country,â he said, adding that number of diabetes and obesity in the country can also be reduced. Now notebooks have become comparatively cheaper than before. I remember forking out at least BND 2,000 in the past decade with not-so-fast specs. “HAPPY” BREAST CANCER AWARENESS CAMPAIGN 2014 ( BRUNEI)
The Health Promotion Centre, Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Brunei Cancer Centre (TBCC) and Laneige Brunei Darussalam is conducting a Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign from 15th – 19th October in conjunction with the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is celebrated yearly in October.
The event was launched at the Atrium, The Mall, Gadong with the theme âYour Health is in Your Handsâ. The objective of this campaign is to raise continuous awareness of breast cancer and its prevention to the community, in particular amongst young women in the working age group in Brunei Darussalam.
The event was graced by Dr Hajah Rahmah binti Haji Md Said, Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health. The chairperson of the event, Head of the Health Promotion Centre, Dr Hjh Norhayati Hj Md Kassim, said that this yearâs theme reminded women to be aware of the risks of breast cancer risk and to conduct regular self-examinations, in addition to adopting a healthy lifestyle.
The campaign will run until October 19 with several activities such as a health check, an exhibition on breast cancer and related information, breast eelf-examination (BSE), general health screening sessions, fitness demonstrations and a healthy snack competition, among others.
Breast cancer campaign T-shirts are also available for sale. The proceeds will be donated to the Global Health Research Cluster, Universiti Brunei Darussalam to facilitate studies related to breast cancer planned by the institution.

The event also saw prizes awarded to three schools that participated in the âPromotion of Breast Cancer Preventionâ video contest.
The first prize went to Sayyidina Husain Secondary School followed by the Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College (Maktab Sains) and the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Saâadatul Bolkiah (PAP Rashidah) Secondary School in Lumut.
The competition, organised with the Department of Schools, Ministry of Education, was open to Year 9 and Year 10 students from seven secondary schools in the country.
It aimed to increase awareness and bring out the creativity of the students in showing their support for the prevention of breast cancer.
The event was supported by the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Saâadatul Bolkiah (PAPRSB) Institute of Health Science, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) Fitness Centre, AEWON Garment Sdn Bhd and ADN MMA Fitness and volunteers.

On Saturday October 18, 2014 and Sunday October 19, 2014 athletes from Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, China and Indonesia will gather at the Multipurpose Hall of the National Stadium for Battle Royale, hosted by GETFIT CrossFit.
Bruneiâs first CrossFit affiliate, GETFIT CrossFit, will be hosting 80 athletes from over 10 CrossFit affiliates at Battle Royale 2014. Battle Royale is GETFIT CrossFit’s annual competition based on CrossFit movements. Much like the CrossFit Asia Regionals, their aim is to provide a platform for local crossfitters, athletes and fitness enthusiasts to challenge and test themselves through competition. The competition will start at 8:00am until 5:00pm on both days.
GETFIT CrossFit are also extremely proud to introduce the new logo for Battle Royale. The logo consists of two ancient weapons; a âKelasakâ and two âKampilanâ. âThese weapons are proudly held by officers of the Royal Regalia of our beloved Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. Both are symbols of perfection of our countryâs customs and tradition which date back to before the 7th century. Taken from feed news of The Brunei Times: Ukraine said passenger plane carrying 295 people was shot down on Thursday as it flew over the country, and both the government and the pro-Russia separatists fighting in the region denied any responsibility for downing the plane.
As plumes of black smoke rose up near a rebel-held village of Grabovo in eastern Ukraine, an Associated Press journalist counted at least 22 bodies at the crash site 40 km (25 miles) from the Russian border.
The plane appeared to have broken up before impact and the burning wreckage â including body parts and the belongings of passengers â was scattered over a wide area.
Malaysia Airlines tweeted that it lost contact with one of its flights carrying 280 passengers and 15 crew as it was traveling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur over Ukrainian airspace, but did not yet confirm the crash.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko called the downing an act of terrorism and called for an international investigation into the crash.
The Donetsk region government said a plane crashed Thursday near a village called Grabovo, which it said is currently under the control of the separatists. The region where the flight was lost has seen severe fighting between the two sides in recent days.
Anton Gerashenko, an adviser to Ukraineâs interior minister, said on his Facebook page the plane was flying at an altitude of 10,000 metres (33,000 feet). He said it was hit by a missile fired from a Buk launcher, which can fire missiles up to an altitude of 22,000 meters (72,000 feet).
The Malaysia Airlines plane is a Boeing 777-200ER, which was delivered to Malaysia Airlines on July 30, 1997, according to Flightglobalâs Ascend Online Fleets, which sells and tracks information about aircraft. It has more than 43,000 hours of flight time and 6,950 takeoffs and landings.
Poroshenko said his countryâs armed forces didnât shoot at any airborne targets.
âWe do not exclude that this plane was shot down, and we stress that the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not take action against any airborne targets,â he said. âWe are sure that those who are guilty in this tragedy will be held responsible.â
Separatist leader Andrei Purgin told The Associated Press that he was certain that Ukrainian troops had shot the plane down but gave no explanation or proof for his statement.
Purgin said he did not know whether rebel forces owned Buk missile launchers, but said even if they did, there had no fighters capable of operating it.
My Say: Firstly, my deepest condolences to the family and friends who are related to the passengers of MH17 of Malaysia Airlines. This is indeed another tragedy and news that I really didnât want to hear. I hope there will be a definite conclusion to the ongoing investigation. There are so many speculations after the crash of MH17. Iâm just sadden by the whole ordeal and I do hope the relevant authorities to get to the bottom of this.
Yes, this has been a bad year for Malaysia Airlines and it was reported that the shares have fallen 35% this year and perhaps Malaysia Airlines was still reeling from the impact of the flight MH370âs March disappearance. The shares have dropped down by 11% just today which is already a bad indication. It will take a milestone to bring back where Malaysia Airlines was. I believe Malaysia Airlines can get out of the deep hole and it will lead a great leadership to get pass the loss and the pain before it can bring back the confidence and trust from the public.

Perhaps the highlight earlier this year was when the management were conducting trials for the Brunei U-21 team back in January as they were preparing for the supposedly tournament earlier in April 2014. The plan didnât materialised in terms of hosting the event in April and it was postponed till further notice. However, this is still great news because this will give ample time for Brunei to prepare for the HBT tournament. They were already many question marks as why the trials were only planned three months before the actual tournament then as itâs never easy to gel new players in the time span given. Iâm not pretty sure how the preparations have been since beginning of the year but Iâm sure that manager Hj Feisal Hj Eusoff and coach Kwon Oh-Son have sorted this out.
Last weekend was the draw for the Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy 2014 and Brunei is now placed in Group B with the likes of Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam. In Group A are Timor-Leste, Laos, the Philippines, Myanmar and Thailand. The only one missing here is Indonesia as they wonât be able to compete due to the clashes with the ongoing Indonesian football league.
Well, I still find that a bit odd since Indonesia has a population of 200 million and yet they canât field a squad of 24 to represent Indonesia U-21. I kinda find that reason to be ⌠ah, no comment. For your info, Indonesia was runner-up in the previous tournament and it was a very heated match, not for the players on the field but for the supporters out there as there were commotions happening prior to the match and during the match. Sometimes when you are too passionate about your country and the ego get the better of you, things are easier to escalate to an uglier scene.
As for a vote of uncertainty, team manager Hj Feisal Hj Eusoff shared that Brunei is not ready for next monthâs 5th Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy as he said they are far from being prepared for the August 9-23 regional Under-21 tournament. He said that the playersâ are not at the level they should be and further more, they havenât selected their first eleven, let alone choosing the final 18 squad.
I believe there is still hope for Brunei. They did it two years ago with great difficulty and yet they prevail. Brunei is the defending champion and I believe they can excel to greater heights.
The manager conveyed his thanks to DPMM FC for allowing to use some of their players – Adi Said, Najib and Hendra and also thanked National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) for their never ending support and also to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
I shall update you the progress of the Brunei U-21 team. For now, good luck for the preparations.

Christian Dior’s couture show in Paris on Monday was the fashion equivalent of a concept album.The show was held at MusĂŠe Rodin’s gardens in a circular tent decorated with thousands of white orchids and displayed the latest confections by Belgian designer Raf Simons.
Extended over six segments, models dressed in everything from full-skirted ballgowns to full-length fur coats, chiffon slips and embroidered parachute silk boilersuits walked around a circular white room wrapped in chrome and covered â floor to ceiling â in white orchids. It even had a soundtrack of alpha experimentalists Sonic Youth.
This year, Wu Chun was invited to experience the Fashion week in Paris where he had the chance to sit in the front row with some of the top celebrities such as Jennifer Lawrence who fame has shot up during the last few years with her blockbuster hit, The Hunger game. Wu Chun was also joined by the Harry Potter female lead actress, Emma Watson,Charlize Theron and Sean Penn at the Christian Dior Fashion Show. Put together, it was a dizzying expression of creative director Raf Simons’ vision for this revered Parisian house: futuristic, red carpet friendly and art-house all at once.
In the show notes, Simons said the Dior collection was about bringing “the attitude of contemporary reality to something very historical” and finding something modern as the result. This concept collection â assured, new but rich with varied reference â suggests he might have done just that.
The Simons effect at Dior sent couture sales soaring by 14% to ÂŁ601m in the last six months of 2013. This, in turn, has boosted the ready-to-wear side of the business. Asia and the US are emerging as the markets where Dior does particularly well. Monday’s couture outing will only boost a house on the up.
According to Wu Chun,” The things that excite me this time is i am attending the Haute Couture collection fashion shows which is very much difference from the Ready-to-wear collection. Couture collection are all the limited edition pieces and i was amazed by all the creativities and workmanship of the highest level in the world of fashion.Of course, being alongside all the hollywood A-lists was a blast experience for me as well.”

Last year,there were three representatives. This year, Brunei are sending 9 participants and this shows that Bruneians have what it takes with their talents. Yesterday nine of them took off for the United States to represent Brunei in the World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA). In other words, itâs the official âTalent Olympicsâ and itâs a good avenue to aspire more talents. This is a great opportunity for the participants to be exposed to the real competition and also compete against other performers around the world.
Last year, Fakhrul Razi made to the finals of WCOPA 2013 and bagged a few gold medals while Kevin Lo earned scholarships from the acting academy and notching a few gold medals whereas Maria Grace Koh earned silver medals from last yearâs awards. The only one returning back to Hollywood is Maria while the rest are new to the competition.
Jeffrey Cadayong of Prismworks Event Management is confident that Brunei will bring in more medals and also earn more gold medals. The Brunei candidates have been working very hard and they had their final rehearsal at Expression Music before taking off for their adventure to Hollywood. I saw bits of pieces of Ruby Chongâs performance and I was super amazed already by this lady talent and I have seen her sing in public events.
Both sisters Eden Chiam and Shian Li Chiam are also selected for the USA trip who will performing vocal and instrument respectively in the junior category. They are the youngest of the lot. Elizabeth Sim and Joanna Kwan will be representing Brunei in the senior acting category. As for the senior vocal category, former champion of P2F Hidayat Hj Ahim, Ruby Chong, Bridget Ang and Md Adi Farhan will represent the country.
Will any of them reach the finals of the WCOPA like Fakhrul Razi did? I do have faith in them and they will make more waves this time round. Last year, Brunei won the âSpirit Awardâ and also the winning viral photo which happened to be my photo on social media.

I only dropped by last Saturday just to check out the âRevelation of Muslim Clothingâ exhibition. I believe it was a great success and it was great to see big names from Malaysia showcasing their products to the Brunei market and yes, there is such a demand for these products that they offer. The exhibition also had special talks on Aurat and Muslim clothing with the title âAurat oh Aurat, I Cover Up for Allah SWTâ. You will be surprised that there are many things we assume that what covering Aurat is and there are many things to learn about Aurat itself.
The Revelation of Muslim Clothing event also comprises of an area for âUsed & Wearable Clothingâ as well as Hijabs, Baju Kurungs, Baju Melayu, Jubah, shoes, shirts and pants which is free of charge for the public, as well as 100 over Ramadhan goodies.
One of the names that caught my eye was Miss Nina whom I made acquaintance during her days in Teh Tarik Crew and they did perform once in Brunei Darussalam. I doubt she remembered me *lol* and now sheâs doing quite well with her fashion label Mizz Demeanor and Madeena Clothing (a Muslimah fashion label). Another famous designer from Malaysia is Calvin Thoo who was recently in Brunei as well for the showcase.
