Hougang hosts DPMM FC

Can DPMM FC continue their scoring spree momentum tonight?

DPMM FC will be gunning for their third win in a row as they will be hosted by Hougang United FC who can prove to be a tricky customer for DPMM FC. Brunei’s only professional club scored 11 goals in the last two games against two bottom teams – Courts Young Lions and Harimau Muda and they are on a scoring spree but the most important key for Steve Kean is getting another clean sheet for DPMM FC.

“We have an appetite to go and have a few more goals and the best part about our last game is the clean sheet as well. So we are very hopeful that we can get a clean sheet and get all three points,” said Kean during the interview at the Brunei International Airport before taking off to Singapore.

Kean did admit that Hougang United has cause some surprises in the S•League this season. “I have watched some of their games on DVD and they are good at putting the ball in the box and it will be a tough game.”

However, DPMM FC will be without two key players – Rosmin Kamis (Bobby) and Sairol Sahari who scored in the last game. According to Kean, Bobby should be back for the following game next week as he was being rested, recovering from two calves strains. Sairol will be rested for some tight strain on his hip.

Kean is ready to hand Azwan Salleh and Hendra, their first start of the season, replacing the positions of Sairol and Bobby respectively. The head coach is confident of Bobby’s replacement, Hendra, and he has shown some maturity while coming off the bench in the past few matches. This will be a big game for Hendra indeed.

Rodrigo Tosi will prove to be a huge threat as he has already bagged seven goals this season. He shared how the squad this season was very much different from his previous stints and one point that he highlighted was the mentality of his team mates that has made the difference. The Brazilian is also wary of Hougang’s improvements this season and he will do his best to bring in three points for DPMM FC and of course, add to his goal tally.

Hougang United FC will host DPMM FC tonight at Hougang Stadium, Singapore. You can catch some live updates on their Twitter and instagram handle @officialdpmmfc

Parents excited for ISB campus

The Minister of Education and The Minister of Development with the Board of Directors of ISB, management of ISB and students of ISB at the groundbreaking ceremony of ISB new campus at Kg Sg Hanching

The Minister of Education and The Minister of Development with the architect, consultants and contractors of the new ISB campus

The comments have been flourish on my social media after my posting of the recent graphics of the newly proposed green building of ISB campus at Sg Hanching. By August 2015, ISB will relocated their school to the new proposed area. The exact location is along Jalan Utama Salambigar, Kg Sg Hanching and it is pretty big, a 22-acre site.

I remember a few years ago of the rumours that ISB can be relocated as the current land belongs to the another ministry if I’m not mistaken. Now it’s a reality after a groundbreaking ceremony a few days ago officiated by two of our ministers – Minister of Education, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong and the Minister of Development, Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, who poured concrete cement into the foundation of the new ISB campus.

You may seen ISB’s branding as being eco-friendly and always giving back to the community and I was pleased that ISB’s new campus uses the green concept to reduce the usage of energy and water while creating a more conducive and healthier environment for the teachers, students and parents.

The whole project itself costs in the region of BND 30 million and it’s being financed by Baiduri Bank (Oh yeah, if you wanna apply for home loans, Baiduri Bank can help finance you too). The architect of the project is handled by Arkitek Rekajaya; Civil & Structural Consultants is Adwan & Associates Chartered Engineers; Mechanical & Electrical Consultant is Sepakat Setia Perunding; Earthwork Consultant also is done by Sepakat Setia Perunding; Quantity Surveyor is MRBC Partnership; Main Building Contractor is Walltique Sdn Bhd and Mechanical & Electrical Contractor is DHJ Electrical Sdn Bhd.

Both ministers were pretty impressed with the current project and they hope that more schools will adapt the concept of a greener environment even on a smaller scope.

I will see if I’m able to get more snippets during the progress of the construction over a period of time.

Power up your Acer phones

For many senior citizens, getting to grips with smartphone technology can sometimes be problematic as the small on-screen text is often difficult to read and the multitude of features and functions can lead to mistakes.

Concepts Computer Sdn Bhd has taken steps to solve the problem by introducing five different Acer smartphone models, and anyone over the age of 50 purchasing a smartphone from the company will be entitled to a special gift – a Starius 2,600mAH power-bank, which comes in a variety of colours including electric blue and striking black.

In addition to this, students and teachers providing valid identification will be able to acquire the same deal.

Check out the Acer Liquid Z3s which only costs BND 158 and for a limited time, you can purchase any of the Acer smartphones and get a FREE Starius power bank (applicable to senior citizens, students and teachers)

First on the list is the affordable Acer Liquid Z3s dual core 1GHz Android smart-phone priced at $158. The Z3s includes a Senior Mode which comes optimised for senior citizens with features such as magnification, quick call contacts and radio.

These simple modes are also designed for children as the range of “Quick Mode” options available on the Z3s makes this a great first time smart-phone with parent restrictions and security locks.
Next on offer is the Acer Liquid Z5, available for the price of $238 for 512MB or $288 for 1GB. Despite its budget price, the Z5 is a smart-looking smartphone as pictures and videos are clearly portrayed in its large five-inch display. Favourite applications and camera function are also easily launched from the home screen. This model sports a front-facing high performance speaker that has clear audio, equipped with DTS sound which plays tracks beautifully.

The next model on offer is the Acer Liquid E2, priced at $328, which has an elegant curved design with a large 4.5-inch HD screen and a camera that has a zero shutter delay that allows users to take up to eight pictures per second. This model also comes with dual metal speakers and wide stereo width enhancement for users needing an entertainment smartphone on-the-go.

Meanwhile, the Acer Liquid S1, a perfect business smartphone, is priced at $498 and has a large 5.7-inch HD display and features the zero-air-gap design. The model comes with office applications such as Acer Docs and Acer Remote Files for that spur-of-the-moment presentation.

Last but not least is the high-end Acer Liquid S2, available for $848, which has a 6-inch Full HD display with IPS technology. The phone sports a 13 MP, f/2.2 camera that captures breathtaking 27 MP panoramic images and records videos in 4K Ultra HD2. Users can also experience a 5.1 channel virtual sound on headphones when using the phone and the intuitive graphical tuner will adjust sounds to preferred sound quality.

Concepts Computer Marketing Executive Zul Abdul Rahman said that the special deal is the beginning of a great expansion for the company, with hopes of aiding older citizens in Brunei as well as fulfilling the needs of consumers such as teachers and students.

Skechers now opens

at Seria

Catching up with the owner of GL Extra Enterprise, the sole distributor of Skechers, over dinner at iLotus. Thanks for hosting us 😀 Image courtesy of Ikhwan Salleh of The Brunei Times.

The management of Skechers Brunei with the local media
Thank you to Mr. Lim Kwee, the owner of Skechers Brunei for hosting us media for dinner the other night. He’s also the owner of GL Extra Enterprise that handles the leading outdoor camping store in Brunei Darussalam. Our dinner was held at a iLotus Restaurant and Mr. Lim’s intention was to simply appreciate the media for their contribution in spreading awareness on Skechers shoes and products.

Mr. Lim was happy to unveil the second outlet of Skechers at Plaza Seria in Seria which was opened to business since yesterday. The third branch will be somewhere in Kuala Belait.

The new store in Seria aims to target the niche market for the occupational industry shoes, owing to the large population of oil and gas workers living in Belait. This is a strategic area since many customers are from KB and Seria.

Since its opening in the final quarter of 2013, Skechers Brunei have been doing exceptional well because it’s a well known brand and also people have been commenting on its comfort.

Skechers ranges from casual to sports type so do check their GOwalk, GOrun and GObionic range. It’s good to see Skechers spreading its foothold in Brunei and the response has been favourable.

RB flies to Bali 😀

The news that caught people’s attention

Flying four times a week. Not bad, not bad 😀

Wow, after a long, long hiatus, this is very good news for Brunei travelers. Royal Brunei Airlines, Brunei’s national air carrier, will resume its direct flights to Bali, Indonesia, by 26th July 2014. This is indeed a very positive move and the comments on social media have been favourable. Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) has been going through major changes ever since its rebranding programme and I remember the Dermot Mannion, Deputy Chairman of RB, hinted of more routes as part of their strategic expansion as well as meeting demands of customers.

So how many times they will fly? I believe it stated that it will fly four times a week. The flights will operate by an Airbus A319.

The flights from BSB to Bali, BI757 departs at 8.55 pm and will arrive at 11.20 pm on Tuesday,Wednesday,Saturday and Sunday. Flights from Bali to BSB, BI758 departs at 7.10 am and arrives 9.40 am on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. For now, you can’t book on flybruneiair.com but you can inquire on your preferred travel agents. I’m pretty sure RB will have special promotions for this new route.

Royal Brunei Airlines was established in 1974 and is wholly owned by the government of Brunei. RB started with an initial fleet of two aircraft, serving Singapore, Hong Kong, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. Royal Brunei Airlines now operates a fleet of 10 aircraft to 14 destinations in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Australia. RB is the Boeing 787 Dreamliner’s launch airline in Southeast Asia and with the recent deliveries of Dreamliners, Royal Brunei will have the distinction of operating the youngest long haul fleet in the world.

Royal Brunei Airlines won ‘Best Foreign Airline’ award in the category “Award For Best Airlines” at the Sabah Tourism Awards 2011. Last year, Brunei’s flag carrier won the Metro Time Shanghai Award for their Reader’s Airline of Choice and The Best Airline Provider from The European Asia.

Thank you RB for making this possible and it’s perhaps the best highlight moment after yesterday’s derailing topic that went viral (not RB related but I think you guys know what I mean). Below are just some of the images from my previous Bali trip back in 2012 and 2013. I will be heading again to Bali scheduled for November 2014. Who knows I might make another early trip before then.

My last trip last year August 2013 with my #superfriends buddies

This was at Potato Head. Highly recommended place to chill.

This was taken at the temple area. This was back in November 2012.

One of the activities I enjoyed was water rafting. Pure fun but it was quite a fair ride.

I managed to borrow this sign

I didn’t give a good impression since I thought it was easy to ride a scooter. I was struggling indeed and it’s super darn cheap to rent a bike there too. It was like $5 for 3 days but I only needed half an hour just to get a feel of it. Scary but scary fun 😀

My buddies whom I flew with back in 2012. We stayed at Maya Ubud and I truly love the place there. Quite remote and loads of green.

The villa rooms are quite common in Bali and the prices are quite reasonable as well.

3 in a trot

The highlights of last night’s game between Hougang United FC and DPMM FC

Hougang United FC 0

DPMM FC 3

Steve Kean wasn’t happy with the performance despite the three points. He felt DPMM FC didn’t play well in the first half and judging from the video I watched, DPMM FC could have been down by at least two goals if it wasn’t for the poor finishing of Hougang United FC. The home side were putting crosses and causing DPMM FC problems in the first half and Kean admitted that they were quite fortunate to go into the break with a clean sheet.

He did give a good point that championship team sometimes don’t play to their maximum but they still get the three points and last night’s game was a great example.

DPMM FC had a better second half and they could have scored a few more too. It was good to see new faces from the bench getting time on the pitch especially Najib Tarif and Helmi Zambin. Perhaps the highlight of the game was Azwan Ali’s rare header that brought all the three points courtesy of a wonderful cross by substitute Najib in the 77th minute.

The match was already delayed at Hougang United FC due to heavy rain prior to the match and it would be a nightmare for defenders especially goalkeepers due to the wet conditions. A big shout out again to DPMM FC defence and Wardun in goal for salvaging the important clean sheet.

DPMM FC’s top scorer Rodrigo Tosi was unfortunate not to score late in the first half with a cheeky lob but his effort just missed wide of the open goal. Roy O’Donovan’s effort were being saved by Nazri Sabri in goal.

The home side Hougang United FC have themselves to blame for not taking their chances. DPMM FC now have leapfrogged Tampines Rovers FC by a point though the defending champions have one game in hand.

DPMM FC were missing two key players – Captain Rosmin Kamis who is being rested for calf injury while Sairol Sahari had to rest after a hip strain and both should be back in next week’s home game. It is not a good run for Hougang United FC who just came off a loss against Geylang International FC after conceding three late goals. Hougang United FC have proved to be a threat in the league with their new signings and I won’t be surprised if Hougang United end up in the top three this season.

Great job to the lads as well as the head coach and the team management in rebuilding DPMM FC from last season. It’s always a great feeling to be on top. Keep it up!! Some of the images below are courtesy of Alson Ong.

ISB gets new location

I shall be posting more stories about the recent groundbreaking ceremony for the $30 million green campus at Sg Hanching. The event was attended by two ministers – Education and Development. I can’t wait for this campus to be completed. It’s most likely to be completed by August 2015. Thank you, ISB, for the invitation and more news on this groundbreaking ceremony tomorrow. Below are some of the pictures taken from yesterday’s event.

Chris Woo nails it again

Chris Woo, a lecturer in UBD, posing with the trophy he won for the International Speech Contest in the D87 Division K, while his toastmasters buddies join in celebration at Lahad Datu, Sabah. Image taken from Facebook.

I saw Chris Woo presented his International Speech a few weeks ago in the Toastmasters competition among the four local clubs (toastmasters related) in Brunei Darussalam and he was superb in his delivery. From there, I know I see a winner and he can do Brunei proud with his public speaking talent. Brunei alone has many impressive speakers with the likes of Shawn Narcis, Rozana Yunos, Zainal Bostaman, Clovis Lai and Stuart Lee to name a few. I was also impressed with Fen Ng whom we kinda introduced her to join the Brunei Speakers Club and whoa, she really excelled to greater heights and I have seen so much growth especially in her confidence. I used to be a member of the Brunei Speakers’ Club but now inactive but still a strong supporter for it. I even broke my promise that I would at least complete my first speech as a member but didn’t commit to it *guilty*

Anyway, the highlight of this post is the great achievement by Chris Woo who won the International Speech category in the D87 Division K contest at Lahad Datu, Sabah. He represented Brunei in that category after winning the previous contest among the local toastmasters club in Brunei. This is his biggest achievement to date and now he will represent the Division K at the District 87 International Speech Contest on 11th May 2014 at Surabaya, Indonesia. Well done mate and I wish you to excel further and gain more experience internationally. You definitely have inspire many youths and others including myself to take that leap of faith in believing ourselves.

The match for the ages

Stevie G was pretty emotional after the match and truly deserve to lift the trophy if you ask me
Billed as one of the most important matches in Liverpool’s history, Steve Gerrard showed up at his highest as he led his team to a 3-2 victory over title contenders Manchester City. Whoever win this tie, it will be their title to lose. The victory was Liverpool’s 10th consecutive one and it has been 24 years since Liverpool carry the League title. With four matches left, another strong contender is Chelsea who will have to play away to Liverpool in two weeks’ time. That perhaps could be the title decider. With Chelsea playing extra games in the Champions League, this is an advantage to Liverpool who will benefit from extra days rest.

I caught this match last night with Terence Han at Coffee Zone and while my buddy remained calmed, my heart was racing inside as it was anybody’s game judging from the performance from both sides. Despite Liverpool having a 2-0 goal cushion with Man City’s Toure taken off due to injury, the visitors pulled the game back to in level terms and dominated the second half. It was also the first time Terence heard me swearing *lol* as I was cursing on the Liverpool players for being sloppy especially Sakho who looked shaky in defence and giving away possession cheaply.

Vincent Kompany had a torrid time as all the Liverpool goals was his to blame. He was wrong footed by Sterling as the Liverpool ace cheekily scored from the little gap. The second goal was off a corner and Kompany lost his marked man Skrtel who headed home. Liverpool’s third goal was gifted by Kompany who fluffed a simple clearance and Coutinho came out from no where to blast home Liverpool’s winning goal.

There you go. A summary of one of the best matches if not the best of the season. Man City still have six games to play compared to Liverpool’s four. Thank you, Brendan Rodgers in believing in the squad and it’s good to see a few English players too (Johnson, Flanagan, Henderson, Gerrard, Sturridge and Sterling) and not rely too much on foreign talent.

This season will go down to the wire and the title race is still wide open. For now, it’s Liverpool’s title to lose. Let’s make us dream.

The Liverpool fans were at the edge of their seats from start to the end

Terence was my bromance partner for the night. Though he’s a Gunners fan, he wanted Liverpool to lift the trophy.

Sukan Ria 2014

Company employees and their families can have a fun and rewarding (in many senses of the word) time participating in the hiking activities to be held at the Tasek Lama Recreational Park starting at 6 am on Sunday 27 April as part of this year’s Sukan Ria Antara Syarikat.

Company employees interested to take up the 4.2 km hiking challenge event can sign up to be in the running to win attractive cash prizes for the first three men and three women to cross the finish line.

Happening at the same time will be the aptly-named Fun Hike which will stretch 3 km for men and 2 km for women, and is open to both company employees and their family members.

A lucky draw will be held after the hikes giving all participants the chance to go home with fabulous prizes.

Company employees are invited to participate in the Sukan Ria Antara Syarikat basketball tournament that will tip off on 27 April at the Batu Bersurat Indoor Basketball Court.

The winning team will receive a B$2,000 cash prize, a challenge trophy, medals and trophy. A cash prize of B$1,000 will go to the runner-up team, and third place is rewarded with B$500, with medals and trophies going to both teams.

Teams can import up to three players from another company, allowing teams that would otherwise have insufficient numbers of players to participate in the fun. Being able to bring in talent from another company will also strengthen some teams, which should make for some exciting showdowns.

Registration forms along with the rules and official guidelines can be obtained at D’Sunlit Sdn Bhd in Beribi during office hours or at the official Sukan Ria website at www.sukanriabrunei.com. Completed forms must be received by 5pm on 15 April.

For more information, visit the official website or contact the Marketing Department at D’Sunlit Sdn Bhd via telephone at 2453666 or e-mail event@dsunlit.com

More facelift projects

Newly-planted tree saplings at Tasek Lama Recreational Park. Image courtesy of Abdul Azim Kassim of The Brunei Times.

Good to know that the government agencies are doing facelift at recreational places. Recently we had the Serasa Beach facelift which has been getting positive comments from the public. So next is the Silver Jubilee Park and Tasek Lama Recreational Park. I haven’t really explore the Silver Jubilee Park but more on Tasek Lama for my morning walks which I have been neglecting too *lol*

According to the article from The Brunei Times, a jetty, a gazebo and surveillance cameras will be budgeted for the Silver Jubilee Park. The Minister of Home Affairs paid a visit to both these locations yesterday and he believes in restoring the recreational parks even if they are minor ones. The purpose of this upgrade is to make the recreational environment more conducive for the comfort and peace of visitors.

At Tasek Lama Recreational Park, resting house improvements were made, specifically the resting house near the waterfall. An ongoing improvement that was being made in the park was the reinforcement of a jungle track. The jungle track was built with concrete underneath, ensuring pathways would not deteriorate quickly. ISB Art exhibition

The ISB Art Exhibition last weekend at Kaleidoscope Art Gallery

I love art and enjoy watching installation and art pieces. Maybe today I will head over to see pieces and art installation of at the UBD Spectacle 2014 at the Art Gallery, Chancellor Hall. Today I will briefly shared about ISB’s art exhibition at the Kaleidoscope Art Gallery in Kiulap last weekend. I missed this event actually as it slipped my mind but great job to the students for Year 13 who are graduating from the International Baccalaureate (IB) course.

According to the article in The Brunei Times, The artworks ranged from digital photography, paintings on canvas and sculpture. One of the unique works was by Aneesah Zulfina. Titled ‘Bateman’s Gridlock’, the piece, which took her four hours to complete, was made from 200 rubic cubes that were sponsored by WW Mart.

Art teacher Christopher Hoddinott said that the exhibition was a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their efforts.

ISB student, Nur Fatin Farhana Md Jafaar, told TheBrunei Times that she felt very proud to be able to have her artworks showcased as “an exhibition is a pinnacle for every aspiring artists, new and existing.”

Too bad the art exhibition only lasted a few days. Well done, anyway, to the Year 13 students and good luck in your assessment 🙂 Below are some pictures taken from ISB and Kaleidoscope Facebook.

The Long Month

It’s great to be back again but not dreading for work. I have countless piles of work pending and I don’t even know where to begin with. Probably an assistant would have suffice. I tend to be freer whenever I’m abroad and I feel under pressure whenever I’m in Brunei. Some even suggested that I get a PR status in Singapore since I was born there too. Singapore was fun. My trip was shy of a fortnight and I had a splendid time with my family especially my mom who is recovering from a minor surgery. I was also there in Singapore to celebrate her birthday earlier this week before I head back home.

A few highlights for me was the Earth Hour in Singapore, the release of the Adidas FX Flux in Singapore (though there is a big downside to that) and also the quick sneaks of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hosted by Sony Pictures (Singapore). And of course, I was able to catch up with a few of my buddies in Singapore too. I shall be making another trip back if time permits and I hope to be there in time for the exclusive premiere of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 before it will be released the following week.

I have yet to settle here back in Brunei and I’ve been spending more time catching on my deprived rest. I know this myself that I need to organise my things to get back in shape. I’m also pretty behind in my fitness level as I have registered for the 21km race for Sundown, end of May, in Singapore. So there are many things under my checklist before mid year kicks in and time has been flying pretty fast I must say. The other guilty thing(s) that I’m aware of are my resolutions for 2014 which I pledged for myself on 1st January 2014. I would say that I’m only 2% on it and this is already mid April *lol* Talk about commitment, aye? I hope my baby steps can give a much needed boost to get me going for my resolution.

I recently attended the BIT Council meeting and I learnt quite a few things that were shared among the members of the BIT Council. This actually stands for Brunei Information Technology Council and it’s spearheaded by the Minister of Communications. We recently were given a book which has a case study on Brunei’s indices rating on technology and it is being reported that we are pretty far behind when it comes to affordability. Many of us have questioned the credibility of the findings as it contradicts the predicted patterns of the consumer ends side of the things. Perhaps there wasn’t much explanation given in-depth on the findings and I believe the government have spend quite on a fortune on it too.

Recent weeks have been challenging indeed. Making new friends, reconciling ones and sustaining the closer ones. I have learnt the different types of characters that I’ve gone through and it was also a great reflection of myself too. Despite the awareness that I have, the choices I have made may not be favourable in the eyes of some. I have yet to reach my highest self and give myself a kick in the butt that I can do better. My connections with my trusted ones have been haywire to say the least. I have probably judged my own being too and allow others to judge my well being and actions. For now, it’s a rebuilding journey ahead. Lessons after lessons with many distractions along the way. Well, that’s how life is, right?

I’m gonna enjoy my Sunday and recover back from my sleepy eyes. Have a great Sunday, peeps!!!

Oh, below are some of the photos that I felt like sharing with your guys.

During my mom’s birthday earlier this week. Thank you, mom, for being a great provider to the family and continuously supporting us since Day 1. I surprised her with some flowers I bought from Takashimaya. Though there aren’t as big as others but this small gesture has more meaning and it was the first time I actually handed a bouquet of flowers to my mom personally 😀

Yazid Yakub what sapped me this picture earlier this afternoon and I wept a little seeing this photo. It shows how much I missed my high school years back in Geelong Grammar School, Victoria, Australia. Yesterday there was our class reunion on 94’ and sadly, I wasn’t able to join Yazid and the rest down under. The picture was taken during our final year prom night to mark the end of our high school years. Thank you for the memories 😀

A nameless soft toy given to me by @lilmopiko @timelessrealm. I have no idea why I was so attached to this toy and I carried with me wherever I went. Not until my trip to Penang in 2012, I lost it and till today, I couldn’t let go that feeling of attachment. Many lessons can be learnt here.

A match that I didn’t bother to catch live on TV but just rely on social media for updates. This was the rematch between Manny and Bradley and the Filipino managed to avenge his defeat by an unanimous decision. This is a great shot by the way.

Some billed this as a title decider. I think not. There are still plenty of points to play for. Should Liverpool beat Manchester City and Chelsea this month, it’s a high possibility the title could be virtually Liverpool’s. The season hasn’t been this exciting for many years as it has become a three horse race.

I tried these Burger King’s Drummets and I was impressed. It’s available now at our local franchise store at Bandar

I caught Wrestlemania and my reactions were pretty mixed. I love the finale though but the saddest part is to see The Undertaker’s streak to end by Brock Lesnar. Then again, it has to happen one day and Brock is a much better candidate to do so. Hulk Hogan didn’t do much to host Wrestlemania so I don’t see why the big hype. By the way, I had to fork out USD 60 for the PPV as I was watching it on WWE.com on my notebook.

These wireless Jabra earpieces are awesome especially for my runs. The only problem which can be annoying is when it’s trying to pair with my phone device. It may take some time to detect. A few days ago, I accidentally left these earpiece on the McDonald’s tray at Singapore. There goes my Jabra piece. How careless of me!!!

Great deals for those purchasing the Acer Smartphones at Concepts Computer. If you are senior citizen or even a teacher or a student, you can now get these Acer smartphones and you will be given a 2600 mAH powerbank (while stock lasts). Pretty cool, aye? So do drop by Concepts Computer and check them out. I shall be writing more on these special promotion by tomorrow. Stay tune!!

Chef Cathy from Royal Brunei Catering was participating in the recent FHA 2014 Culinary Challenge. She didn’t win in her category but she really enjoyed the experience. Her colleague Chef Ahmad bagged Silver Medal under the “Class 3B Pastry Showpiece”. RBC sent 8 chefs to compete in the Culinary Challenge recently held in Singapore.

There was quite a crowd at the recent FHA2014 held at the Singapore Expo. My feet were aching just walking through most of the halls. There were 10 halls altogether. Apparently those who attended previous FHA events said that there weren’t much difference.

Finally it rained in Singapore after weeks of dry spell. I’m also sporting my current favourite walking shoes too – Adidas FX Flux though I’m still bummed out that I missed out the Prism Flux edition.

I bumped into an old friend at the Changi Airport and she was transiting from her Umrah trip via Singapore. We kinda have matching head covers 😀

BIBD presentation for the final monthly “Barakah 5” winners presented by Caitlina Hj Haliluddin, Assistant Managers of Products & Segments, BIBD. Each of the winners received 100,000 Hadiah Points. The winners will join all the previous monthly winners for the grand prize of the Jaguar XF.

There will be a garage sale today. From 9am to 2pm. Venue: Simpang 38 House No. 22 Jalan Chempaka. Call 8989132 for details. Expect some toys, books, home decor and many more. The earlier the better. Who knows you will find some classic gems 😀

My podcast review of The Grand Budapest Hotel with my co-host Del Goh. Guess our movie prediction for this movie. It’s showing now at The Mall Cineplex

The UBD Spectacle 2014 is here.. I shall be paying this a visit pretty soon 😀

Fiona the podiatrist was trimming my new customized insole for my running Adidas shoes and thank you so much for the great service. I shall talk about this soon and share with you my experience at The Sole Clinic at SOHO2, Singapore. I would definitely recommend you to try this place if you have problems with your feet or leg especially for runners.

The interesting phenomena that took Brunei by storm. This was the most trending picture last Tuesday. This image belongs to Rachael Yeo 😀

If you happen to be in Singapore, do visit Pasarbella. Interesting place with

Such a sad news to know that the Ultimate Warrior passed away. He was just on Wrestlemania 30 and came on RAW and passed away a day later. He is definitely a legend superstar for WWE and it was good to see him being inducted in the Hall of Fame

Another friend I bumped into in Singapore and we did a quick shopping at Zara. Happy belated Aziimah 😀

Mom bought a stack of this iTunes card at Qisahn at Far East Shopping Centre, Orchard Road. A USD 15 card only costs BND 20. Good deal, aye?

I miss this place already. This was my regular jogging spot at the Singapore Botanics Garden. The only place that I can appreciate nature and the green while burning my calories. The swing does bring some childhood memories.

#YesYesYes

Written by Rano Iskandar. Posted in DPMM FC

Yes! Yes! Yes!

Yes! Yes! Yes! were the chants as DPMM FC steamrolled past basement club Harimau Muda in the S•League at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium last night. Steve Kean, DPMM FC’s head coach, was very proud of his lad for not just scoring but also keeping a clean sheet which they failed to do in the past three games.

DPMM FC welcomed back Subhi Abdillah in right back position and Aziz Tamit has been giving a first team role for the past few games taking over Shahrulrizal’s defensive duties and he has been adapting quite well and a great support to Boris Raspudic who has been ruthless in defence as well.

The 5-0 victory put DPMM FC back to the summit and amazingly, DPMM FC has scored 19 goals in the past seven games. A big shout must go the the 12th man which were the fans that turned up last night and it was perhaps the biggest attendance on home soil this season.

It was a pity that Harimau Muda had to face DPMM FC who are on a hot streak and the visitors are still chasing for a point in the 12-team competition. They were unfortunate when Azrun Nizam was given his marching orders for a professional foul on Roy O’Donovan which I thought was a bit harsh. However, I thought that didn’t affect the gameplay as DPMM FC already had a 3-0 goal cushion prior to the sending off.

Sairol Sahari who just celebrated his birthday two days ago was on the score sheet and he was very pleased with his performance and the goal was a belated birthday gift for him. He also thanked Joe Gamble for helping him through the injury recovery he has been sustaining.

It was good to see Roy O’Donovan scoring a brace once again and it shows what an important acquisition the club has made on the striker who is still recovering from a thumb injury. Rodrigo Tosi scored the 4th goal in the match after the red card incident and it was a great set piece of a free kick which, I believed, paid off from training. Tosi was doubtful earlier in the week with a calf strain but he managed to last 70 minutes on the pitch before being replaced by Shahrazen Said.

Shahrazen has yet to find the net but with more field presence, I am confident he will break his duck. Shahrazen, who has been DPMM FC’s top scorer in the past few seasons, has been giving the bench role as the partnership of Donovan and Tosi have been fruitful and promising. This shows the depth that DPMM FC squad has and this can prove to be an important difference as the season goes by.

“We showed tonight that we gave them all the respect but we are trying to impress by going higher up the pitch and get an early goal and the most important of us is to get a clean sheet. The defence starts from the front (Roy and Rodrigo) where they have to close the ball down enough and we have done that really well,” said Steve Kean.

He was still questioning himself to why the pace was slightly slower than the first half and maybe he said it could have been the sending off the middle of the second half. He instructed his players to keep switching play to tire their opponents and the tactic works.

DPMM FC now will face Hougang United FC in their next match. Hougang United broke Tampines Rovers undefeated streak last week but had a shock upset against Geylang International FC last night despite leading 2-0. Can DPMM FC carry their momentum when they face Hougang next week? We shall see.

Can DPMM FC repeat

the same performance?

This is it. After a fresh win from Courts Young Lions with a 6-1 score line, DPMM FC is in high mood and they won’t be taking Harimau Muda very lightly indeed despite the visitors being on the basement of the S•League.

DPMM FC can be back on top should they win tonight against Harimau Muda but league leaders Tampines Rovers will have a game in hand.

DPMM FC coach Steve Kean is gunning for all three points and also a clean sheet. Kean was disappointed on how DPMM FC were unlucky to concede against Courts Young Lions through a deflection but he feels defiant that DPMM FC will step up a gear and aim for a clean sheet tonight at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium.

He won’t be taking any team for granted even Harimau Muda. “If we don’t start properly like in our last match, the other team can score and make it difficult for us. I’m confident that we will get all three points after the way we finished last Sunday,” shared Kean during the interview.

“We need to get a clean sheet. We need to get back to where we were the first three games. We already know we can create chances and score goals. It is not just Wardun (keeper) and the back four, everybody needs to think like a defender once we lose possession and put pressure.”

Fans will be delighted to see the return of Subhi Abdillah who was missing from the last game due to a minor injury. Rodrigo Tosi was doubtful earlier this week but he managed to shake off the injury and he will be fit for tonight’s match as well. Tosi has instrumental in DPMM FC’s surge to the top with a few goals under his belt.

Will any of them be featured in the match tonight? I believe so 😀

Harimau Muda B coach Razip Ismail hopes his team won’t suffer the same fate as Courts Young Lions. He urged his team to double the efforts and just simply avoid any embarrassment and do not show fear to their opponents.

Did you know that Harimau Muda has conceded 17 goals in 6 games as compared to DPMM FC’s 4 goals? Many fans have predicted a comprehensive victory but this kind of games can be very tricky indeed. A point for the visitors will definitely put a smile on their faces. Harimau Muda has yet to earn a single point after six matches.

Tonight DPMM FC will take on Harimau Muda at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium and there will be another lucky draw for the supporters who will watch the match tonight especially those with $5 and $8 ticket. The first prizes will be an air fare for one to Kuala Lumpur and Indonesia and 8 consolation prizes. The winners will be announced at half-time of the match tonight.

The collapsed roof at station

Motorists looking to fill their petrol tanks at a station in Berakas were shocked when part of the station’s roof collapsed over a parked vehicle yesterday morning.

When queried by The Brunei Times, the petrol station’s manager said they had discovered the roof structure to be “out of place” the day before. Tajuddin, manager of Taib Delima Retail Station said that upon realising the situation, the part of the station that houses three pump booths was shut down. Contractors were then contacted to assess the damage and carry out necessary repairs today. He added that business would carry on as usual as other areas of the station were unaffected and did not pose any hazards.

An apology from Brunei Shell Marketing (BSM) was issued yesterday with a statement notifying the public that no injuries or damages were sustained by any other persons or vehicles aside from what was reported. The station will be temporarily closed until further notice for repair and renovation works. Further enquiries can be directed to the BSM hotline at 2244739.

DPMM FC run wild

on the Lions

DPMM FC’s line up last night against Courts Young Lions at Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium. Image courtesy of @ahmad_ajeeb
It was a one-sided affair last night at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium as DPMM FC came back to winning ways in the expense of Courts Young Lions, Singapore U-23 team. The odds were heavily against the Young Lions as they have yet to register a win in five games prior to the match.

The drizzle didn’t cause much problem for DPMM FC’s gameplay but it didn’t turn out well for the visitors who let in 6 goals and handed DPMM FC, one of their biggest victory in the S•League.

Steve Kean was already wary of the Under-23 and he felt it will be a challenging match as the Lions were out there to prove a point. They stole a point at Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium last season so they would want to better their efforts.

However, the quality of DPMM FC was too much for the depleted Lions who were missing two key players.

Young Lions had a shocking lead through Sherif El-Masri in the 23rd minute through a deflection and that somehow was the final threat that the Young Lions had on DPMM FC’s Wardun Yussof.

Roy O’Donovan, DPMM FC marquee player, scored his first goals on home soil with a brace despite nursing an injured thumb. His team mate Rodrigo Tosi scored a brace as well, followed by goals from Roberto Alviz and Azwan Ali.

Azwan became the first home grown player to score for DPMM FC this season and it was the icing on the cake as he scored in injury time to make it 6-1.

The win put DPMM FC back to second spot in the S•League, two points behind league leaders Tampines Rovers who suffered their first loss of the season against Hougang United a few days ago.

DPMM FC head coach didn’t expect a flurry of goals as DPMM FC registered the largest marginal win this season. Steve Kean shared the goal difference can be very important in the near future.

He was happy that DPMM FC took their chances as compared to previous matches where they failed to make their chances count and dropped points.

Aide Iskandar, Courts Young Lions head coach, was very confident prior to the match but reality sunk in as his players couldn’t cope with the pressure as DPMM FC went on attack mode till the final whistle.

DPMM FC will now take on Harimau Muda, basement team in the S•League, this Friday at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium.

Check out our podcast for our experience at GX MAX 3D while catching the first 15 minutes of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hosted by Sony Pictures Singapore

Well, I won’t say that we show the whole movie but I managed to be invited by Sony Pictures (Singapore) as the bloggers from Singapore and I were invited to a press sneak preview of the first 15 minutes of Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. So, of course, I won’t be spoiling to you guys what we saw. Some scenes were more elaborated from the trailers that we are familiar with.

What blew me off is Golden Village Cinema (GVC) GV MAX 3D experience. It’s not the IMAX version but it’s the 3D experience that I enjoyed so much. This may sound cliche but the 3D format for the sequel is “AMAZING”. I can’t wait to come here again for the special premiere later this month at Golden Village Cinema at Vivo City.

A big shout out to Tiffany for recommending me and also to Sony Pictures Singapore for the special invitation. I’m truly honoured and I also get to meet other local bloggers from Singapore. One interesting blogger I met was Rachel who is a music blogger who covers on concerts and music in general and another was Hisham, a blogger who blogs about tech stuff and arts, well, mostly tech stuff.

Anyway, do listen to my latest podcast on our take on the characters as well as the experience at the Golden Village Cinema’s GV Max theatre powered by dolby Atmos Surround Sound.

Behind the scenes: RP

I have always wondered how it is behind the scenes at Royal Plaza on Scotts, a hotel that has been around for 40 years and still growing strong. Today it’s running on full capacity and apparently it has been in this state for many weeks already. This just shows that Royal Plaza on Scotts is one of the most sought hotels among travelers and this is also a favourite hotel among Bruneians.

Last week I had the privilege to tour around the work place area of Royal Plaza on Scotts and I was impressed how this prestigious hotel take care of their associates in the hotel. Thank you, Julian, for the tour and I finally get to meet the General Manager of Royal Plaza on Scotts, Patrick Fiat who has been part of the hotel since 1998.

One of the rooms that that caught my eye was the CHILLAXLOUNGE where the staff of Royal Plaza is able to relax and chill during their breaks. Occasionally there will be a masseuse to pamper the staff. Thumbs up to the management in making this environment for the internal staff of Royal Plaza on Scotts.

You can follow them actively on Facebook, Twitter @royalplazatweet and instagram @royalplazaonscotts

DPMM FC to tame

the lions

Catch the match tonight between DPMM FC and Courts Young Lions

This is an important game for DPMM FC to get back to winning ways after only gaining 1 point in the last two games. DPMM FC will take on Courts Young Lions who have been struggling in the S•League with only one point in the five games they have played. Despite the visitor’s being 2nd from bottom of the league, DPMM FC won’t take this match lightly.

Did you know the Young Lions are Singapore U-23 team? Their results may not be favourable but they came close in getting points against Woodlands and Tampines Rovers only to have their hopes dashed by late goals. They were also one of the teams to gain a point at Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium with odds heavily against them last year. So this could be DPMM FC’s bogey team if DPMM FC fail to capitalize their home ground advantage.

Steve Kean expressed his thoughts, saying how challenging these matches can be tonight.

“I always think that these games are in a strange way just as difficult… if not, more difficult than playing against teams at the top of league,” said Kean in an interview with Yee Chun Leong of The Brunei Times yesterday at the Jerudong Mini Stadium.

“We may be better on paper but we all know that games are not won on paper. We will respect the other team and make sure we give them that,” he said. “They are a team filled with young players who will be eager to impress and try to get results. We must try to grab control of the game as early as we can. If we play anywhere near like against Tampines then I’m sure we will do very well,” continued the former Blackburn Rovers coach.

Aide Iskandar, coach of Singapore U-23 team, hopes his team can cause an upset against DPMM FC.

“Hopefully DPMM FC will be over-confident that my players are young and them slightly. Then they will see what my players are capable of, “ said Aide in an interview with Redzwan Kamarudin of The New Paper. “We still don’t have one of our main strikers, Sahil Suhaimi, and Jordan Webb is suspended so we are not at full strength.”

To those who are watching tonight, you can stand a chance to win an air ticket to Kuala Lumpur or Jakarta and there will be 8 other consolation prizes.

On another note, it was a surprise to see Tampines Rovers conceded 3 goals in the first 12 minutes as they suffered their first lost of the season in a 4-2 defeat by Hougang United.
