After a successful toastmasters demo meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office, a second demo meeting happened again over the weekend. The government officers definitely benefited from the activity and it was great to see Yahya Hj Idris, Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office in attendance and learning how toastmasters can benefit the government sector

Last weekend, the four toastmasters clubs in Brunei and the national gavel club joined in hand to celebrate and appreciate toastmasters members and gaveliers in promoting communication and leadership skills. It was a memorable evening with multiple roasts for Allen Ang, our Area K6 Director (handling the whole of Brunei toastmasters). Thank you, bro, for your guidance and leadership presence.

It has been a while since I traveled to Singapore and guess who I’m randomly bumped into… These two lovely chaps 😀 Taken last Thursday at ION Orchard.

Finally caught up with Joanne, Richard, lil Alex and Frances over dinner at Real Food. This is an organic cafe/restaurant and I kinda love the concept. Won’t mind coming back here again. and it was good to catch up with my Singapore buddies 😀

My recent trip to Singapore was also to test drive the new Volkswagen Sports Van which will be launched this weekend. This was a photo shoot with the Brunei media representatives taken at Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay, Singapore. Thanks @volkswagenbrunei for the trip.

As usual, the recent consumer fair was packed with people. I salute to those who are able to brave the human traffic.

This was another shot taken recent during our Jakarta trip and this was the Magnum Cafe at Grand Indonesia.

Our former member of Brunei Speakers’ Club is now a member in one of the Korean Toastmasters Club in Seoul. She recently competed in District Level and managed to come 3rd place.. Wow wow wow!! Amazing 😀

The friendly tournament that I organised among our training mates. It was a fun and a hot day too. This is the 1st Leg of the RA Tennis Doubles Tournament 2016. Thank you all for taking part and also to the coaches for the logistics and the draw.

CF in June

It’s back once again.. This time, the title has slightly changed and I think it will stick for a little while – ASEAN Consumer Fair. It was used to be called Consumer Fair but because there are many international vendors from ASEAN, hence it would be appropriate to label it ASEAN Consumer Fair.

The signing ceremony took place today at D’Sunlit Sdn Bhd office and present during the signing ceremony were Dato Paduka Hj Danial Hj Hanafiah, Executive Director of D’Sunlit and Mr. Christopher Chee, General Manager of D’Sunlit and the representatives of the event partners and activity partners.

This is a bi-annual event that will take place from 10th June to 14th June at the International Convention Centre (ICC). This time, the theme will be “Celebrate Diversity” and the event is promised to cater over 400 booths, offering wide range of products and services.

Thailand will have more presence with its Thailand Grand Fair. Do expect to see some craftsmanship such as umbrella painting, fruits and vegetable carvings and not forgetting their Thai cuisine.

For your info, this will be the 16th fair held by D’Sunlit and it’s in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources. For more info, you can visit their website at bruneiconsumerfair.com or you can call their marketing department at 245 3666.

Acer Iconia Tab 8W

Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Hj Yahya Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar holding the Acer Iconia Tab 8W at the Concepts Computer booth at Consumer Fair

I lost track already on how many versions have been released by Acer on their Iconia Tab. This time, this is the Acer Iconia Tab 8W which is ideal for business and pleasure. Now it operates on a Windows 8.1 OS and the good thing is that it is bundled with a Microsoft Office 365 (where you can do your work offline and online.

It is powered by an Intel Atom Quad Core Processor and ideal for multitasking whether you are playing games or video browsing or even surfing. This is lighter and thinner as well and what’s impressive is the sound it emits from the dual stereo speakers.

According to Zul Abdul Rahman, Marketing Executive of Concepts Computer, the latest Acer Iconia Tab 8W, unveiled the device which uses low-voltage RAM and Intel Atom Processor. This allows to conserve power and makes the battery life longer (7 hours).

It’s good to see Concepts Computer keeping up to date with the trends and if you buy from them, you will enjoy premium after-sale service. If you haven’t own a tab or tablet, this could be an ice-breaker gadget.

The Acer Iconia Tab 8W is available at Concepts Computer for $218. For more information call 223 3551, 223 3552 or 223 553.

Check out the video of the Acer Iconia Tab W8

Acer Iconia Tab 8W is quite affordable for a tablet

Snapfeed at CF15

Team Snapfeed briefing the local media

Six months ago, Snapfeed launched their apps on IOS and Android. Six months later (now), they have totally revamped the mobile apps for the convenience of the users. Now you can browse with ease and the app looks more structured and easy to follow.

The new interface allows you to browse to content such as deals being offered, information such news and movie times (and even movie trailers). Other exciting stuff are such as their digital loyalty cards with the use of QR codes. For the moment, Snapfeed has dealt with their current merchants such as KFC, Freshco, Burgerking and I Love Yoo to name a few. Do download the Snapfeed app and see what’s on offer.

For those who registered at their Snapfeed booth at the Consumer Fair this week, you can stand a chance to win a Samsung Galaxy Note or a Samsung Galaxy S5. This is only applicable if you signed up at their booth this week till Sunday. They will also provide a free photo session featuring the me-in-a-box booth.

Snapfeed booth is easy to find and it’s located in front of the Plenary Hall at the Orange Zone. I guess that’s the best location as it’s the central part of the Consumer Fair. Have fun browsing through the app.

You can stand a chance to win this when you sign up at their booth

Papparich turns 1

Their Pappa Char Kuey Teow is one of their best sellers among the patrons of Papparich located in Gadong. I recently “tapau-ed” a few dishes for a dinner function and let’s not forget one of my favourites now – the Pappa Deep Fried Crispy Chicken Skin.. Yummeehh….

Good thing now is Papparich is having their 1st anniversary promotion where you can enjoy 10% everything until 31st January. So you have a few more days to go. I will probably pop down this week to satisfy my craving for the Pappa Deep Fried Crispy Chicken Skin and their curry laksa..

Papparich is located at Block G of Abdul Razak Complex and you won’t miss it because their signage is the biggest one in Gadong if I’m not mistaken. You can check out more of their menus here but not all the new dishes are included just yet.

Try this too, another new dish, highly recommended

One of the drinks I kept on refilling. Herbal Tea with Citrus. Another one that hits the spot for me.

Sneak preview for CF15

It’s the 15th time that D’Sunlit has organised such event and it has become a Brunei household name ever since its inception since 2008. This time it will take place on January 31st (tomorrow) till Sunday, 1st February at the International Convention Centre from 10am to 10pm.

This time, there will plenty of activities for the public as compared to last time and many activity partners as well involved. Event partners include Kingston Beverage and Creamery Sdn Bhd, Oregon Systems, IBIC Sdn Bhd, RIPAS Hospital, Braun Sdn Bhd, Ho Tai Company Sdn Bhd and MagicLee Entertertainment.

During the five-day fair, various activities such as a unique theme park, lucky draws, and entertainment for children will be held as well as charitable activities such as a blood donation drive.

According to Ting Chui San, Marketing Executive of D’Sunlit, the consumer fair will help to promote SMEs in Brunei and of course, CF is always a good platform to expose businesses. The CF will boast at least 430 booths and you will also enjoy goods and services from ASEAN countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and The Philippines.

The event is also made possible with the help of the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources.

I shall be posting more news and stories, tying to the CF15 this week and you can also catch updates on my IG @ranoadidas. So where will the momentum of the crowd be this week? Definitely ICC.

Snapfeed is going pretty aggressive this week and relaunching their App. Do download the app at the booth and stand a chance to win a Samsung Note 4. Exciting things to come from Snapfeed in the next few months.

That’s right. After many successful events, the Consumer Fair is back for the 15th time. It seems like a long time ago when I was involved in the 1st Consumer Fair and it was also the first time that Brunei Cyber Games was born. Now fast forward to 8 years later, it’s already in its 15th edition. From time to time, D’Sunlit will come up with new activities to keep up with the local trend in Brunei Darussalam. It’s never an easy feat to create such fair that can attract to all walks of life residing in Brunei.

Of course, the Consumer Fair is a great avenue for those who wants to expose their products and services to the Brunei community. Business is always great when Consumer Fair is around. It’s no surprise you will see repeat exhibitors during CF events.

According to Ting Chui San, Marketing Executive of D’Sunlit Sdn Bhd, she is targeting SMEs and start ups. For the upcoming CF, there will be more than 400 booths taking part which is a huge increased compared to 3 years ago. Consumer Fair has already become a household name and it happens twice a year.

The 15th Consumer Fair will take place from 28th January to 1st February 2015 at the International Convention Centre. Check out the number of activities listed on the poster itself. I shall go more into details soon.

The Century Run

More than 4,500 participants took to the streets of the nation’s capital yesterday for The Century Run 2015.

The running competition and fundraising campaign was organised by the Department of Co-Curriculum Education to mark the 24th Teacher’s Day and 100 years of formal education in Brunei.
The ministry said in a statement that The Century Run was also a fundraising campaign.

Donations were collected from participants, with 90 per cent going to the Ministry of Education’s Sports and Welfare Activity Fund and 10 per cent to Pusat Ehsan.

“The Century Run serves to raise awareness on the importance of taking care of one’s health through recreational activities to help reduce obesity among public servants and citizens of the Sultanate,” the statement said.

“It also gives an opportunity for members of the ministry to lend a helping hand to orphans, children who have lost a parent and those with special needs by collecting donations.”

Around 6:30am under grey skies, the Minister of Education lit a torch which he carried from Masjid Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien, passing by Jalan Kianggeh to Taman Hj Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien to signal the opening of the event.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awang Abu Bakar Hj Apong along with 4,587 other participants then did warm-up exercises guided by teachers and students from the Sports School.

For businesses they will be able to track redemption of deals or loyalty card stamps to help better understand their marketing campaigns, while consumers gain the benefit of having all their vouchers and loyalty card digitized and will only have to flash their QR code at merchant outlets to gain benefits. This implementation would begin starting 16th of July and consumers can expect to see more tailored offerings and start getting rewarded for their spend.

Trash to Treasure Campaign (T3)

The Trash to Treasure Campaign today saw a big turnout at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, Berakas, exceeding its target of 200kg of recyclables.

With some 20 registrations from today alone, the T3 campaign successfully collected 546kg of trash from members of the public. The trash collected comprised 488kg of paper, 27kg of plastic, 8kg of aluminium, 2kg of metals and 21kg of electronic wastes.

The campaign, targeted at households and businesses, also generated the interest of a number of schools to participate in the campaign. “Our aim is to encourage people to recycle at home and at work. We are taking small steps to instill this positive habit,” said Asia Inc Forum’s conference manager, Nanette Ramos.

Through the T3 Campaign, Asia Inc Forum hopes to extend the habit of recycling from schools to households and businesses. Schools that are interested to participate in the campaign are encouraged to get their students to register their households, Ramos said.

Today’s T3 campaign marked the first collection, with its second and final collection scheduled to take place on August 10 at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, Berakas. The campaign was held in conjunction with the National Environment Conference, to promote environmentally-conscious lifestyle and build a sustainable living environment in Brunei.

The highest recyclers from each category (household and business) will receive prizes during the National Environment Conference on 13th August 2014. All the proceeds raised from the recycling campaign will be donated to participating NGOs to fund for their environmental projects.

The T3 Campaign is a joint initiative between Asia Inc Forum, the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) of the Ministry of Development, and Daikyo Environmental Recycling together with the conference partners; with TOTAL E&P Borneo B.V., Butra Heidelberg Cement, Baiduri Bank, and Brunei Press.
