CheezBox Sungkai Buffet
Queueing at the buffet line
Salted Egg chicken 😀
Wow! The Sungkai Buffet at Cheezbox was just wow. So many items to choose from. This time, Pranika and Shuyee were my Sungkai buddies and they gave it a big thumbsup after the meal.
Cheezbox had specific stations for savouries where salmon fried rice and mussels were among the items. Next to it was the salad station. On the other side of the restaurant was the Italian section where three sets of pasta and their sauces were being served and you could also make your own pizza. The lower floor had the Japanese station with sushis and tempuras next to the desserts station, which had so many varieties of ice-creams, cakes and puddings.
For Pranika and Shuyee, the desserts were their favourite. Even after admitting how full they were, they couldn’t resist getting a bowl of ice-cream with all the flavours. Now the flavours themselves (milo, peanut butter, seasalt, ginger, blueberry lavender, matcha) are very unique and they’re homemade! In every flavor, the taste was so strong. Pranika loved the seasalt one as it wasn’t too salty but it reminded her of freshness.

Butter crab. Definitely a steal coming from this buffet.

The ambiance was very cozy; the place wasn’t overcrowded but not too vacant either. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals and for me, the setting itself plays a big role on whether you have a good meal or not. Kudos to the staff too! They were so efficient in clearing the plates and glasses when we were done.
For such a wide range of food items, $29.90 for adult and $15.90 for children is value for money. Especially for children, they would have so much fun baking their own pizza and getting to choose from different cuisines. So what are you waiting for? Have you put Cheezbox on your list of Sungkai places yet?

PHOP introduced a new Ramadhan promo called the PHOP Gourmet Buffet
These are some of the dishes you can choose from as part of the main course for the PHOP Gourmet Buffet
What do you know? Paddington House of Pancakes are doing their special deals for the Sungkai promotion. Last year, they had one in the Berakas outlet and this year there will be two outlets, the other one being at Gadong. However, both outlets have different promotion in a way. Only the Berakas outlet has Ramadhan Buffet from 6pm to 9pm and the promotion is almost the same as previous years.
Now the only difference is that PHOP has added a new set menu called the PHOP Gourmet Buffet. This is ideal for those who wants a simple combination of starters, main course, dessert and a drink for a price of $25.
What’s interesting about PHOP is the types of dishes they serve. It has a western feel and it uses pancakes instead of the usual rice to serve the main courses. You will be surprised that it is pretty tasty as well.
Make sure you try the Porto Pannekek (Salmon, egg) and the Chipotle dishes. My favourite so far. And of course, to end it off with the treasure box for dessert. For reservations, you can call 233 1668 (Berakas) or 243 0086 (Gadong). You can also follow on their IG handle @paddingtonpancakesbn
They also have special discounts (10% to 20%) for pancake lovers especially for take aways

This one is pretty good I must say. Salmon with egg inside

Owner of Sugar and Spice Nash Salleh (L) and Chef Md Radwan (C) hand a free chicken shawarma to a customer. Image courtesy of Norliha Din of The Brunei Times.
Loyal customers of Sugar and Spice Arabic Food in Kiulap recently flocked to the restaurant to receive complimentary chicken shawarmas as part of the eatery’s way of welcoming the blessed month of Ramadhan.
The giveaway, which was from 3.30pm to 5.30pm, had patrons queuing up for the delectable Middle Eastern traditional grub.
In an interview with The Brunei Times, the owner of Sugar and Spice, Nash Salleh said the giveway was a regular activity during Ramadhan and Maulidur Rasul.
“I invited regular customers through a group chat and the words spread from there,” Nash said.
Meanwhile Chef Md Radwan Esbinati said more than 250 neatly packed shawarmas were freshly prepared for customers.
The Arabic cuisine is made of finely sliced grilled spiced chicken that is added with the chef’s special garlic sauce and wrapped in a warm pita bread.
Each customer can request as many shawarmas as they like, however, the numbers usually given away range from five to 10 shawarmas. “We hope to get the berkat (blessing) from the month of Ramadhan as they say the more you give, the more rezeki (sustenance) you will receive,” said Nash. For Sungkai lovers, CheezBox is back again with their Ramadhan promotion. I would highly to recommend you to do advance booking for CheezBox especially during Ramadhan because it’s just pretty popular. With a price tag of almost BND 30, you will know how much of a worth it is. It has one of the widest range of dishes available and they even cater for the 2nd batch comers (around 8pm if I’m not mistaken). I had the privilege to dine in last night with my buddies at CheezBoz Cafe. This year, they will have an interesting gimmick – for two adults and two kids, you will get a free Hello Kitty merchandise. Awesome!!
The dishes are recycled everyday and you will enjoy a different experience on your next visit. They have also the pizza station, popular among children, where you can make your own pizza. There’s also the pastry section for bread lovers.
CheezBox Cafe has been around since 2008 and it’s one of the best cafes in town. It has such a strategic location as well, smack down in the middle of Gadong. So you won’t definitely miss this spot whenever you are in Gadong. Again, I would recommend you to do advance booking as it was a packed house last night.
A great spread of appetizers
Some of the main dishes – mixed vegetables, mee hoon, garlic mussels and butter prawn
This is pretty tasty too. The salmon

Mabohai Shopping Complex is proud to announce that David Atthowe, founder of Nomadic Lion, will be joining our Earth Hour Event on Saturday, 28 March 2015 at 8:00 pm.
In 2014, David, along with his partner and Indonesian friend Yusep Sukmana walked 3,350 km all the way from Malaysia to Brunei. They walked to raise awareness about the Rainforest and people of Borneo.
During our Earth Hour Event on Saturday 28th March, David will give a special talk on the topic “Walking change: connecting with the earth and how we can all use our own art to create change.”
Nomadic Lion founder David Atthowe, who hails from Norwich, England, and Yusep Sukmana from Ciamis, Indonesia, have visited a number of landmarks in Brunei and other tourist hotspots including the Ulu Temburong National Park in Bukit Patoi in their 2014 ‘Walk of Borneo’ expedition which commenced in Sabah last August 2014. The Brunei Tourism Development Department supported the effort of the duo by raising awareness of their project and how it could help as a catalyst for people to protect their environment.
The nature-loving duo initiated their first project in 2014 by walking the entire length of Peninsular Malaysia to raise awareness on the environment and its people who live in harmony with nature. A documentary of their journey will describe the current situation of the local environment and the organizations working to protect it.

Hj Abu Bakar Hj Ibrahim, Chairman of Progresif Cellular Sdn Bhd (center) with Mozart Hj Ibrahim and Hjh Rena Azlina binti Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Aziz, directors of Progresif Cellular Sdn Bhd and Ang Han Kee, Head of Network Management & Planning, Progresif Cellular Sdn Bhd at the press conference yesterday at Radisson Hotel
The past is the past. Now it’s about moving forward. You may have heard or seen in the news about the new developments that B-Mobile Communications Sdn Bhd was going through a few months ago. A new company under the name of Progresif Cellular Sdn Bhd will run the operations of B-Mobile Communications effective 1st July 2014. This would mean the name of B-Mobile won’t be used anymore and it will be known as Progresif Cellular from 1st of July 2014.
A press conference was held yesterday, led by the chairman of Progresif Cellular, Hj Abu Bakar Hj Ibrahim. Also present during the press conference were the board of directors of Progresif Cellular, Mozart Hj Ibrahim and Hjh Rena Azlina binti Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Aziz.
I believe the great news about the press conference is the assurance that B-Mobile will not ceased its operation. Instead the service will be sustained and the everyday operations will be under a new management of Progresif Cellular Sdn Bhd. Acquiring an existing telco company is never an easy feat as they have to deal with many issues and paperwork. So it’s no surprise that the acquisition process took many months before it can be a successful one.
Hj Abu Bakar highlighted three important points which are important as their core values in achieving their vision as the most innovative mobile service provider in Brunei Darussalam. The first point he stated is the “People” which means the customers and their employees. It’s important to understand the needs and wants of customers and at the same time, it is important to train and develop the associates of Progresif Cellular so they can meet the demands of the customers in the best and most efficient ways possible.
The second point he shared was improving the network. This is no surprise that the existing subscribers of B-Mobile are experiencing inconsistent connectivity. He reassured that this issue will be put on a priority list and they have put on many countless hours in examining the problems that have been affecting the current network. Hj Abu Bakar hinted that the improvements of the network will be done in a gradual pace (in phases) and not instantly. I believe this is a great move by Progresif Cellular as I’ve seen telcos which focused too much on new services and products but forgetting the fundamental basics which is sustaining a good network.
The third point Hj Abu Bakar pointed out is building their brand. To me, it’s always important to create and make an impact, just by branding because it has a lasting impact and impression on consumers and that’s every entrepreneurs’ dream – to have a strong brand. From what I heard from the chairman’s speech is that the Progresif Cellular is very customer oriented and it wants to position itself to bridge that connection with its customers. Though this will take time to achieve such synergy and branding awareness to their customers, this is already a positive move by the company.
When asked about the 4G services, the chairman’s reply was simple – improve the existing network before upgrading their services and products. I’m quite excited what Progresif Cellular will be offering in the coming months and this will give a good competitive edge to their rival and of course, the winner here will be the consumers.
I’m also touched and honoured that the media was able to mingle with the chairman and the board of directors of Progresif Cellular after the press conference and this shows the trust they have on us and it’s also a good reflection of their vision and mission to create that relationship with their customers. In Brunei, it’s quite rare that we have an informal conversation during refreshments with directors of an organization. So I thank you for that opportunity and I’m sensing better things to come from Progresif Cellular.

There you go… I’m here again in Singapore for another assignment. I was just fresh from Seoul, Korea, for a special coverage on Harley-Davidson and it was a memorable experience for many reasons – riding a Harley, meeting celebrities from the region and most of all, being in Seoul for the first time *sakai* I will post my last batch of photos and coverage on H-D soon.
Yesterday I flew off to Singapore with the management of Indera Motors, dealership for Jaguar and Land Rover in Brunei Darussalam and representatives from the media and bloggers. My overseas assignment will be the coverage of the sneaks for Jaguar F-Type Coupe which will be unveiled later tonight in Singapore. Hence, the regional dealers in South East Asia will be present during the preview launch together with the local and international media.
So this is another great honour to be part of an international event and May has already been a super busy month for me. So thank you to Indera Motors for this wonderful opportunity and choosing and entrusting me for the coverage of the Jaguar F-Type in Singapore.
As time goes by, I’m beginning to learn new things in the automotive industry (Harley-Davidson and now Jaguar). So what’s next? Bring it on….
Below are pictures from yesterday’s outing. I won’t be posting much stories today. Enjoy 😀
Heading to Singapore again via @royalbruneiair and I ask myself, why haven’t I signed up for Royal Skies?? *fail*

One of the few hotels I’ve wanted to try but never got the chance was Marina Mandarin and Grand Park Orchard and finally, we were given the privilege to check in at the Grand Park Orchard. Awesome hotel and hands down, the best location for a hotel in the heart of Orchard
The first thing that caught my eye is the artwork in the room. I kinda like the room and I even fell asleep after lying down for a minute or two. I heard the room rate is around SG $300+ which is kinda worth it since it’s at the heart of Orchard. I won’t mind staying here actually.
It’s awesome that the hotel provides a smart phone for their patrons with unlimited local calls and international ones too. Not that I need one as I’m entrusted to my own personal one but this is a great facility offer by the hotel and this gets another plus point for me.
Last month, many Singaporeans were complaining about lack of rain and this time round, rain is getting common and there was a short burst of heavy rain in the afternoon yesterday.
Of all places, I bumped into an old friend Vinod at Minang House at Lucky Plaza and it was great catching up and sharing experiences
The food is always great here at Minang House. Even after lunch hours, the queue is pretty long.
My first attempt of Cold Stone and I prefer the Baskin & Robbins anytime. I do actually love how they prepare the ice-cream.
I thought they have completed the renovation but they are on it again at Royal Plaza on Scotts. I shall be staying here after my stay at Grand Park Orchard
