Acer has launched two models of portable projectors yesterday to meet their needs: Acer C205 and Acer C120 and now it’s available at Concepts Computer. Imagine if you want to do a presentation and this will come in handy rather than carry a normal size projector. Especially in a small meeting room.
The prices are quite reasonable – the Acer C205 and Acer C120 with introductory prices of $438 and $338 respectively. Quite affordable, right?

Baiduri Capital located at Block A, Kiarong Complex
Baiduri Captial opened its doors to the public on last week, and allowing Bruneians to trade stocks personally online in three major stocks exchanges. Located at Unit 9, Block A, Kiarong Complex, the company was set up with the objective to provide customers a wide range of investment products as well as securities trading services.
Baiduri Capital offers its customers opportunities to invest in international stock markets via its innovative online portal, the first in the Brunei Market to offer online securities trading at www.baiduri.com.bn/baiduricapital
Opening a trading is made simple with the online registration form, and prior to trading customers need to do a Risk Profile Assessment to ensure that their risk profile is suitable for securities trading. The three stock exchanges available to customers are Singapore Exchange (SGX), the Hong Kong Exchange (HKeX) and Bursa Malaysia, with other markets to be added in the future, including the US Stock Market.
At the Baiduri Capital premises, trading booths are available and equipped with tablets for customers to trade. An in-house financial planner,and qualified and registered dealers will be onsite to provide investment guidance and assist with trades if required.

T.C.Y. Yes, for those who follow me on instagram would be aware that I’m currently flying abroad but of course, I’m still connected to the world wide web and yes, I will be updating my site regularly when I have the time. Funnily enough I’m more active in posting my work online rather than when I’m back at home. Weird but true.
To recap my travel log, I was in Singapore for a night (for some coverage and catching up with friends) and it was kinda of a miscommunication as I thought my mom and family would still be in Singapore then. Apparently they came back two days before I flew to Singapore *lol* So below are the pictures taken during my one day trip to Singapore before I flew off to Ipoh to meet up with my other buddies around the world.

AITI hosts 12 companies to Singapore for the CommunicAsia 2015. This was also taken last Monday as they depart together with some of the SEA Games delegates. It was a full flight indeed.

I was rushing to the OCBC Arena near the Stadium MRT to catch the match between Brunei and Myanmar in the netball competition. I managed to catch the final 5 minutes of the match where Brunei won 😀
Top notch security in Singapore’s SEA Games. You can see how much they spent in heightening the security. This could be a reason why Brunei pull out because of all these measures that will be taken into consideration for the safety of the public.

The confine room at Times Square
The Kidnapped Room
Times Square Shopping Centre is conducting its first Room Confinement game daily from 12noon to 9pm this month. The game introduces an interactive gaming experience into Brunei, where the right measure of wit, persistence and teamwork will win the game. The Room Confinement is located in Times Square Shopping Centre, between Guardian and Jollibee, and is a collaboration with YYSL.
Customers will be confined in a room, where they would have to find a series of codes and puzzles that must be solved within 45 minute, in order to find the combination codes and answer the puzzles.
There are two rooms available with different themes; “Kidnapped” and “Missing Girl”. Each theme has a unique story element to the game, and what sets Room Confinement apart from their counterparts is that customers are being challenged and pressured to solve the puzzle within the time limit. Each room may accommodate two to six participants at a time. The game has attracted more than 100 participants and only a few managed to solve the mystery. It may look easy but you need to be very alert and focused.
Customers would need to book their slots to participate, though tickets are available for purchases at the counter; interested participant may call us at 8995720.
Times Square is also glad to announce that there will be upcoming events in May such as Times Square Lucky Draw and Mid-Year Exhibition. The 20th Baiduri Masters concluded with a prize presentation at the Indah Hall, Royal Brunei Recreation Club and was attended by Dr Yg Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Fattaah Ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Perdana Wazir Sahibul Himmah Wal-Waqar Pengiran Muda Mohamed Bolkiah, a member of the Board of Directors at Baiduri Bank.
In his welcoming address, Mr. Pierre Imhof, CEO at Baiduri Bank said,” The aim has always been centred towards supporting our community and making a difference, whether big or small, and this year is no different.” He further elaborated that Baiduri Bank has always strived to raise funds for local charity organisations, particularly the charities that cater towards individuals with special needs with the hope to alleviate their burden.
$80,000 was raised from the gold tournament proceeds, going to the Learning Ladders Society, the Child Development Centre, YASKA, Pusat Ehsan Al-Almeerah Al-Hajjah Maryam and SMARTER.
This year’s competition turned out to be a rather memorable one, as there were many landmark moments; three hole-in-ones and the second time a player had won the Baiduri Masters back to back. Seruji Haji Setia claimed the Challenge Trophy for a second year in a row, earning the coveted Green jacket, and $850 in cash. He beat his previous year’s score of 70 by one to pip the win.
The big winners of the night were the players who got the hole in one. Kahar Hj Abu Bakar was the first winner of the $20,000 cash prize since it was introduced in 2011. But the room burst into loud cheers with the presentation of the mock key of the Porsche Panamera to Ahmad Izzat bin Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd Zaimi and Ahanapoah Hj Mohd Noor. The Baiduri Masters was supported by QAF Auto Sdn Bhd, QAF Eurokars Sdn Bhd, QAF Brunei, Brunei Press Sdn Bhd and RBA Golf Club Sdn Bhd.

Seruji Haji Setia leads the 20th Baiduri Masters after the first weekend of play and looks in firm contention to defend his title at the RBA Golf Club. The Baiduri Masters will continue this weekend from May 8-10. The biggest mover of the tournament was Haji Shahminan Damit whose excellent round of 69 skyrocketed him to second from the final top 12 in the leaderboard.
Khairol Bakar dropped to third with a gross score of 73 with 2010 runners-up Tony Haji Karim in fourth on count back. Lai Suan Loong also slipped to fifth after managing a high of third place on Saturday. In the ladies rankings, the highly respected Almas Syadzwanie Kamis led the way in first place with a score of 70.
Patricia Danielle Bayina and Siti Zabaidah trail further behind with a score of 75. Dora Madai sits in fourth with 76 with Mary Hiew (82) and Nurzana Suhaili (102) completing the top six.
Vanessa Boumba Marie-Alice carded a round of 69 to set the pace in the junior division rankings as the first weekend came to a close.
In the team division, Sweet Lip Emperor recorded a score of 211, four strokes ahead of Petir A.

BIBD caught my attention once again. I know I was slightly side tracked by the the actual BIBD Home Showcase but let me first talk about the BIBD Virtual MasterCard which is so convenient for many of use who use transactions online. A press conference was hold by BIBD At-Tamwil and Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) to announce the second inter-university football tournament at BIBD At-Tamwil lecture room in Gadong last weekend. It’s good to know the tournament is back because it was such a big hit with great attendance (even better than the local league organised by NFABD). The last tournament was two years ago where UBD was crowned the champions.
Now there will be more interesting as there will be 10 universities and higher learning institutions such as ITB, University Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (Unissa), the Seri Begawan Religious Teaching College University (KUPUSB), Politeknik Brunei, Cosmopolitan College of Commerce & Technology, International Graduate Studies (IGS) College, Micronet International College, Laksamana College of Business (LCB) and also an invitation to Curtin University from Miri, Sarawak.
The second BIBD At-Tamwil University Cup is supported by Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth Culture and Sports and Ministry of Home Affairs and sanctioned by National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD). Present during the press conference and the draw was Irwan Bin Lamit, Managing Director of BIBD At-Tamwil Berhad.
The tournament and the opening ceremony will kick off on 17th of May at Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium and the tournament will run until 13th of June. Expect the other matches to be played at Berakas Sports Complex and Royal Brunei Recreation Club (RBRC) football field.
Members of the public are invited to watch the event as entrance is free and stand a chance to win amazing prizes throughout the match. With just less than a week to the start of the Baiduri Masters Golf Tournament, the organisers have indicated that the 20th edition is going to be special to golfers. The first 300 golfers who sign up and pay to play on the first weekend from 1st to 3rd May 2015 will receive exclusive golf memorabilia. The organisers are also planning to stage an exciting tournament for this 20th edition with the introduction of the team event.
The rules of the team event are simple and straightforward. The team event is open to all amateur golfers in a team of four. Team members can play at separate times and may enter as many times as possible to improve their chances of winning with the best 3 scores counting towards the tournament. More details can be obtained from the RBA Golf Club notice board on such things as hole-in-one, novelty prizes during play as a team.
The team event fee is B$120 with an additional B$25 per player and teams will enjoy a 10% discount on the registration fee of B$120 on their second and subsequent rounds.
As in previous years, the Baiduri Masters will be held over two weekends at the RBA Golf Club, Berakas and played on format System 36 (Stroke Play) and the challenge trophy will be decided on gross. The Baiduri Masters tournament is divided into 4 divisions – Men’s, Group, Ladies and Junior. The Men’s division will be further divided into Men’s Gross, Men’s Nett and Senior Golfers Nett.

Launching the food festival was the Minister of Home Affairs, Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awang Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Awang Othman as the guest of honour.
Also present was the Deputy Minister of Finance, Dato Paduka Hj Bahrin Abdullah, the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Dato Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awang Halbi Hj Md Yussof, the Singapore High Commissioner to Brunei, Jaya Ratnam and Deputy Permanent Secretary (Investment) of Ministry of Finance Hj Abu Bakar Hj Ibrahim as his capacity as the Acting RBC Chairman.
In his opening remarks, RBC’s Acting General Manager, Pg Hj Abd Rahman Pg Hj Mat Salleh said that the festival has always received an overwhelming response from the public and that it is a great achievement for RBC.
Available daily during the period until May 5, the festival promises to deliver delicious authentic Singaporean cuisine and hawker classics such as Singapore Rojak Buah, Old Bibik’s Beef Rendang, Singapore Laksa Lemak, Singapore Chili Crabs, Geylang Grilled Whole Stingray, Iche Cabin Chicken Singapore Hainanese Chicken Rice and many more.
Royal Brunei Catering (RBC) even specially brought in two chefs, Chef Chee Kwan Kit and Chef Ramlah Khadar Bacha, from Grand Hyatt Singapore to showcase their signature dishes as well as exchange knowledge with RBC’s own chefs.

According to Songket Wedding Facebook, the Brunei Wedding Festival #BWF2015 was a huge success. The wedding fair was organised by Songket Wedding with the collaboration of Ifdhaal Event Management and Zilla Boutique which was joined by over 100 vendors. The event took place at ICC and it was launched by Datin Hjh Rosnah Pehin Dato Indera Sugara Dato Seri Laila Jasa Hj Johari, spouse of the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

At a prize presentation event held at the company’s head office in Sumbangsih Bahagia, Beribi this afternoon, four lucky customers were elated after being picked as winners in the second monthly draw.
The Multi Tier Savings Account – Get Rewarded from Your Savings promotion offers customers who deposited fresh funds of B$5,000 into their new or existing Multi Tier Savings Account (MTSA) a chance to win monthly cash prizes and be in the running to win the grand prize of B$50,000.
Md Shahidullah bin Md Mafizuddin, Jong Boon Nee, Cheong Huat Joo and Wu Siew Poh were rewarded with B$4,000, B$3,000, B$2,000 and B$1,000 respectively. TOT United of Malaysia emerged as the winners of the Standard Chartered Trophy Regional Tournament held in Kuala Lumpur held last Saturday 28 March 2015. The winners managed to best their counterparts, PTT GC of Thailand and Matahari FC of Brunei Darussalam and will go on to compete in the Standard Chartered Trophy Finals Tournament, held in Liverpool Football Club’s Homeground, Anfield this coming May.

“We’re extremely delighted to have been able to leverage on our partnership with Liverpool FC to give our local talents and rising futsal stars an opportunity like this to gain exposure outside of Brunei to push themselves and test their skills on a regional amateur level. The Standard Chartered Trophy Brunei Local Tournament was held on 16, 17, 20 and 21 of February. The tournament saw 24 teams compete for the chance to represent Brunei in the upcoming regional tournament. During the closing ceremony of the tournament, a mock cheque of BND2400 was handed over to JAPEM on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports for the Humanitarian Fund of the Malaysian Flood Disaster. The funds were raised from registration fees collected from the participating teams, 100% of which was donated.
19 countries have been globally selected to run the local qualifying tournaments and select winning teams. The winning teams will then advance to the regional stages to compete against other countries. The winning teams from the regional stage of the SC Trophy will then go on to the finals, held at Anfield Stadium in the United Kingdom. This is the fourth year that the Standard Chartered Trophy tournament has been organised and this season sees Vietnam defending their title from last season.
The Standard Chartered Trophy Brunei 2015 was supported by The Ministry of Culture Youth & Sports and endorsed by the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam.

I can’t find a proper mask. But not to worry, the air quality is still considered good according to today’s paper.
This is one of the hottest times in Brunei and it’s no surprise that forest fire will happen. However, I didn’t expect it to create such a nuisance because of the haze factor. We all keep hoping for rain to reduce the density of the haze. I also would like to salute our brave fire fighters who are doing their best to get rid of the fire. It’s never an easy task especially in the forest as it is difficult for the fire brigades to access the source of the fire in the middle of the forest.
So do take extra measures or even wear a mask if possible. Frankly speaking, I hardly see people wearing mask. Maybe the level of haze is still considered low (the PSI reading has ok so far) but sometimes precaution is much better approach. I can still smell the scent of smoke once I stepped out of my home. I live in Beribi but the source of the fire that I know is either near UBD area and Jerudong. So you can tell how damaging a forest fire can do.

What is Baiduri Bank’s intention for the Baiduri Masters? The intention has never change and it’s to raise funds where it will be channelled to a number of charities and welfare bodies. They believe in supporting programmes that offer educational opportunities and assistance to children with special needs. Registration fee is BND 120 for adults and BND 60 for juniors. For team, it will be additional BND 25 per person (x4). The fee is inclusive of green fees, buggy, buffet breakfast and lunch.
So who are qualified to be in the Team? It is open to all amateur golfers in a team of 4 players with a valid handicap or club verified handicap (which ever is lower) of 18 and below for men, and 24 and below for ladies.
The charitable bodies will be Pusat Ehsan, Child Development Center, Yayasan Kanak Kanak Kanser (YASKA), SMARTER Brunei, Learning Ladders Society, Paediatric Department, RIPAS and Special Education Unit, Ministry of Education.

For their love of food, lucky followers of a local blog dedicated to gastronomic delights each recently won a dining privilege card, worth $88, from Royal Brunei Catering (RBC).
The food lovers were the first 50 to submit their names and details at the Brunei Foodies’ App as part of an RBC Dining Privilege Card (DPC) give away competition.
Presenting the prizes to the winners at Seasons Restaurant was the Assistant Manager for RBC Corporate Sales and Marketing, Ivy Chong and on behalf Brunei Foodies was Kamarul Dzaman Ajimain or Marul. Also present to witness the event were the management of RBC and the restaurant.
The Give Away competition was in conjunction with the food bloggers’ achievements in reaching more than 11, 700 followers on Instagram as well a way of thanking their loyal fans for their support for their Instagram account and the Brunei Foodie Mobile App.

In celebration of Chinese New Year 2015, Baiduri Bank Group belatedly held a lavish eight-course dinner at Indera Samudra Grand Hall, The Empire Hotel & Country Club recently. Standing in the front line was CEO of the group Pierre Imhof as well as the management committee and senior executives who greeted 1,500 guests who are based in Brunei-Muara and Tutong districts.
Present too was Yang Berhormat Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh King Chin along with foreign dignitaries, prominent businessmen, customers, business partners and associates of the group.
The evening began with a cultural performance by talented students from the Chung Hwa Middle School Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB). Imhof then proceeded to deliver his opening speech, welcoming attendees and highlighting the major progresses and achievements of the group during the past year. He applauded Baiduri Bank in achieving three awards – Domestic Retail Bank for Brunei 2014, for the second time from Asian Banking and Finance; Best Banking Group for Brunei 2014 for the sixth time from World Finance; and Brunei’s Safest Bank 2014 from Global Finance, New York.
In addition, Baiduri Bank became the only bank in the Sultanate to receive Standard & Poor’s credit rating of BBB+/A-2 by an international rating agency.
In keeping up with the Chinese New Year tradition, Baiduri Bank Group donated ‘red packets’ to underprivileged students in order to provide financial support. The donations were presented by Imhof and received by respective principals and students from St Andrew’s, St George’s, Chung Hwa Middle School and Seri Mulia Sarjana School. The night was further painted red with a line-up of local performances and lucky draw prizes as well as best wishes toast by the management to the guests.

Fitness Zone, in collaboration with Shooting Stars Basketball and The Energy Kitchen, will be hosting the first ever Fitness Zone Holiday Basketball Camp for 5 days from 30 March 2015 to 3 April 2015, during the school holiday week.
Shooting Stars has been conducting weekly basketball clinics for kids of all skill levels from age 7 to 17 with the aim of promoting a healthy lifestyle for kids and learning teamwork skills through the game of basketball.
This camp will focus on intensive basketball drills and exercises but what is really interesting is that there is a focus on nutrition and healthy eating for the participants. Lunch will be provided each day by The Energy Kitchen and there will be a Fitness Zone Dietician to provide nutrition information.
So to the parents, this is ideal for your children to balance out between studies and extra curriculum activities. This is a great avenue for kids to interact with one another and also with young adults.

A great turn out last Sunday
A celebrity chef all the way from Malaysia hosted an exclusive cooking demonstration to the public of the Sultanate. Chef Ben Wu, a renowned chef originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia has been airing in the Malaysia’s local radio sharing food preparation and healthy eating habits. He has been followed by the local media during his cooking demo and expo shows due to his fun character and smooth flow of entertainment to his guests. He has been one of the in-house featured Chefs over “Y3K” magazines every edition whereby he has been sharing his winning recipes from rice and noodles to meats to desserts.
In cooperation with Fun Bee Park and IA Salon, a total of 42 guests enjoyed the cooking show which highlighted traditional recipes locally and infused dishes. Chef Ben titled his show: “The Lost Recipes” which featured mostly the local taste of past years dishes. Ten amazingly quick and easy recipes from soup, rice, cake, meat, juices, and ice cream were personally prepared by the chef for the attending guests.
Soup recipes such as ABC soup which chicken bones was boiled with cut potatoes, carrots, and tomatoes. Another mouth watering soup was the Tom Yam soup with chicken meat marinated with savory spices perfected to taste.
Ikan Asam was also a hit to the guests which were prepared and fully cooked in quick minutes. The fish dish was filled up with seasonings and organic spices to infused local taste with modern recipes.
Other lost recipes were popcorn, Kuih bakar, Kuih Ketayap, and Sos Chilli. Fruity juices were served to its freshest qualities, such as the creamy mango shake and Jus Vitamin King, a concoction of pineapple, honey, and sour plum.
The cooking demonstration ended up with food tasting of all traditional recipes that the hosting chef has prepared. In addition to the courses, Chef Ben’s team people cooked dishes that were local favorites such as Pumpkin chicken curry, Tom yam mee hoon, Patin fish with durian, and Nasi goreng with salted fish and pineapples. A group photo with Chef Ben, organizers, and invited guests sealed up the event and everyone was looking forward to the future demonstrations and cooking show.

There are no words to conveniently describe or do justice to the fabulous Showcase Concert at Jerudong International School (JIS) last weekend.
Held in the institution’s auditorium, the room reverberated with endless applause as philharmonic attendees enjoyed the spectacle performed by students and directed by Paul Edgeler and which covered a wide spectrum of popular music styles.
From lush, richly orchestrated Broadway numbers and beautiful acoustic ballads to catchy jazz standards and unapologetically loud, high-energy dance numbers, this year’s concert catered to everyone’s taste.
The audience was further enthralled by a gripping performance by violinist Shian Li Esther Chiam, who won the Junior World Champion Instrumentalist award for Brunei in the World Championships of Performing Arts in 2014.
Her solo performance of Smooth Criminal, accompanied by the orchestra, was simply dazzling.
Smiles further widened as JIS Year 11 pupil Aziz Harun took to the stage to perform Senyum, which was written and produced by Faizal Tahir and Mike Chan and received over 900,000 views on YouTube (amazing).

Francophonie Week coming soon
BIBD’s Wealth Management Unit (WMU) today, as part of its goal to raise awareness on the benefits of better financial management, delivered a financial planning talk to around forty personnel of the Ministry of Defence. The talk was delivered by BIBD’s own WMU Officer and Islamic Financial Planner, Rozielawati bti Hj Jamil.
One of the motives of these talks was to create awareness among the public on the advantages of current and future wealth management. This is also to support His Majesty’s Titah in conjunction with his birthday on 15th July 2006, “…additional revenue which will be received by the officers and employees of the Government, may be used prudently, while also trying to save through financial planning for future needs.”
Rozielawati started by asking what their financial goals were and commented that one of the basic strategies to achieving it was to manage and plan their finances properly. She continued that every individual will have different financial commitments and concerns throughout different stages of their lives.
She mentions, “When you’re single, you only pay for your personal commitments such as car financing, credit card and personal expenses. However, these commitments change when you get married and have children as you have to consider the expenses of your dependents, takaful/insurance plans, home financing, on top of your own personal commitments.”

She also explained that financial commitments shift towards pre-retirement and retirement to include their retirement and medical plans. She also shared how to manage earnings with an ideal financial diet on top of TAP and SCP. An example of an ideal financial diet is to save a minimum of ten percent of basic salary for savings, a maximum of fifteen percent for car financing, a maximum of thirty-five percent for house financing, and a combined fifteen percent for personal financing and credit card.
“It is also recommended to have an additional fund which will only be used in case of any emergencies,” she added. This fund, she advised, should have a provision of at least three to six months of monthly expenses. She shared a few tips on how to maintain the emergency fund such as how to budget and allocate for a consistent monthly saving amount until the emergency fund amount for the account has been reached (the more the better). This includes setting up a standing instruction for periodic transfer of funds and to increase the fund amount to reflect any increments in earnings.
Additionally, she also discussed about their spending requirements during retirement with their old age pension of $250 and a minimum of $150 for SCP. Together they calculated how much they needed to save beforehand in order to live comfortably during their retirement days.

Good France, to be held on 19th March (today), is a celebration of excellence of French cuisine and French style dinner throughout the world. 1000 chefs, 1500 restaurants and all French embassies will be involved in the event.
Her Excellency, Madam Loan Forgeron, French Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam will together with all other French ambassadors globally, invite distinguished guests to a French dinner on the 19 March at their residences. Through a meal savoured together, Mdm Loan Forgeron mentioned that it would foster the values of sharing a French culture that is close to the heart of all French, and of which UNESCO has listed as a World Cultural Heritage.
In respect to the cultures, tradition & religion, the meals prepared during the evening are halal, and prepared and cooked without any alcohol of course.
The 19 March is also the opening of the week of Francophonie. France shares so many cultures with French-speaking countries, from Africa to Asia through Canada …. and gastronomy represents a pillar of Francophonie.
Guest of honour for the event is Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Haji Othman, Deputy Minister of Culture Youth and Sports.
Two chefs, a French chef, Frederic Gardien, and the chef of the residence, Philipina chef, Edna Boqueo, who was trained in Paris by the executive chef of the Ministry of foreign affairs and trade, will showcase French culinary flair with a six course menu.
Her Excellency, with the collaboration of Voon, consultant for BusinessFrance, has jointly organized this event in the hope that through this, Bruneians will find France a more attractive destination and that this will be a start of a journey of discovering and appreciating French produce and products.
In conclusion, HE Mdm Loan Forgeron made mention of the famous French cook in 19th century, Auguste Escoffier, who told that “the art of cuisine is the most elaborate way of diplomacy”.
Late post: I always enjoy the sound of music and a few weeks ago, I experienced a room filled with jazz music and soothing vocals. It was also the first time I saw Serunai Singers performing. I wish to see more of this in the future. Kudos to the team behind it in making an avenue to showcase their talents to music lovers like myself. Keep up the great work!!
