Final entry for 2014?
Ahh.. Could this be the final entry for 2014? Well, depends on my mood. I’m just back from a 10 day break and spent it in Singapore with my family. This is one reason why I simply took a rest from blogging and just enjoy my mini break. A well deserved mini break and preparing myself for 2015. This is also the first time I’ve been away in the month of December and only a total of 5 days I’m in Brunei. Yes, I definitely missed home and my friends and of course, toastmasters which I ended up going last night at UBD toastmasters meeting.
Though it was a 10 day trip, I packed myself meeting tons of friends from Singapore bloggers Tiffany Yong, Renzze and Adrian to local Singaporeans to friends in Brunei working and residing in Singapore. I also visited Madam Tussaud’s wax museum at Resorts World Sentosa with my siblings though they compared it with the UK and preferred the London version which is way bigger and better. We only lasted last less than one hour at Singapore’s so that really says a lot.
Movie wise, I surprisingly only caught two movies which was Annie 2014 (6/10) and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (6/10). There were simply not much interesting releases in the final third of December 2014. I could have watched another viewing of Gone Girl (8.5/10) which is totally uncensored as compared to the Malaysian version but gave it a pass. Do check out my full review of my Top Ten movies of 2014 on The Popcorn Panel (podcast) with my regular co-host @delgoh.
Perhaps the saddest part of December is the recent tragedy of AirAsia flight QZ8051 which is still reporting missing for the past two days. It was supposed to arrive on last Sunday morning in Singapore from Surabaya and the AirAsia Airbus lost contact a few minutes later after the pilot requested to divert the stormy path. My prayers to the 162 people on board and their family members and next of kin and friends.
I was a bit traumatized as I was catching the evening flight back to Brunei from Singapore and that’s just a trigger reaction after this becomes the fifth major airline crash in 2014. First it was the mysterious MH370, the MH17 being shot down, Tranasia Airways Flight 222 in Taiwan, Air Algerie Flight 5017 and now AirAsia QZ8051. I do hope the search of the QZ8051 will be conclusive. As of now, there are many speculations rather than conclusive findings.
On a high note, my year will end with two of my good friends getting hitched. First up is the couple of Tahir Abdullah (aka Terence Han) and Melati Dato Paduka Hj Yussof who had their nikah recently and I shall be seeing you guys early next year for your wedding celebration. The other couple is Richard To and Joanne Tan whom will be celebrating their wedding later tonight. I had the privilege to be one of the Heng Tais (brothers) and it was my first experience as well. It was pretty interesting because we all had to suit up in Power Rangers outfit *lol* Definitely something for me to remember in 2014.
If this is my final entry for 2014, I wish you all a great year ahead in 2015. Come to think of it, I still remember my resolution for 2014 but only done like 10% of it. Looks like 2015 will be an affirmation for my 2014’s resolution 😀 Happy new year to my readers and thank you for supporting me all this while.
Spend time with my siblings playing FIFA 15 on the Xbox One in Singapore. I’m surprised my younger brother is pretty good in the game.
Tiffany Yong enjoyed more of Annie 2014 than I did. The chemistry was lacking and it didn’t carry enough emotional impact like it did for me when I saw the original Annie.
Had a good dinner with Singapore bloggers Renzze (aka Karen) and Raphael at Le Steak. I suggest to order the lamb rack.
Guess who I bumped into? Oprah Winfrey 😀 … But at Madam Tuassaud’s ho ho ho
A great catch up with Yazid in Singapore. Thanks for the advanced gift bro. I shall see you in January InsyaAllah.
I didn’t foresee this coming at Orchard Road and this was taken an hour after December turned 25th.
I caught PeterPan Musical Broadway at Resorts World Sentosa. My verdict: Only a 7. Winnie enjoyed it more and it was also her first musical show experience.
The headlines to remind the public for future incidents
The Krispy Kreme colour trademark matches my Adidas outfit 😀
Congratulations Terence and Mel 😀

Walk the Talk
Millions free seats to give away
Who needs money when you can lead a simple life? Who needs a car or a bike when you can just walk? Who needs shelter when you can simply make your own or being offered/accepted by welcoming individuals to their homes?
There are many interesting questions or scenarios that many asked when I posted his picture on my instagram and it’s about a story about the David Attowe’s journey and he is a walking brand known as “Nomadic Lion” (you can also follow him on @nomadiclion instagram).
When he walks, he is able to tell a story or even hear stories from different walks of life and cultures. If he were to be given a lift by a car or other means of transport, that conversation won’t be as engaging as it will be only for a short time due to the convenience of a transport. Good point there!! He’s trying to send a message for all of us to slow down and appreciate every single thing in our lives and be grateful of what we have in front of us. I have to admit he is a true icon of abundance and he doesn’t need all the luxuries if you were to give him. That really shows how much of a visionary David is.
I recently met up with him after his interview on UBD FM last week and he is such a welcoming character and what caught my eyes was his trolley that he modified for his bag pack. Awesome!! So I brought him for so called “limteh” at Fleur de Lys and I didn’t know he’s a sucker for cheese cakes but of course, he still loves the cheese cakes back in his country (England).
I won’t waste much time now and I shall post the questions that were asked by my followers on instagram.
Follow David Attowe’s journey on Facebook and instagram @nomadiclion. Image courtesy of @nomadiclion
Yes, he showers everyday in fact. There was one situation where he would shower in the rain but at night if he happens to sleep outdoor. Shower butt naked *lol*
He will sleep every where possible but he tries to avoid sleeping by the roadside. In Brunei, he was fortunate that he was being offered to stay at a few places. His success rate of asking for shelter at people’s home in Borneo has been at 95%. Interesting.
The three fascinating things about Brunei are the people, the mangroves and the mini crocodiles. Yes, he is a big fan of mangroves and he believes Brunei has the best mangrove so far in Borneo.
He’s a big fan of noodles aka Maggi. He has eaten all flavours with egg but one that remains his favourite is Indo Mee.
The things that he brings in his bag are his notebook (Sony and he needs a new one since it’s almost broken), his camping gear, three sets of his Rasta colour top, medical kit and his SLR.
He wears the red, green and yellow top (like a Rasta man) because he used to live in Jamaica and stayed in the mountains for months. This top also catches the attention of the people whenever he walks.
He is an advocate humanitarian, a photographer, a videographer and an aquarium designer. Interesting, right? And he is still single.
Some of the challenges that he went through was such as lack of access to food and water, getting bitten by ants and mosquitoes but the biggest challenge is more on the mental quadrant. It’s important to stay happy and positive.
People of inspiration for him are Mahatma Ghandi, Vinoba Bhave & Bob Marley. He walks to create a change and inspire people. His inspiration song is from Bob Marley’s Soul Rebel.
Funnily enough he doesn’t have blisters and he wear the perfect sandals for his walk. He can just keep on walking and walking without feeling pain. I guess he has the right type of sole for his feet that makes a lot of difference. When I do my half marathon, I was already struggling at the 5k mark due to the minor pains in my joints and ankle.
Today he left bandar around 5:30am as he heads off to Miri which will take him at least 3 to 4 days. He has been in Brunei Darussalam for a good two weeks and he was also in good company. Sometimes in life, we always seek for more and more but not for David. He is more than happy on what he has and money hasn’t been an issue on his journey. Now how many of us can live the life that he is experiencing – abundance.
He is bound to be back next year to Brunei and I look forward for his presence. All the best, buddy.

I finally get to meet an inspirational icon for humanitarian, David Atthowe famously known as Nomadic Lion for his humanitarian project
He was excited to meet up my good friend SY and yes, David does own a smart phone (Nokia)
Did you know that his bag pack weighs at least 10 kilo? So what’s inside the bag? His notebook, camping gear equipment, hammock, 2 set of clothes, medical kit and survival kit to name a few. He uses a trolley which he hopes to refine to make it more practical for his walking journey.
Did you know that he loves cheese cakes? He applauded on the cheese cakes he tried at one of the places near Mount KK and the best he tried was in Europe. So peeps, anything with baked cheesecake, he is sold 😀
David walked from indoor stadium to Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources and he was greeted with the team from Tourism Development Department headed by Mariani Sabtu, Acting Director of Tourism Development Department.
During that 1 kilometre journey, he had some runners joining the short walk with him.

A notice that David will be heading to Sports School on Saturday morning
He prefers to walk in this than sneakers and he hardly gets blisters even on his sole. Amazing!!

I only dropped by last Saturday just to check out the “Revelation of Muslim Clothing” exhibition. I believe it was a great success and it was great to see big names from Malaysia showcasing their products to the Brunei market and yes, there is such a demand for these products that they offer. The exhibition also had special talks on Aurat and Muslim clothing with the title “Aurat oh Aurat, I Cover Up for Allah SWT”. You will be surprised that there are many things we assume that what covering Aurat is and there are many things to learn about Aurat itself.
The Revelation of Muslim Clothing event also comprises of an area for ‘Used & Wearable Clothing’ as well as Hijabs, Baju Kurungs, Baju Melayu, Jubah, shoes, shirts and pants which is free of charge for the public, as well as 100 over Ramadhan goodies.
One of the names that caught my eye was Miss Nina whom I made acquaintance during her days in Teh Tarik Crew and they did perform once in Brunei Darussalam. I doubt she remembered me *lol* and now she’s doing quite well with her fashion label Mizz Demeanor and Madeena Clothing (a Muslimah fashion label). Another famous designer from Malaysia is Calvin Thoo who was recently in Brunei as well for the showcase.
Check out some of the pictures below. Some of the images taken from @feekscada @madeenamy instagram and images courtesy of Aziz Idris and Syazwani Rosli of Borneo Bulletin.

So what pizza are you? Recently the media and food bloggers were given a special treat to try out what Pizza Hut has to offer with their 26 enhanced pizzas. So what’s the difference? It’s chunkier for sure and mozzarella cheese is made to perfection with the combination of the special sauces and the type of crusts you desire.
You can try out the different tiers such as the Supremes or the Gourmet Series or your All-Time Favourite. As for the sauces, you can request for the Classic Pizza, Sweet and Spicy, Creamy Garli, Alfredo Cheese and Texas BBQ Sauce. As for the crusts, there are choices such as Golden Stuff, Cheesy Bites, Whole-Wheat Italian, Whole-Wheat Crispy Thin and all-time favourite Pan Pizza.
My favourite so far is the new “Spicy Garlic Chicken” which is an enhancement from the ever popular Honey Garlic Chicken Pizza. You should try it 😀
During Ramadhan, patrons can try all the 26 pizzas in different crusts in Pizza Hut’s Feast Buffet, which will be offered for Sungkai at only $10 per adult and $7 per child under the age of 10.
Can you imagine me devouring all of these to myself? 😀

After months of toil and coding, local IT start up DotRoot Technologies saw their app FoodFuel go live in the Google Play Store. To herald the event, DotRoot hosted a LaunchFest at the iCentre, teaming up with popular local e-vendors such as WonderMama, Wing-It!, Pvintaj Cupcakes, Baker Blush and many others to sell their delicious goods and also introduce them to the apps’ potential.
According to Khairul Anwar, FoodFuel is essentially an ordering application developed for the local market in Brunei to facilitate and ease the pains of ordering food from restaurants, simply with a few clicks. Users can browse through a list of participating restaurants, go through their menus and even place their orders with a few clicks. On the restaurant’s side, among the features provided is the ability to see how many users frequent the app and who are their top customers, all in a tablet which is provided upon their subscription to the FoodFuel app services.
“One year on, there have been numerous ups and downs, constant revisions, and more than one moment that tested our tenacity as individuals and as a company.
But amidst all the variables and fluctuations, there was only one constant, that we were going to launch FoodFuel, and put that vision on the map,” said Saufi Jumahat, CEO of DotRoot Technologies, in a speech during the launch ceremony.
Congratulations to DotRoot Technologies

Sundown 21km completed last Saturday
Sundown galore. This is my second attempt in 21km and I have to admit I wasn’t really prepared for the race. Firstly, my training sessions have been woeful to say that least. I hardly train and I only had like 3-5 sessions since February on my run. Bad, right? By the way, I was just 20 mins away from the cut-off time to earn my 21km finisher medal. Phew!!!
Perhaps I was focusing more on tennis and swimming lately in the final month before Sundown which exactly doesn’t do much for my 21km but maybe more into swimming since it improves my fitness slightly.
My timing wasn’t that great either and I had the same mentality as last year which is to complete the 21km. The first 4 kilometer was great because I was on my actual pace 7.15km/hr until I hit the 5km mark and things started to slow down. My pacer Alice was already far ahead of me after the 3km mark. She finished an hour earlier from me and she’s a great runner but she hardly trained.
Between 8km to 17km, I was power walking because of the cramps that I had to endure and the worst was yet to come when I had blisters on my left foot which made running difficult. The final 3km of the route, I managed to jog and increase my pace. I believe it was the hot, cooling cream that I applied after the 17km mark and it helped the cramps to slowly subside.
My friends finished earlier than me too. Well done to Zuraidah for finishing her first ever 21km and she said that it will be first and final registered 21km race *lol* I’m proud of my sister Muji for completing her first ever full marathon 42km. I know this is one of my bucket list but if this is to happen for me, I will have to seriously train myself seriously.
The Sundown Marathon Singapore was another great experience. However, the overall feel and minor things (of logistics) of the event was slightly a let down. I wasn’t happy with the drinking station for a start and some of the routes are dangerous for running as I saw a lady trip due to the uneven path and good luck she didn’t bleed on her face as it scratched on the cement path.
Thank you Sundown Singapore for another experience. Next year again? Probably yes..
Alice, myself, Muji, Zahrin and Badee at the Sundown last Saturday. Only Alice and I ran the half marathon while the rest ran 42km. Well done 😀

The 15km mark..
Rubbish everywhere especially after the hydration check points
At the 20km mark, I pretended to hail for a cab *lol*
My priceless moment when both my friends Jessie and Joanne showed up to cheer for me at the finishing line. Thank you so much, ladies. It means a lot to know you were there 😀
