History of ISB: Did you know that ISB was founded by Datin Glass back in 1964? Datin Glass, a senior government officer’s wife, started a tutorial group for her daughter and one or two friends at her home in Jalan Perayaan. She taught them through correspondence course and it was marked by the South Australian Correspondence School.
Numbers grew rapidly and by 1970 the school was moved to a site provided by the Government of Brunei Darussalam at 34 Tapak Kuda. Numbers kept on growing and by 1974, it reached 160 students. By 1976, the school was named International School (B) Bhd and it adopted by the British education system.
By 1985, they move to the present Jalan Dato Hj Ahmad at the Berakas site which was being leased to ISB. They went through financial difficulties in maintaining the cost of the operation and they were grateful from an anonymous donor through the setting up of a trust fund under the chairmanship of Mrs. Meggie Leong. By 1993, ISB extended its education to lower secondary students.
Only in 2001, ISB reached full stature when it was authorised by the International Baccalaureate Organisation to offer their prestigious Diploma programme. In January 2013, ISB started providing full ugama curriculum.
Soon ISB will be relocated to a new 22 acre site in Kg Sungai Hanching with purpose-built buildings and facilities for a great learning and teaching experience for students and staff alike. The new campus will allow them to enhance their academic and extracurricular activities whilst being true to their green philosophy. It will also contain a large recycling collection centre and examples of sustainable energy conversation methodology in ISB’s new CARE centre.

Sentosa Spooktacular 2014
Correspondent from Singapore: 2013’s Sentosa Spooktacular was a raving success, seeing a record-high of 15,000 visitors. Thus, Sentosa Spooktacular decided to partner with Thailand’s leading movie studios, GMM Tai Hub Co. Ltd. (GTH) and produce the annual Halloween event for the next three years! So peeps, there are two weekends left to enjoy Sentosa Spooktacular.
My guest blogger Tiffany Yong had a Spooktacular experience recently
This year, the whole of Fort Silos is transformed into the thematic village of Laddaland (GTH’s 2011 award-winning horror hit movie) while seeing three haunted houses based on the movies: Countdown, Alone and The Swimmers. So it’s three movies within one movie (if you get the picture!)
The Sentosa Spooktacular Map
Welcome to Laddaland
Based on GTH’s well-received movie Laddaland; story has it that a family of four abandoned their old lives and moved into Laddaland, ready to settle down in a beautiful home they could call their own and live their dreams. All is well until they found out about the ruthless murder of a Burmese maid in their neighbour’s house. Savagely beaten, her mangled body is found stuffed inside the refrigerator. A wrongful death always results in a vengeful soul. Even the innocent ones are not spared from strange sightings and mournful cries.
Fort Siloso is now transformed into the village of Laddaland. Upon entering Laddaland, you will see rows of old houses until you reach the home of Thee , his wife Parn, his rebellious teenage daughter Nan and lively young son Nat. What seems to be a dream house in the day will turn into your darkest nightmare when night falls. As the dark village (or ex-Fort Siloso) comes to life in the wake of the night, you will start seeing the poor haunted souls who only want to have some fun (and take loads of pictures)
You can never be sure what you will find in your path…or off the path; as ghosts and ghouls play hard and work hard in bringing to you Asia’s Scariest Fun.
Countdown
Backstory: “4…3…2…1…Happy New Year!” Enter the mad house where insanity and danger come washing over you in waves. Join 3 friends – Jack, Bee and Pam, as they planned to celebrate the start of a new year in style. Lose yourself in their excitement as they wait eagerly for an acquaintance to join them for some fun. The climax draws near when their acquaintance shows up and proves to be the life of the party. However, there is just something about him that you cannot seem to put a finger on. A game master always has a game plan. Can you play the game by his rules, or will that be too much for you to handle? Encounter freak-shows and battle hallucination while you struggle to find your way out of this crazy house. With the mad man hot on your heels, can you make it out alive in this game of countdown?
Horro-o-meter: 3/5
Countdown was not exactly a horror (ghost) film, but more of a sadistic thriller which is still very scary (in my opinion). I realized that the whole experience would be scarier if you’ve actually caught the film and anticipate what might happen in each section of the trail. Countdown was the only movie of the 4 films that I’ve watched before here to see the review which made the whole experience so much more memorable as I felt as if I was going through the “ordeal” like Jack, Bee and Pam.
Alone
Backstory: You may think it is cute to have Siamese twins as next door neighbours. Conjoined at the stomach from birth, Pim and Ploy are Siamese twin sisters bounded skin-too-skin, organ-to-organ, for life. They even shared the same affection for a boy named Wee. Always the jealous one, Ploy flew into a blind rage when Wee had eyes only for Pim. Years later, Wee is seen happily married to Pim, and both are leading a decent life in South Korea…without Ploy.
Pim had survived the operation, which separated her from Ploy – the same operation which left her sister dead. Given her vicious personality, Ploy is not one to leave peacefully. Back to haunt her sister with a vengeance, she is about to make sure that her sister regrets ever being separated from her.
Help Pim to survive from the curse of a bond that runs beyond skin-deep. She has detached herself physically from Ploy, now she needs to know how to detach herself otherwise. Do not look over your shoulder, for you are never quite alone too.
Horro-o-meter: 4/5
Look out for the twin-ghosts accompanying you while queuing to enter. People with night blindness might have difficulty crawling through the dark tunnels and eerie rooms with mechanisms that will shock you if you are not careful
The Swimmers
Backstory: Perth is the school’s star swimming athlete. After a fatal accident that killed his long-time crush, Perth is devastated. He turns to the familiarity of the pool, seeking peace and solidarity in being underwater. However, the swimming pool is no longer safe; it is now haunted with ghosts of dead swimmers.
Perth begins feeling a presence next to him as he swims up and down the pool. He pauses, mid-stroke. He sees nothing, yet he feels something constantly next to him. What happens if that happens to you? You can’t see nor hear anything out of the ordinary, but you can feel them for sure. They are the cursed souls of drowned swimmers, and they are on the hunt for new victims to join them in the waters. What would you do then? Remember, you cannot scream underwater…
Horro-o-meter: (4.5/5)
Perhaps the scariest out of the 3, people with claustrophobia might be freaked out when you enter and climb through what seems like the insides of a human? The realistic human (or monster insides) and gory parts actually made my heart freeze for a moment(s), in fear of what might appear at the very end.
Review
This is a good place to walk around and enjoy yourself with the ghost without rushing. You would most likely have ample time if you arrive on time (Took me 3.5 hours without Fast Pass). I really like how each haunted house is a walkthrough into the movie with similar scenes and horribly gross reenactment. But too bad, to avoid over crowding, each ticket only allow entry to each haunted house once.
The “ghosts” are wandering around and hanging around the place where most people would be, meaning the queues and this mean your wait is not at all boring. Take loads of photos and do not try neglecting the wandering souls or you might find them eyeing on you.
If you are wondering if the reduction in the number of haunted houses will mean that it is not as value-for-money compared to the previous year (that’s what I thought initially), you are actually quite wrong. The time spent in each house is actually extended by three to four times as compared to the 2013.
Each walkthrough last about 20-30minutes, and when I go through them with my female photographer friend (who’s extremely scared of such haunted stuff), besides the screams, the words I kept hearing from her was “Why so long? Is it the end?”
P.S. The toilets are located near the entrance (by the haunted playground). Be careful of who’s knocking outside when you are doing your business!

Richard Soo, Branch Manager of ACER (Miri) shared about the Happy Weekend deal for ACER smart phones with Vincent Pao, General Manager of Concepts Computer looking on
The idea of this special promotion/gimmick is to entice everyone that mobile phones especially smart phones can be affordable. The prices of other competitive smart phones such as Samsung, HTC and Apple are in a higher end range especially those with higher specs.
I remember attending an ACER event with regards to the launch of the 5 models – Liquid Z3S, Liquid Z5, Liquid E2, Liquid S1 and Liquid S2 earlier on this year. Now ACER is having a special promotion known as the “Happy Weekend” where you can get all these models are a very affordable price. Some models are even selling half the price but the offer is only from today (Friday) to Sunday.
The plus points about the ACER smartphone are that it has what it call ACER Float where you can multitask even when you are making a phone call and you can even set specific numbers that the user can call only which is applicable when it is a company’s phone.
Do grab this opportunity of the ACER liquid smart phones at Concepts Computer, AV Audio, Dee Jay, ST Solutech and Yappe because the stocks are pretty limited. I won’t be surprised if they ran out of stock because it’s simply a super great deal to begin with. Thank you, ACER, for this opportunity.

On Saturday October 18, 2014 and Sunday October 19, 2014 athletes from Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, China and Indonesia will gather at the Multipurpose Hall of the National Stadium for Battle Royale, hosted by GETFIT CrossFit.
Brunei’s first CrossFit affiliate, GETFIT CrossFit, will be hosting 80 athletes from over 10 CrossFit affiliates at Battle Royale 2014. Battle Royale is GETFIT CrossFit’s annual competition based on CrossFit movements. Much like the CrossFit Asia Regionals, their aim is to provide a platform for local crossfitters, athletes and fitness enthusiasts to challenge and test themselves through competition. The competition will start at 8:00am until 5:00pm on both days.
GETFIT CrossFit are also extremely proud to introduce the new logo for Battle Royale. The logo consists of two ancient weapons; a “Kelasak” and two “Kampilan”. “These weapons are proudly held by officers of the Royal Regalia of our beloved Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. Both are symbols of perfection of our country’s customs and tradition which date back to before the 7th century. We have always been inspired by our culture to strive to beat the odds whatever they may be, and this logo reminds us that every athlete had to start from somewhere,” said Coach Sekhon, Head Coach, GETFIT CrossFit.
GETFIT CrossFit has been working around the clock preparing for this weekend’s event. “I am most looking forward to seeing the athletes in action!” said Coach Sekhon. When asked why the general public should come and spectate, he replied: “There is a lot of hidden talent in Brunei. You would be surprised to know what they are capable of! People are always going outside of the country to compete in fitness events. This is one where regional athletes are coming over to Brunei (some for the first time) to compete with us.”
“We are proud to host Battle Royale for all, and we will do our best to put on an amazing show for the general public. Also, the Brunei Calisthenics Group will be showcasing their talents in a demo on Sunday October 19, 2014 at 12:30pm. They are incredible in what they can do on a pull up bar!”
A number of local CrossFit athletes were interviewed about Battle Royale and what they were looking forward to: “The challenge and fun,” Nizam Bakar, graduate development trainee; “Meeting my CrossFit friends and challenging each other,” Noi Harun, quantity surveyor; “The competition – against others and myself,” Delwin Keasberry, commercial manager; “Meeting new and old friends from Brunei and beyond, and to challenging my fitness,” Boon Chu Woo, medical scientist; “To another excellent event; where people can showcase their abilities and fitness. Also, to see how far they have come from the event in 2013. It should be great for both competitors and spectators alike,” Mas Idris, IT executive director; “Competition is tough this year. I am looking forward to give my best, and most importantly to enjoy every moment of it,” Amalina Abdullah, crossfitter.
Founded in 2000 in the United States of America, CrossFit now has over 10,000 affiliated gyms around the world. GETFIT CrossFit held its first public session in December 2010, and now they now host daily exercise programmes at two locations, in Telanai and Pandan 4. For more information, visit www.getfitcrossfit.com or search GETFIT CrossFit on Instagram @getfitcrossfit and Facebook.
Battle Royale 2014 is proudly supported by the following companies: Progenex South East Asia, Strength Wraps Asia, Rock Tape Brunei, Armtrix Enterprise, Hip and Healthy, Mashhor Group of Companies, Tasconi’s Pizza, KFC Brunei, Dent Enterprises, Setia Motors Sdn Bhd, Plus+ Magazine and SSE Company.

KFC NEW CRISPIER FRIES. Verdict: Yummyyyy

“All I did was to give the wallet to my manager that I found during my cleaning duties,” she said.
The owner of the wallet, Thomas Chieng Chiew Hong, explained to The Brunei Times that he didn’t know that he had lost his wallet until the following day.
“I really appreciate her honesty and I believe that her parents as well as the company are very proud of her,” he added.
(Blood donation drive) On the sidelines, more than 40 members of the public were seen rolling up their sleeves to bleed for a good cause around the premises of The Coffee Bean as they joined in franchise’s Caring Cup blood donation drive, which started at 10am.
A representative from the blood donation bank said, “The amount of people donating is a source of encouragement and we are happy to know that members of the public are assisting in replenishing the blood supply of the national blood bank.”
First time donor Siti Iffah Hazirah Abdus Amat said that she wanted to donate blood because it will also contribute to saving the lives of accident victims and those who are about to undergo surgery.
Meanwhile, Wahidahtul Nadhirah Mirhassan, who is also a first time donor, said she realised that donors who donate regularly and voluntarily are the community’s life source.
“I have plans to donate blood in future and would like to encourage everyone who is capable to do so,” she added.
The Coffee Bean hopes that its efforts in holding such campaigns will encourage more local companies to roll up their sleeves and brave the needle to help ease the shortage of blood at the hospital. Text courtesy of Rebecca Oi of The Brunei Times and images courtesy of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

What are the chances of having two separate fire incidents happening in a space of two days? This happened two days ago at RIPAS hospital when a fire broke out at the Cardiology Centre and the fire caused damages to 12 treatment rooms. Fortunately there were no report of injuries or casualties so that’s a huge relief for everyone. A big kudos to the Fire and Rescue Department for bringing the fire under control within half an hour before it could get out of hand.
According to the press statement from The Brunei Times, The Ministry of Health said the fire did not affect the Specialist Block and all in-patient or ward services at the hospital, which opened in 1984.
I was aware of the incident as it was spreading on social media especially on Whatsapp. Yes, news in Brunei is pretty viral right now and the headline pictures that were used on The Brunei Times and Borneo Bulletin were identical and taken from Whatsapp.
Present during the examination of the site was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi Hj Osman, in his capacity as the Acting Minister of Health.
We are still unsure what sparked the fire at the Cardiology Centre but let’s hope the investigation will sort out that matter. What is important is that no one was hurt during the incident.

Have you driven a Citroën yet? I recently test drove the Citroën DS3 and I’m quite impressed with the small built car. I shall be writing about my experience of the Citroën DS3 soon on my blog.
At the moment, Citroën is running a special promotion for all those who test drive the Citroën DS3, DS4 and DS5 and you can stand a chance to win an Apple iPad Mini. For more information, you can call 245 0257 or 245 0253.
You can also visit their showroom at Grand Motors (Beribi). I have to test drive the DS4 and the DS5. Maybe pretty soon 😀 but yes, I’m already impressed with the DS3 and definitely the higher models have better power and driving experience.
Feel the drive
My recent experience while test driving the Citroën DS3. Watch out for my full review soon!!
The group shot
A spectacle of Harley motorcycles drew attention across Universiti Brunei Darussalam as the Brunei Chapter of the Harley Owners Group rode into the campus as a show of their support for breast cancer awareness on Friday. The activity was part of the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign 2014 organised by the Health Promotion Centre, Ministry of Health in collaboration with LANEIGE, in association with the international Breast Cancer Awareness Month that falls on October.
Over 20 riders came to show support for the cause with four riders from Ladies of Harley. All of the female riders, and some of the male riders, sported the signature pink ribbon t-shirts. At The Core, the riders were greeted by the student volunteers from UBD and senior lecturer from Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah (PAPRSB) Institute of Health Science, Dr Mas Rina Wati Hj Abd Hamid.
The riders, along with the volunteers, helped distribute fliers and pamphlets to the student population of UBD, visiting the Library and the Central Lecture Theatre, to help bring awareness to the 18 to 25-year-old demographic regarding breast cancer.
The roadshow will continue this week at The Mall, Atrium, from 15th October to 19th October and this is another encouraging way to increase awareness on Breast Cancer. I was recently in an event in KL with regards to WWE and I salute John Cena who is also a true ambassador in championing the Breast Awareness campaign. So guys, let’s hope support this cause and you can also purchase the exclusive pink t-shirts sold at any Laneige outlets in The Mall too.
A big shoutout to Pat Lee of LANEIGE (Brunei) and the guys from Health Promotion Centre and also UBD FM for continuing the awareness of this campaign on their social media.

Halloween Horror Night 2014
Halloween Horror Night 2014 at Universal Studios
Report from Tiffany from Singapore: Halloweeeeen from Singapore! The month of October means exams for most students, but to the rest, it means Halloween! Last year, I did a review on the Sentosa Spooktacular and many asked me to compare it with Universal Studios Singapore’s Halloween Nights. So this year, thanks to Resort World Sentosa, I managed to meet the Minister of Evil who has taken over the Halloweens Horror Nights 4 providing all horror fans with the most number of event nights, most number of haunted houses and most number of scare zones since its launch in 2011.
The official promotional video
Universal Studios Singapore will be transform on those nights into city centres, schools, arm barracks and demonic circuses to scare the hell out of everyone.
Know Thy Enemy: Plan Your Escape Route
The Map
4 Haunted Houses
1.The Lab
The Lab
This is the Secret Site of Alien Experiment on the Homo Sapien that you will see after passing through the Scary Tale zone. In the L.A.B (Laboratory of Alien Breeding], evil aliens designed to extinguish the human race are born and breed in the test tubes. Although I didn’t manage to witness the scariness, according to my other blogger friends, this is the scariest of the 4 houses with the human-alien hybrid and lab haunted-ness!
2.Mati Camp
Minister of Evil has put the sergeant Major in charge, and he takes torturing of recruits very seriously. Here, you will get to witness soldiers put through sadistic training, as well as gross cannibalism and mutilation. Are you having some lamp chops or steak for supper?
6.Jing’s Revenge
Revisiting Hua Xing Secondary School, you will get to witness how a bully victim called Jing hung herself 10 years ago, and as the horrors of the past is reenacted, you might be involved as a witness or a victim.
P.S. Beware of serious bullying case (like being splashed with water in the face)
8.Jack’s 3-Dementia
Entering the house with a paper 3D glass, you will find yourself surrounded by demonic clowns hidden in the distorting and disorientating illusions. If you are afraid of clowns, this might give you nightmares and put you to tears. If not, the illusions might make you giddy and make you walk out wondering where you are.
4 Scare Zones
A. Scary Tales
This is my favourite part of the HHN4 where well known fairy tales become scary. Besides the big bad wolf, and the evil queen, characters such as Dorothy from wizard of Oz had also become bad!
Well, do try to interact with Magic Mirror from Snow White and he might tell you who’s the fairest of you all!
B. Canyon of the Cursed
Here, the cowboys from the wild west have all transformed at night and as you walk through the cursed canyon, you might see the many dead men and women who had once rode into this land lured by the gold of the Nevuro Tribe.
P.S. They love still do love taking pictures
C. Demoncracy
Tiffany Yong with a demon
Here, you will get to meet Succubus, a demon in the form of a voluptuous women who drives her victims wild with desire while sucking out their life force. Also, look for Abaddon, the Destroyer with his bunch of demons and fallen angels released from the Abyss roaming the Earth.
D. Bogeyman
In this dark playground, be wary of the children you come across. They have long forgotten what it means to be human and will do the bidding of the Bogeyman. Relive some of your childhood horrors here and just be careful of what’s in the closet.
Recommended: Jack’s Nightmare Circus
Held at the Pantages Hollywood Theater, resident serial killer, Jack the Clown, introduces a series of aerial acrobats, contortionists and other freaky friends at his Nightmare Circus. Initially, I was amused by how un-nightmarish the whole performance was. But as the show goes on, I was wowed by how the performers go to extremes to terrify and even disgust the audience with their feats of daring and acts of torture.
My friend said that this was his favourite part of Halloween Horror Nights 4, as it was very cool to be able to watch gross sword swallowing and tongue-poking stuff taking place right in your face. An additional show at 1.15am was even added by popular demand, so I guess that says it all!
Survival Tips
A word of advice for everyone, if you are not planning to get the Express Pass (additional $50), be at Universal Studios Singapore on time (7.30pm) and plan your survival trails well! There’s simply too many fun (or scary) stuff to complete within one night. As I was trying to aim for the last train back home (at 11.50pm at Harbourfront MRT Station), I had to give some of the haunted houses and scare zones a miss!
Get yourself hydrated with some shots or brain juice! It’s available everywhere!
No Want Horror? Go For a Night Ride Then!
Besides the haunted houses and scare zones, there are still some parts of the Universal Studios untouched by the Minister of Evil such as the Far Far Away land where it is still protected by the Fair Godmother’s magical powers.
