Happy weekend, peeps

The models of the Samsung Galaxy Note7
Yes, Samsung has suspended its sale of the Note7 in some countries. Brunei also issued a statement through its seller DST group. The announcement comes barely two weeks after the Note7 went on sale. After users posted photos of their burnt Note7s with exploded batteries, Samsung mounted an investigation and found 35 Note7s worldwide with battery cell issues.
The replacement program has begun and it will take at least two weeks. In Singapore, all the telcos also suspended the sales of the Galaxy Note7.
So for those who haven’t purchase yet, you’re in luck.

Coming to you this August. Registration ends on 27th July 2016 (Two more days). Don’t forget to register [Click image to enter]
Are you ready for an awesome gimmick run? After two months of break, running events are back!! Perhaps this race is something more exciting than previous runs that have been organised. This is because of the items that runners are expected to receive as part of their race pack. The items themselves look very collectible especially the medals and even their running attire where a top and a sock will be given depending on your choice of superhero.
Apart from that, you can also pre-order merchandise of Batman V Superman which are available on their main website such as mugs, watch, t-shirts and many more. Hence, I would say there is a lot of thought being put into this racing event.
The closing date of the registration will be on the 27th July 2016 as well as the payment for the Batman V Superman Brunei Darussalam Run. As for the running event itself, it will take place on 21st August 2016 at the Jerudong Park Amphitheatre. Click here to go to the official website and register there.
The event is organised by Heroes Brunei (under Armtrix Enterprise) and it’s supported by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. All the best and I’m pretty sure there will be a good turn of this event.

There will be medals given to all categories. This is a sample for the 3.8 km run

Among the attendees at DST “Social Media” Raya was the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports (2nd from right).
DST has been quite particular with invitees and all attendees will have to register their names for attendance
Interestingly enough DST hosted a so called “Social Media” Raya theme last week and it was held at the usual spot at JIS Arts Centre at Jerudong International School. I kinda like the venue though and the set up this time has much improvement from last year – more space to wander around and mingle.
As I mentioned the theme is “Social Media” Raya, inspired by the ongoing lifestyle tread of social media tools used for social interaction in a tech savvy society. You will come across familiar names such as WhatsApp, Google, Facebook and so on. Furthermore, the guests were entertained by a 6-piece orchestra (Malcolm and his friends) and I truly enjoyed the occasion.
There were nice range of food vendors, popular on social media and the one that caught my eye.. I mean, my taste, was the delicacy from @piasau.glace (must try). The set up of all the vendors were uniformed and it showed a simple nice touch to the Hari Raya event.
According to Radin Sufri Radin Basiuni, Assistant General Manager of Group Corporate Communications, the team enjoyed setting up the Raya themed event and it was a fun challenge to incorporate social media into the event. It’s also an opportunity combined with the spirt of Hari Raya to meet at one time and provide them with hospitality.
Aside from DST’s annual celebration, the leading telco had organised a series of Hari Raya celebrations including DST Hari Raya with Special Needs Children and also for Corporate associates from the Belait District.
Hosting the event were Awang Abdul Lattif, member of the DST Board of Directors and Suhaimi Hussain, CEO of DST.

The winners of the band category, A-1, with the sponsors and judge last week
Bridgette Ang, winning the solo category
Wunderbar…. It’s an expression, meaning wonderful and the word is originated from Germany. This was the word that was introduced at UBD toastmasters meeting last Monday and last night I used it as well for Brunei Speakers Club meeting. Now today, I using Wunderbar to express how the performances were from the recent competition organised by the Trinity London College.
The event took place at Expression Music (Kiulap) and the competition was also sponsored by Royal Brunei Airlines where the winners will be flying to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, this September for the Regional Semi-finals of the Asean “Be Our Rock & Pop Soul” Music Competition.
I had the honour to witness 5 solo performers and only two will be chosen to represent Brunei. In the solo category, WCOPA 2014 medalist Bridgette Ang emerged as a winner, belting out an awesome rendition of Whitney Houston’s Greatest Love of All and the runner up solo performance went to Lim Ao who stole the show with his guitar performance on Iron Maiden’s Run to the Hills. They both received $500 and $250 cash prize and a trophy respectively.
I love both the bands though only two bands performed which means that regardless of the placing, both teams will also fly to Vietnam. So it’s only down to bragging rights to who was the better band. In the end, A-1, with some lady power, singing to our heart delights – “Crazy in love” by Beyoncê and they earned a first prize trophy and $1,000 cash prize. Second place went to band Waht? with their rendition of Bring me back to life by Evanensence. They went home with $500 and a trophy. Both will also fly to Ho Chi Minh City for the competition.
The prizes were presented by Azhani Abu Daniel, Head of Corporate Communications, Royal Brunei Airlines, and Lily Chiam, Music Director of Expression Music. The judges included Abdoh Damit, a Brunei jazz drummer and educator, James Boyle, a pianist and lecturer in Kuala Lumpur and U-Jin Lim, Regional Academic Consultant from Trinity College London.
The judges were full of praises for the performers and advised them to show more showmanship during their performance as this will help them to woo the audience. Only through showmanship that every single person will show their character which can be the deciding factor among the regional judges.
For your info, Trinity College London’s ground breaking Rock and Pop Music Syllabus has paved the way for young musicians to be able to perform popular music genres in local examinations where eligible contestant from six countries – Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and host country Vietnam – will compete in the regionals.
The contest’s four judges are Senior Vice-President of Trinity College, London, Asia Tyler Smith; CEO of record label BMBX Entertainment Kelly Chew; artist manager of Thai singer Tata Young – Myke Brown and Thanh Bui, a judge of Vietnam Idol 2015.
The winner of the music competition will receive prizes worth up to US$25,000 and other prizes from Trinity College and BMBX Entertainment. The final round will take place on September 7 at The Opera House in Ho Chi Minh.
I was totally impressed with the young performers last week. I hope that they will gain more exposure and experience to better themselves and up the game. Thank you, Lily, for the invitation. I truly enjoyed the occasion. Good luck to all the performers and it was such a Wunderbar experience.

Fourth Audi Cup, third title. FC Bayern München is a power throughout preseason tournament at the home Allianz Arena. In the final, the German record league champions beat Real Madrid 1:0 after Robert Lewandowski netted a late goal. In the third place playoff, English representative Tottenham Hotspur beat Italian traditional club AC Milan by 2:0.
Clubs from the top four European leagues in Germany, Spain, England and Italy went head-to-head for the first time in Audi Cup history. The high-caliber field fulfilled expectations: after four goal-laden and partly high quality fixtures, the winner’s trophy went as it did in 2009 and 2013 to FC Bayern München. “Thanks to FC Bayern München, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Tottenham Hotspur for a fantastic tournament. Congratulations to the deserved winner,” says Chairman of the Board of Management, AUDI AG Rupert Stadler. “The real winners are the fans, who were able to enjoy top-level European football on two days. The 70,000 seats in the Allianz Arena were sold-out on both match days.”
FC Bayern winning the Audi Cup 2015
After Bayern Trainer Pep Guardiola had initially rested several first team regulars in the 3:0 semi-final victory against Milan, he changed his line-up for the final against Real Madrid. This had an impact. Bayern dominated possession in the first half and created several good chances. Thomas Müller and Mario Götze had the best opportunities to open the scoring. Real Madrid started without its two goal scorers in the 2:0 semi-final victory against Milan, James Rodríguez and Gareth Bale. In the early stages of the second half (61st minute), substitute Robert Lewandowski missed the best chance of the game in front of an open goal. Then, just before the final whistle (88th minute) he directed a pinpoint cross from new signing Douglas Costa into the net to seal a well-deserved 1:0 win. In the third place playoff, Tottenham beat Milan 2:0 with goals from Nacer Chadli and Thomas Carroll.
The Audi Player Index was another tournament winner. The brand new evaluation and ranking procedure records almost every activity of each player, for example sprints, shots at goal, crosses, tackles and ball possession, and in this way objectively determines the respective ‘Man of the Match’ after every match. In the third place playoff, Tottenham’s defender Kieran Trippier received the trophy. In the final, the Audi Player Index identified Bayern’s David Alaba.
For FC Bayern München, preparations for the 2015/2016 season are now concluded. The official fixtures start already this coming weekend with the first round of the DFB trophy. Last year’s finalist faces Oberliga club FC Nöttingen on August 9. The day before, Tottenham Hotspur plays Manchester United away from home on the first day of the Premier League season. Real Madrid (at Sporting Gijon) and AC Milan (at AC Florence) start their respective league fixtures two weeks later.

Joanna Kwan playing the lead role as Mary Poppins. Awesome!!
Awesome dance choreography
Though I was still tired from the short Labuan trip, I managed to catch the Mary Poppins on the final night. The previous musical broadway performance from @relentlessbrunei (Relentless Entertainment) was two years ago and it was entitled Enchanted Forest if I’m not mistaken. Last weekend, @relentlessbrunei upped their game with a rendition of Mary Poppins in Poppins the Musical.
Well done to the cast of Relentless especially Joanna Kwan and Zainal Bostaman. It was the first time I saw Zainal acting on stage and Joanna is no stranger in the acting scene as she carried the show with her role as Mary Poppins. The dance choreography was impressive as well and my best scene of the play was the “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”.
To be honest, I know of Mary Poppins’ movie existence but I never really take notice of the plot until that night. The only problem I noticed for their show was the microphone issue though this is a huge improvement from the first night from the word of mouth. This is because not all microphones had the same audio level. I couldn’t hear Aaqiil’s voice properly and some of the voices from the cast weren’t really articulated.
Other than that, the show exceeded my expectations and I applaud Relentless Entertainment to bring this musical show once again to the public. Keep up the great work!! I’ve flooded with tons of pictures. Enjoy!!

Hello March
I didn’t expect the long break from blogging but I’m back again. You can still stalk me on @ranoadidas instagram for updates though. I have been away and was in the Philippines for the weekend for a FitFlop event. Yes, you heard me right, a FitFlop occasion. I’m actually quite honoured to be part of the media list for FitFlop and it’s slowly to show its promise in Brunei Darussalam, after Hua Ho managed to bring in the brand to the Sultanate last year.
My mom is such a huge fan of FitFlop too especially when she shops at Metro in Paragon, Singapore. The only problem is that Fitflops are catered to females. Literally 98% of their collections are for the ladies. I was giving a few pairs courtesy of FitFlop Philippines during their recent SS15 media launch and I have to admit FitFlop are pretty comfortable sandals. For those who know me, I hardly were sandals for a “reason”. I shall be posting more stories on FitFlop SS15 latest collection in my future post.
I was in Bohol, the Philippines for the launch of the FitFlop SS15 Spring collection. More updates soon.
I missed two big events, well, one was bigger than the other which was the Regata Brunei Darussalam which took place yesterday at the Royal Wharf. It is a yearly event and I covered it for the past three years. It is always great to know His Majesty the Sultan is a regular participant of the Regata Brunei Darussalam. His Majesty was in the boat Rajawali which won the 500m special race, compromising of the Regata Brunei Darussalam Committee Team A.
Another event was DPMM FC’s opening seasoner game against Harimau Muda B where new import Rafael Ramazotti bagged a hat-trick with a 3-1 victory at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium. The new looked DPMM FC retained the services of foreign imports Joe Gamble and Boris Raspudic but it was Rafael (Rafa) that stole the limelight. It could have been a clean sheet for DPMM FC but there were unlucky with the deflection late in the game. Nonetheless a deserving victory for DPMM FC but it is still early days.

This morning, I attended a press conference held by AITI and it was regards to the official announcement of the FREE incoming calls for both mobile operators – DST and Progresif Cellular. Before the announcement came, both the local mobile operators have taken quick steps to implement the new move of removing the charges for incoming calls. Awesome!! I shall go more into details in my next post. Finally after 20 years, DST has officially removed charges for incoming call and Progesif Cellular have also made it a win-win situation for their customers. This initiative was from AITI for your information to benefit the end users of mobile users in Brunei Darussalam.
My Chinese year celebration has been slightly muted and that’s how I wanted it to be anyway. I’ve been feeling the pinch in terms of my sleeping patterns but it should re-adjust to its usual timing …. in a few weeks’ time 😀 My apologies for those invitations that I wasn’t able to make it. There were simply too many invitations to entertain. I have a few more before the end of CNY which falls this Thursday. This year, I only managed to catch two lion dance performance. It must have been tough for the other associations with the newer laws on lion dance in Brunei.
At Chin Wei’s open house last night
A quick catch up with Lily Chiam over her small CNY lunch invitation
Ok, about time for me to sign off first and blend into my social world of visiting friends (open house). I’m craving for maggi curry but I don’t want to burden our home chef 😀 I’ll just wait an extra hour before I eat at my friend’s open house tonight. Thank you for reading and thank you for your patience. You can always stalk my IG aka instagram for updates 😀 and Happy Birthday to my sister, Muji, and love you loads 😀

The new pricing and rates for Telbru customers by 1st March 2015
Telekom Brunei (TelBru) Chief Marketing Officer Lim Ming Soon speaking to the press yesterday. Image courtesy of Leo Kasim of The Brunei Times.
My thoughts. With the launch of the Broadband Policy late last year, this is a great initiative by TelBru to ensure that all Telbru subscribers can enjoy better connectivity in their homes or offices. The great thing I thought about the new plan pricing is the affordability. Now you can subscribe tailoring to your needs. For as low as $39 a month, you are eligible for a broadband experience. With such low pricing, internet at home can be affordable and internet penetration will be very high within the next few years or so.
I believe the most important execution from Telbru is education – having multiple campaigns and roadshow to create more awareness to the public (potential and existing customers). Having a small booth as part of an exhibition isn’t enough. Telbru will need to go all out to grab attention like how they launched the High Speed Broadband back at Times Square in 2013. It’s important to win the customers’ confidence and trust and most importantly to be transparent to the customers in order to gain the trust.
There have been positive feedback and also the negative ones. It won’t be easy for any telco providers even for DST and Progresif Cellular. We as a community have high demands in terms of internet and data usage. Perhaps, we have been spoilt all these years, enjoying unlimited access of internet at an enjoyable speed. I remember Singapore used to have unlimited access before they switched to a limited (capped) quota of data to ensure that the internet speed doesn’t lag. This was a few years ago. Today, Singtel from Singapore provides even a better package with unlimited usage because of the better and improved infrastructure they have.
In my opinion, Telbru made the right move. I would believe the current infrastructure can’t be compared to neighbouring countries (Singapore, Malaysia) but it’s sufficient enough to cater to the Brunei population. Sometimes we forget how small of an economy Brunei is compared to other countries. We don’t have the luxury of a vast market but sometimes being small is good which means lesser hassle for the hotline 111.
Most countries have introduced the Fair Usage Policy as part of their terms and conditions. This will be new to Brunei especially to Telbru customers. As different users perform different online activities, the amount of data required per user will also be different. Telbru’s Fair Usage Policy ensures that all customers get a better browsing experience by allocating each user their ideal amount of data based on their usage preference. In other words, if you only fork out for $39 broadband fee, it won’t be fair if they enjoy unlimited access and causing the speed to slow down.
The new pricing and rates will be the talk of the town because it’s relevant to our daily usage. It’s like a staple food and the more we give, the hungrier and demanding we get. I’m already getting mixed comments on my IG after posting Telbru’s latest rates with quota usage. It has to start somewhere and education is the key. I understood now why neighbouring countries applied a similar approach a few years ago and now we are at that stage.
The months of April, May, June and even for the remainder of 2015 will be a testament on how Telbru can shift the mindset of consumers. It worked for DST when they announced the cap for data usage a few years back. So I don’t see anything different. I would have thought Telbru came up with this scheme before they launched the High Speed Broadband. Well, it’s better late than never.
Sometimes we have to ask ourselves, when is enough enough? For me, I’m still grateful for the new services Telbru has provide and they have continuously upgrade their services for the benefit of the customers.
If you ask me, this isn’t a paid review or editorial for Telbru. I wasn’t even given an invitation to their press conference yesterday. But I blog this because it’s very relevant to all of us and I’m also a customer of their High Speed Broadband and I’m enjoying it.

Route 300 is located at Megastrike Bowl
The Hot Routes
Route 300, the in-house eatery at Megastrike Bowl, launched their new menu over the weekend, with members of the public, coming to enjoy the delicious new dishes and dressing up in 60’s style to enjoy a fun-filled time of bowling and dining.
The newly refurbished menu was created with the assistance of Gourmet Consultant, a local firm, to update and customize its food selections, yet priced at reasonable value for money for all to enjoy.
According to Managing Director of Route 300, Major (Rtd) Hjh Sharifah Hazlina Syed Elham, a month was spent analyzing and brainstorming to come up with the clever new menu, with names borrowed from the techniques, rules and elements of bowling.
Among the new dishes featured are the “Hot Routes” – beef and chicken Frankfurters in hotdogs buns with special toppings that are named after popular bowling styles — such as the Cranker which is made from beef rasher, mustard mayo and onion jam; the Spinner which include lemon garlic mayo and tomato salsa; and the Tweener which consist of thai chili mayo and pineapple salsa.
Another interesting addition, is the Gutter Ball Burger, an in-house made burger patty, which is filled with mozzarella sauce that oozes out when placed between it’s unique square shaped bun. The menu also features delicious quick bites called spare snacks, like their Cheesy and Tuna toasts, which are grilled on a hot plate.
The diner is also introducing their own take on traditional milkshakes called Quakes slike the Honey Banana, Cookies and Cream, and local inspired three-layered tea quake as well as other refreshing beverages, finger food and toasts.
Route 300 can provide catering services during tournaments or league games at the MegaStrike Bowl, and also has reasonable birthday packages for kids. For more information about Route 300, please visit its Facebook fan page ‘Megastrike Bowl’ and Instagram @megastrikebowl’

I haven’t been consistent in my updates on RA and the reason being is that I’m currently outstation and in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This is my third trip back to Siem Reap and it has been awesome apart from the slight showers. We were supposed to visit the temple with a bunch of friends but the weather wasn’t favourable. Today we will have another opportunity again to visit Angkor Wat during the day. Let’s hope for some good weather.
So peeps. I won’t be updating my blog for some time now so I can allow myself to enjoy the moments in Siem Reap which I have a few days left. Oh by the way, there will be a few Bruneians coming in to Siem Reap for the upcoming Angkor Wat Marathon. I do hope I have time to drop by and take some pictures. We shall see.
I would have thought my luggage would have been lower than 20K but no…. it hit the right spot 😀
For many years, we have been traveling buddies and truly appreciate the friendship that we have.
I’m actually quite impressed with the infrastructure of KLIA 2 (low cost terminal for AirAsia) because it seems to be more happening with tons of food & beverage outlets and shops around. It’s like millions way better than their older airport (LCCT).
This outlet, Hometown, is better than Old Town actually. Do try the steamed roti kawin.
Quite an affordable hotel at Tunes Hotel and I was skeptical in the beginning but the energy was quite welcoming and judging from the reception and the interior design at the lobby, I could tell the rooms would be just perfect for a short stay in KL.
Even the key slot for the room at Tunes Hotel look very savvy
The room is quite spacious and it costs below USD 60 per night
Arrived at Siem Reap last Monday and it seems the airport has not changed from the exterior bit. My last visit was back in 2011 and I was impressed that even my PR status passport didn’t require Visa unless you are staying more than 14 days.. Awesome!!! Thank you to the government of Cambodia for this.
Once you at the arrival hall, you will come across these kiosks and just look at the prices they offer. It’s quite competitive in Siem Reap where they have 5 telcos selling sim cards with data at very dirt cheap price. For USD 5, I could get a sim card and 3.5 GIGA data. Awesome!!! The line I chose was Cellcard (orange company)
A warm soothing welcome at Angkor Palace Resort & Spa. Actually, it doesn’t feel like a resort because there’s no beach around the hotel.
This is my current room and I will be staying here a few more nights. Pleasure to have Vincent Goh of Netcom Computer House as my roommate
We came to this desert place in city and wow, we were impressed with all the desserts. Highly recommended at L’Anexxe. Do google in and for those Bruneians coming down here for the Angkor Wat marathon, do try out this French cafe. There was also a small pool table for us to play.
Catching up with friends for dinner at Madam Butterfly.
One thing I like about Angkor Palace is the huge pool
Another amazing friend who I truly appreciate and thank you for believing, Pat!
The tuk-tuk ride to the city of Siem Reap and the riders are much more gentle compared to the ones in Bangkok. Make sure you don’t pay more than USD 3 per trip 😀
Few days ago this happened to my left eye and my eyes were pretty itchy too. I’m not sure if it’s the antibiotics that I have been taking because it stopped itchy after I stopped taking them.

Head of student representatives Muhd Romulus bin Muhd Roland speaking on behalf of the scholars
Last year it was above 40. This year, Brunei Shell Joint Venture (BSJV) awarded 54 students for scholarship programs and it is also the first time that a few scholars will be sent to Germany in August to pursue Mechanical Engineering at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
The scholarship program has been one of the most sought program and they have been many applications as demands are increasing in these fields. In actual fact, around 234 people applied for this year’s program. Furthermore, there are many students who are taking such subjects and interests and it’s pretty evident on the increase numbers of intakes for this year’s edition. Forty students will be heading to the UK, two in the United States, two in Germany and ten in Brunei Darussalam.
Before being awarded, the scholars had to undergo a tough assessment set by BSJV. Did you know that BSJV have sent over 600 students and this is back dated from 1972. Amazing!! The scholars will also be given the opportunity to be placed for attachment during summer to gain more experience.
Present during the event were Azhar Hj Yahya, Commercial Director of Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) and the guest of honour Hjh Rosmawatty Hj Abd Mumin, Permanent Secretary (Upstream), Energy Department at the Prime Minister’s Office.
There was also tokens of appreciation to First Class Achievers and they are Lim Jong Hau, Han Wenxiu, Fiona Shim Siew Ying, Izzah Mardhiah Zulkipli and Farah Azyan binti Ali Umar Safri and they all received mini iPads :p
Congratulations to all the beneficiaries of the BSJV scholarship program and do make them proud and contribute back to the economy of Brunei 🙂

Elizabeth Sim and her co-host Kevin Lo interviewing Chris Woo at Timeout with Liz last weekend
I missed the first show of Timeout with Liz and I didn’t realise it has been a year already. Good job on Elizabeth Sim to keep the show going despite the challenges that she has to go through over the period. Venue has always been a problem and it looks she has found a proper setting for her show. Last weekend she had two special guests – Chris Woo and Bridgette Ang as well as Joanna Kwan. There was also a food demo by Hip and Healthy during the 3rd segment of the show.
Overall the energy was great and so was the turn out. Great to see Zainal Bostaman and Joanne Tan to be involved in the show as well as Liz’ co-host Kevin Lo.I would like to congratulate Elizabeth on her one year anniversary of her show and things can only get better from here. I’m looking forward to your future shows this year and let’s start the 2nd year with a bang.

As part of DST’s “Ihsan Kasih” community program, over 30 orphans accompanied by their parents and guardians from the Tutong District between the ages of 8 and 17 were treated to movie outing to watch Brunei’s local film “Yasmine: The Movie” as well as have the opportunity to meet and greet the stars from the local Brunei film “Yasmine”.
The outing began with a welcoming reception at Dewan Kemasyarkatan in Tutong town by DST’s “Ihsan Kasih” volunteers where the children accompanied by their guardians were provided bus shuttle return transportation to the cinema in Empire Hotel & Country Club in Jerudong. At the cinema, the orphans were greeted by DST “Ihsan Kasih” volunteers.
DST also treated the children with a free popcorn and drink before they were ushered to their seats in the cinema joined by the stars themselves.
According to Elixsurian Hj Busu, Manager of Group Corporate Communications on the Ihsan Kasih initiative with Orphans, “DST have been proactive in arranging activities for orphans from fun futsal tournaments in Brunei-Muara district, educational trips to places like the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC) in Seria, Belait District, and now a movie outing to the cinema. We are glad that we have the means and opportunity to give the orphans in Tutong a movie outing as currently Tutong does not have its own resident cineplex. At the same time, DST have the opportunity to share the enjoyable experience with the children and get to know them better”.
He also adds his positive views on the chosen film for the outing, “Feedback from many local viewers have recommended Yasmine as a movie that is universal for all ages as it also comes with various life lessons that can be learned. Also, as the movie is produced by our own local talents, it is also a means to inspiring the orphan children to believe that anything they dream of can be possible. We are fortunate that the director and actresses have taken their personal time to meet the children and to get to know them during this short time.”
After the movie the children were given the opportunity to an exclusive surprise meet and greet photo session with the stars from “Yasmine: The Movie”- Liyana Yus, Nadia Wahid, the movie director from Origin films, Siti Kamaluddin. The visit ended with DST providing DST “Ihsan Kasih” goodies to the children before their departure back to Tutong.
Also invited to the movie outing were DST’s corporate and premium clients as a token of appreciation for their loyalty and support to DST’s products and services throughout the years.
“Ihsan Kasih” is DST’s community program aimed to gather DSTians for voluntary work and to do beautiful things out of love, to help the less fortunate Bruneian, orphans and special needs community.

Last night was a done deal. The new Executive Committee (ExCo) of Brunei Speakers Club 2014-2015 have been elected and their roles will come to effect by 1st July 2014. Stuart Lee, the current President of Brunei Speakers Club, has done a tremendous stint during his term and rose the club to greater heights as the club reached a high score of 10 out of 10 for Distinguished Club Programme. Let’s hope the new batch will continue the momentum and in Hazwan Kamarulzaman’s inaugural speech as the new elected President, he promised to bring the best out of the club and I trust him for leading the club after his wonderful contribution in his previous role as Sergeant at arm in the Brunei Speakers Club.

I shall mark my date and give my support and wish you to the best, Chris.

There are also mentors in this program and notably the presence of Dato Timothy Ong, Chairman Asia Inc Forum who is no stranger when it comes entrepreneurship and his vast knowledge and wisdom through his experiences. Other mentors include our very own resilient Keeran Janin, Founder of Chrends, who kinda hit the money shot with his latest app #Chrends and he is definitely a good role model for young, hungry entrepreneurs and of course, Nicky Wong, the owner of Linknet Solutions and the founder of the successful qqestore.com

Through the Founder Institute’s part-time four-month program, existing and prospective entrepreneurs can launch a company with expert startup training, feedback, and support from experienced startup CEOs, while not being required to quit their day job. The company’s mission is to “Globalize Silicon Valley” and create sustainable startup ecosystems that will create one million new jobs worldwide.
Leading the Founder Institute’s efforts in Bandar Seri Begawan are Md Hadi Shafie, a serial entrepreneur recently relocated to Bandar Seri Begawan from Google, and Nurul Ain Jaafar, one of the people spearheading efforts for SME development in the past.
“There is no time like the present to start a business,” says Hadi.
If you would like to help bring the Founder Institute to Bandar Seri Begawan, then be sure to complete an Interest Form by 2014-06-22 at http://fi.co/apply/bandar_seri_begawan. If enough people complete the form, then the Founder Institute will formally launch a chapter in Bandar Seri Begawan on 4th September 2014. Come on, peeps!! I think we can do this. Late post: Creative advertising and design strategies were the main highlights of DST’s “Future Meet Ups” session on Friday 23rd May 2014 at DST’s Signature Store Training Room in Airport Mall, Berakas. The intensive knowledge sharing and creative workshop session gave participants from Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB), Jefri Bolkiah College of Engineering (MKJB), Brunei Polytechnic College and DST, insight on how to effectively market products together with the dynamics of understanding creative work in the current business market, as well as learn and apply advertising strategies that result in creative strategic campaigns. The session was facilitated and conducted by Jordan Yau and Reuben Chin from Madmilk Design and Services, two local specialists in the field of creative communication, design and advertising.
Dayang Hjh Safrina binti Pehin Dato Hj Abd Rahman, Manager of Group Corporate Communications, shares her view that local start-ups and potential technopreneurs need to be well versed not only with technical ICT skills but also in areas of business and marketing which are fundamental of successful businesses especially in dynamic business markets which fluctuate according to consumer demands.
The communication specialists from Madmilk were positive about Future Meet Ups as a platform knowledge sharing. In a statement by Jordan Yau he shares, “The session is great because in a world of specialists, you may be really good at one thing, but it turns out you lack knowledge and expertise in other areas so a platform like Future Meet Ups for knowledge transfer is definitely good because everybody gets to learn from one another including ourselves.”
Reuben Chin added enthusiastically that the session was beneficial not just to the receivers of knowledge but to the presenters, “As facilitators not only did the students learn something but we also learn something.
“Future Meet Ups”” is part of DST’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, “Future Series” which is an initiative to create platforms to nurture promising Bruneian ICT individuals through investing in the individuals to generate business opportunities aimed to drive innovation and creativity in Brunei.
