Filterworks experiencing Sungkai at Tandoor Restaurant

It is my unspoken habit to go to Tandoor at least once every month. Since it opened a buffet line during last Ramadhan, I went there three times that month for Sungkai. I wasn’t going to miss it again this year. And I sure wasn’t disappointed. The ambiance was so cozy, it was less noisy and the aroma that filled the air was amazing.

Tandoor has an exclusive mixture of Indian, Italian and Arabic cuisines on its menu. I quickly went to the main draw of this buffet – the mouth-watering Lamb Mandi, also known as Talam. It is actually a popular Arabian dish which has perfectly cooked, moist rice with very tender lamb. The lamb is flavourful and you can just taste the spices in every bite. Also, the Lamb Mandi is enough to feed the entire restaurant unless everyone decides to go for seconds. It is available every Sungkai so you won’t have to worry about it not being served when you visit.

Less known to a lot of people who go to Tandoor for Indian and Arabic food, their Italian dishes on the menu is worth trying too. I personally love the pizza there. As for desserts, their homemade ice-cream has a unique taste so I recommend that for those looking for something sweet after the main course.
$20 for adults and $12 for children is a great catch and value for money. What more? It opens until 2am for Sahur. So don’t forget to visit Tandoor for Sungkai this Ramadhan.

Restaurant opens until 2am for Sahur

 

For the first time, Tandoor.com Restaurant is extending its cuisine to Arabian and Italian. Well, they have introduced some of the dishes during the Ramadan period and now they have a more extensive menu. I have tried their Arabian dishes (lamb mandhi) and Italian (the pizzas) and they don’t disappoint at all. Even the Chicken Shawarma is good too. Ever since, the takeover by my friend from Kausar Cafe, he has revamped the management and also improved the quality of the food.

Because of the introduction of the new menu, the owner decided to do a special promotion for the patrons of Tandoor. Now if you spend more than $50 on a single receipt, you are entitled to choose one of the dishes from Tandoor. You have a choice of salad or Hawaiian pizza or half chicken tandoori or the chicken shawarma.. Awesome deal especially when you dine in for three to four pax.

This promotion is valid until mid October 2015. My personal favourite dishes are the Lamb Mandhi ($25, good for 2/3 pax) and the Seafood Marinara Pizza (simply amazing). Of course, I still love the original Indian menus but with a new addition of cuisine, Tandoor Restaurant will definitely bring more patrons to try out their new dishes.

The chili paste mixed with the garlic sauce is the best combo – I used it for my lamb mandhi and also the pizza. My friends love it as well. A good substitute for Tabasco.

Recently I posted that Brunei is a kingdom of expected runs. Only lately, a new run has been announced and that is the Run with Colours. I’ve seen this gimmick before and I was wondering if it will ever make it to Brunei. Waalaaa, it now has and the bad thing is I won’t be in the country for this event.

The Brunei Youth Council (MBB) is set to welcome all runners with a burst of colours at its charity run scheduled to be held on June 7 at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, Berakas.

The event’s ‘Run with Colours’ concept is to pelt its participants with vibrant coloured powder at certain checkpoints throughout the route. Also known as the ‘Happiest 5K on the Planet’, the idea originated from the original Color Run that was held in the United States in 2012.

As stated in the press release, the run aims not only to encourage generosity by participating in a charity event but also to encourage Bruneians to emulate liveliness and harmony in a healthy way by spreading positivity through colours.

“We want it to be as exciting as possible since it’s the first of its kind in Brunei,” said Khairunnisa Ash’ari, Head of International Relations of MBB.

On top of that, some members from the organisation will be participating in the colour run by throwing blue-coloured powder unto the runners who pass by at a certain checkpoint during the run.

“The reason is because blue is the colour for autism; so students from Society for the Management of Autism Related Issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) will be throwing the powder,” said Tiah Teck Cherng, an intern from Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

There is no age limit in this charity run. Each registered runner is entitled to a T-shirt, a pair of exclusive ‘Run with Colour’ sunglasses, a bib as well as a finisher’s medal! Kit collection can be made from June 4 from 4pm to 8pm until June 8 from 8am to 12pm at the Indoor Stadium.

There will be two routes available; the 3km and the 5km routes. Registration fees are $30 and $35 respectively.

Payment for registration will be from May 11 until May 13 from 4pm until 10pm at the Indoor Stadium as well. All proceeds from the event will go towards supporting the Brunei Youth Council as well as to SMARTER.

It was mentioned that the water truck will be deployed to clear any colour residue on the path and road of the mini fun run. So the public won’t be shocked to see a colourful road after the event. The management also advice to bring extra clothes and towel. A wet tissue or towel would also helped the participants in a way to clean off any colour paste on your skin.
