Schindler Liftec having a Safety Awareness Roadshow, Friday

Written by Rano Iskandar on . Posted in community, Social News

Sakinah Hj Enchi @ Tiapsah, General Manager of Schindler Liftec Sdn Bhd during the press conference on Monday

Some awareness that Schindler Group is a Switzerland company that was founded back in 1874

It’s quite interesting to see a company that deals with lifts and escalators (something we take for granted) is involved in bringing awareness to the community through a roadshow and also giving back to the community.

I’m pretty sure that you have used the escalators and the lifts at The Mall, Gadong. For your info, the company that made it possible is Schindler Liftec Sdn Bhd and they have an office located in Kiulap. Their office has been around for many years already and the Switzerland company shows why it’s important to open an office here in Brunei – to provide the best service to their customers and clients.

The most important core value of Schindler Liftec is: SAFETY. In Brunei alone, the amount of people they have transported from floor to floor have been a huge responsibility of the land owner and also the company that provides the actual lifts and escalators.

Hence, Schindler Liftec Sdn Bhd will be hosting a Safety Awareness Roadshow this Friday, 24th November 2017 at the Mall Gadong. There will be activities for the kids and children in promoting the awareness of lifts and escalators and to prevent incidents from occurring.

Donations will also be given to the MPK as well as the orphans from Schindler Liftec Sdn Bhd as part of their corporate social responsibility.

The press conference was chaired by Sakinah Hj Enchi @ Tiapsah, General Manager of Schindler Liftec Sdn Bhd who briefed the media for the upcoming event at The Mall, Gadong. She said that the company wants to make a difference for the better. They believe that every interaction with the customer, partner or passenger should be a positive one and bring confidence to their customers and passengers alike.

Bruneian appointed as ASEAN secretary-general

Lim Jock Hoi, a seasoned diplomat of Brunei Darussalam, will be helming the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, following last night’s announcement by Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Lee confirmed Lim’s appointment as the next ASEAN secretary-general on Tuesday evening during a speech to mark the start of Singapore’s chairmanship of the 10-nation bloc in 2018.

Lim, a permanent secretary at the Brunei Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministry, will take on his new role in January to replace current ASEAN Secretary-General Le Luong Minh of Vietnam. Minh will conclude his five-year term at the end of this year.

Lee expressed his gratitude to the outgoing ASEAN Secretary-General in Tuesday’s closing ceremony of the 31st ASEAN Summit, held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Manila.

He said that Singapore, which takes over as ASEAN chair from current host the Philippines, looked forward to working closely with Lim and the ASEAN Secretariat to strengthen community-building efforts.

Lim entered the Brunei government in 1977, having served in foreign affairs and trade roles. Most recently, he was Brunei’s chief negotiator in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) free trade talks until its conclusion in 2015.

Media reports say Lim’s experience will help push forward negotiations on the ASEAN-led Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), a trade pact that rivals the TPP and is set to conclude next year.

In running the Secretariat, Lim will be responsible for overseeing a staff of about 300 and managing more than 1,000 ASEAN meetings each year.

The ASEAN secretary-general is appointed by the ASEAN summit for a non-renewable term of five years, selected from among the ASEAN member states based on alphabetical rotation.

From what I heard: Apparently the ASEAN Secretary-General has a higher rank than the our own ministers in Brunei Darussalam. That’s an interesting thought. His position will also require a lot of traveling as his capacity as the ASEAN Secretary-General. I wish you the best and congratulations for being appointed by the Brunei Government to be the ASEAN Secretary-General.

Who says that Brunei has nothing to offer especially during the holiday period? According to Yang Mulia Awang Wardi bin Hj Mohammad Ali, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Tourism), Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, there are plenty of events to look forward to and not necessarily those who are traveling during the holidays will be away for the whole of December. Hence there are enough activities for the residents of Brunei Darussalam to enjoy from late November to December 2017.

Yesterday marked the launch of the www.brunei.events, a portal and application for tourism services for the general public as well as incoming tourists to be aware of any events in Brunei Darussalam. So what kind of events will be posted? There will be events such as roadshows, exhibitions, conferences, cultural activities, festivals and workshops. Just imagine it as the Time Out version of Brunei Darussalam.

The portal which will be available soon for mobile apps is a collaboration with Brunei Tourism Board, Progresif Cellular and Mixmediaworx.

The official launch took place at the Tourism Information Centre, Galeri Sini at the Royal Wharf and it was graced by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Haji Apong, the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism.

Some of the main events lined up for December includes Brunei Film Blitz, Brunei E-Sports Tournament, Muslim Youth Camp, The Alpha Race, The Autofest, The Superwoman Run, Spotlight finals, Larian Festival Seni Belia Diri 2017, International Food Fair and not to forget the Bandarkuceria in all districts.

Wardi highlighted that this will be a yearly calendar for the upcoming Brunei December Festival. He hopes the objective of this event is to spur the growth of international tourist arrivals to Brunei Darussalam and also by having a yearly event, this will hope for a repeat participation from current vendors. Having these events in Brunei will also help to stimulate the domestic growth within the economy.

The Golden Jubilee Procession marks the glorious history of 50 years of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s reign. The historic moment is a sharing of experiences between the people as well as becoming the main focus of foreigners as well as through the broad international media coverage in bringing the procession closer to them.

The historic ceremony witnessed His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri in the procession around Bandar Seri Begawan on the Royal Carriage.

The resounding beats of the hadrah, enlivened the atmosphere of His Majesty and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri’s arrival. Five hundred combined participants from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Religious Affairs were involved in the hadrah performance.

More than 22 thousand students from 2 hundred and 16 education institutions from the Ministry of Education Ministry of Religious Affairs and private institutions, waved flags along the route from Istana Nurul Iman until the road in front of the Bandar Seri Begawan Fire Station. The involvement of the students comprising teenagers, in the celebration is a reflection of their love for the monarch.

His Majesty’s characteristic of being the People’s Monarch is difficult to be expressed in words, as His Majesty said in his titah earlier, that when the monarch is happy, hence the people too have a right to rejoice and when he is grateful, therefore the people should also be grateful. The joyousness of the celebration clearly shows the strong ties between the monarch and his subjects.

The cheerful atmosphere is visible here in the Fire and Rescue Station area in the capital, as the starting point of the Ceremonial Procession around Bandar Seri Begawan of this Grand Celebration. It is evident of the love and loyalty of the people towards the monarch and nation. Their involvement in this event enhances the noble values and nationalism towards a more glorious future and further enlivens the atmosphere of this historic occasion.

Soon upon arrival in front of the Bandar Seri Begawan Fire and Rescue Station, His Majesty and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri entered the Royal Carriage. Also present on the Royal Carriage were His Majesty’s sons and daughter, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah the Crown Prince ; His Royal Highness Prince Haji ‘Abdul ‘Azim; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah.

Inspire to Launch Masterclass Series

Written by Rano Iskandar on . Posted in community, lifestyle, Business, Social News

Shaun Hoon, the founder of Inspire magazine, will be sharing a compilation of the most powerful stories and lessons learned from the publications

Inspire will be launching the first of the 8 Masterclass Series starting Monday, 18th September, for the next 4 weeks. The organizer will be kicking off with the title on “The Art of Selling” by sharing about why the top sales professionals succeed, and interesting observations such as the similarities and differences between selling a pair of $100 shoes and a $1 million oversea property from personal experience.

The Masterclass Series will be conducted by Shaun Hoon, the founder of Inspire magazine, who will be sharing a compilation of the most powerful stories and lessons learned from the publications. According to Shaun, this is an initiative to help counter the wary mindset faced by business owners today, who are going through the current economic challenges. Shaun noted: “We can either sit there and whine about the situation, or come together to remove the scarcity mindset through education and collective thinking.”

What makes these Masterclasses unique is that unlike academic studies, they do not engage in discussing theories or hypotheticals. “Each Masterclass is guided by powerful stories of success and failures, for students to gain from the strategies that worked and learn through the lessons from prior mistakes, to level up their game.” According to Shaun.

“It is my objective to conduct these Masterclasses in a small, intimate setting to create the perfect conditions to help attendees to broaden and foster a growth mindset through two ways interactions, whilst being supported by likeminded people that will encourage and make each other accountable for succeeding.” He further added.

These Masterclasses are for the people whom the organizer describes as “the students of life”, those who want to find purpose and give meaning to their work, change the world for the better and those who are serious about lifting their games.

What attendees are expected to Learn from these Masterclasses include:

• How to be a masterful communicator.
• How successful people think and function.
• How to create business opportunities out of nothing.
• The life skills required to overcome any adversity.
• How to discover your value, and life purpose and how you can make a difference.

According to Shaun, what makes these Masterclasses valuable are not just the lessons from his own experiences, but some of the sharing of the most powerful stories and strategies used by the most successful people whom he interviewed in Brunei and around the world for Inspire magazine. Some of them includes: Robert Kiyosaki, Fan Bingbing, Marshall Goldsmith, Shila Amzah, Dato Timothy Ong and Wu Chun.

The organiser will be giving out 5 complimentary slots for each session to students and individuals who are financially strapped. You can download the full details about the Masterclasses at www.YesInspire.com/training.
