I will be away for the next two weeks. But I shall be posting my entries from time to time. Finishing my 1st half year of my trips of 2015. It has been a fruitful year so far.

The Royal Bees had a great break in the last 5 minutes and stamped their authority over Myanmar 56-47 yesterday in the netball tournament of the 28th SEA Games in OCBC Arena, Singapore. I was kinda upset because I only caught the final 8 minutes of the match (Kinda long story that). Anyway, well done to the Brunei netball team and I’m pretty sure the mood is on a high because a win is a win and this is a good motivation for the Brunei netball team to show that believe that anything is possible especially the teams that are superior to them.
The Royal Bees will need to beat the Philippines (who got trounced by Malaysia 112-11) and Thailand if they need to be in the final four. I believe even one victory over the two will be enough to squeeze in into the final four and that will give a possibility for Brunei to achieve a medal status for the SEA Games.
The head coach was highly praised of the team especially to the centre – Tia and Amal because of their great partnership. Their coach Jinadasa said that they need to work on their defence. This will be their key to beating Thailand (today at 3:30pm). Good luck to the Royal Bees and even though I caught the game with 8 minutes remaining, it was worth the catch 😀 I won’t be catching the rest of the matches as I will be flying off today. Good luck to all the Brunei participants in the SEA Games.

Until July 13, shoppers will earn double Royal Skies miles with a minimum spending of $15 in a single receipt.
Royal Skies Manager Yasmin Abdullah said the airline is constantly looking at new ways to provide frequent flyers new benefits and ways of redeeming their air miles.
“With the partnership effort between Freshco Supermarket and Royal Skies, we in Freshco, strongly believe that we will achieve our shared goal in giving our customers a more rewarding shopping experience,” said the management of Freshco in a press statement.

In celebrating the new partnership, the store organised an ‘amazing race’ activity last Friday to reward its shoppers.
Six teams of two geared up for the race. Three teams emerged as winners and each won 5000 Royal Skies miles, goodie bags as well as Freshco shopping vouchers.
Apart from that, shoppers also earned 10 Royal Skies miles for every $10 spent at the store yesterday. In addition, the first 50 customers who shopped at Freshco between 7pm to 9pm last night stood a chance to win 5,000 miles and prizes. The first awareness and ice-breaker will be in Kuala Belait tomorrow. It’s free entry and dinner provided as well. To RSVP, do contact Del 8747521 and the venue will be held at Wan Shan Restaurant
The Young Entrepreneurs Association Brunei (YEAB),will be hosting a dinner and awareness event to attract new members into the association on Thursday 19th June. The event will be held at Wan Shan restaurant at Unit 18 & 19, Lot 7191, in Jalan Jaya Negara, Pandan 4, Kuala Belait.
I recently caught up with Del Goh, the President of YEAB and this is what he has to say about tomorrow’s event as well as YEAB in the long run.
RA: What’s in store for this year and give me a few good reasons why young and hungry entrepreneurs should sign up for YEAB?
Del Goh: Doing business in Brunei a lot of times boil down to who you know. And it’s never a bad thing to know more people. YEAB could potentially open up a new door to many new faces, faces that come with many life experiences that could help guide those new up-and-comers, or spark potential future partnerships.
We already have the rest of the year planned out in terms of activities, be it a festive get-together during Hari Raya or raising funds for a good cause with a big event. You will have to keep checking back with us for details.
RA: You have traveled many places and what do you see collectively in SMEs in other countries? Are they more active?
Del Goh: Brunei is unique. We are a small country with an even smaller population. A lot of things that other countries are doing on a larger scale we may not be able to do. But there are also things that we have and they don’t, and one of them is the “interconnectedness” of our strong ties in this close-knit community. But having said that, look at what YEAB did last year with the ASEAN Summit. So we can play big, but we just have to play smarter at the same time.
RA: The first networking meeting will be held at KB. Any catch?
Del Goh: No. We thought we would reach out to the KB community too because a lot of things and events always happen in Bandar area. And the Belait community are inevitably left out most of the time. We as an association want to include everyone. No doubt we won’t be able to do this in every area but Belait is the second largest district so why not do it there too?
RA: Do you think they are growing numbers of young entrepreneurs compared to a few year’s ago?
Del Goh: Definitely. A whole lot more. Look at how many more outlets and shops and franchise businesses have come in. Cafes are booming, eateries have never been more competitive, and most of them are managed by youths. It’s a great time to do business here.
RA: Who are the mentors that you have identified for YEAB?
Del Goh: We are all volunteers here. Nobody is getting a salary. We all do what we can, as long as there is the willingness. All of us can be mentors to those who need it. And depending on what a particular person needs, we will be able to point them in the right direction with our collective experience and contacts.
RA: Lastly, why should students be part of this? I see that you have allowed students to join with a $25 yearly membership.
Del Goh: Students, youths, they are the future. It’s important to have one’s base strong. That would lead to an smoother progression later on. So by joining YEAB, with the amount of exposure that we get, the amount of invitations to talks and seminars that we receive from different companies and ministries, it’s a great way to gain some insights and education on the entrepreneurial front. And by being in an association like this, they get to broaden their network and can ask the right questions to the right people.
The End
So there you go, peeps!! Just a quick run down of what to expect from YEAB and for new potential members, there will be an annual subscription fee of BND 200. You will know know what opportunities will open for you in the near future.
