HMD FT’s dreams of going to Anfield to watch English Premier League team Liverpool were realised after winning the Standard Chartered Cup 2016 following a 3-0 victory over Plan C FT in the final at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex last weekend.
The family-oriented team which comprised four brothers raced to a 2-0 lead after goals from Khairun Nadzereen and an own goal from Md Shahin.

Liverpool FC in Bangkok
Flying off with Yee Chung Leong, sports writer from The Brunei Times and Marilyn Greame, Head of Corporate Affairs, Standard Chartered (Brunei) to Bangkok for the Liverpool FC Asia Tour
Brought me where? Bangkok 😀 I’m currently in Bangkok from a special invitation from Standard Chartered (Brunei) for the upcoming Liverpool FC Asia Tour. Their first leg will be in Bangkok before heading down to Australia and the final leg will be in Kuala Lumpur.
I flew off with Marilyn Greame, Head of Corporate Affairs, Standard Chartered (Brunei) and Yee Chung Leong, sports writer from The Brunei Times to Bangkok yesterday (and thank you Royal Brunei for taking us there too).
My previous Liverpool FC treat was back in 2012 where I also sent by Standard Chartered to Kuala Lumpur. That was fun too because I get to be up close and personal with the Liverpool FC players. I remember taking photos with Andy Carroll then.
So what privilege do both Liverpool supporters (Chun and I) have? We have our specula media passes; we had the opportunity yesterday to attend the press conference with Brendan Rodgers and Lucas Leiva; we will attending a football clinic at the Bangkok School for the Blind; we will have a special session with a former Liverpool player Luis Garcia and to cap it off, the friendly match between Liverpool FC and Thailand’s True All-Star Team. For your info, True is one of the leading telcos in Thailand.
It’s good to know that Standard Chartered continue their sponsorship with Liverpool FC as it helps them to engage with the community and especially their clients. This is a win-win situation for the Standard Chartered customers and Liverpool Football Club fans.
Woohoo.. We have a special ride from the airport transfer to Novotel Siam
Checking in.. Thank you, Standard Chartered, for accommodating us
The Liverpool fans waiting for the players
I wonder if they managed to get anything signed
Yesterday afternoon, it was a mellow down press conference for Brendan Rodgers, manager of Liverpool FC, who knew he was gonna be bombarded with questions of the Sterling saga. All he said was he wants to focus with the players that are in Thailand but he did acknowledged that Sterling had made negotiations with another club and it’s time for Liverpool to move forward. Initially Raheem Sterling was listed in the 30-man squad for the Asia tour but pulled out due to offers from Manchester City. It is reported that Sterling will be heading to Manchester City for 49 million pounds.
Now the saga is over, Liverpool FC can focus on the tour but Brendan is tight lipped on who will be the next players to sign up for Liverpool FC. It will be interesting to see who will replace Sterling but I believe Sterling is not up there with the likes of Alonso or Torres or even Suarez because he is still 20 years old and haven’t reached his world class status like the rest.
So tonight is the night. We will get to witness the first pre-season match of Liverpool against Thai True All-Stars team at Rajamangala Stadium. Woohoo.. Thank you once again Standard Chartered for this special opportunity.

The Gala dinner that we didn’t make it at all
This is a priceless moment. Thank you, Standard Chartered.
I came across this advertisement on Standard Chartered recently and what caught my eye is the difference in repayments for your loans. This is interesting indeed. How can that be possible to lower the repayment amount by as much as BND400 on a monthly basis? This was from the illustration of the poster that I saw on their website recently.
So imagine that you have a few loans that you have such as personal loans, credit card payments or your other loans. You will pay the normal dues respectively to the bank as part of your commitment. The thing that struck me me was the savings that you can enjoy when you consolidate all the loan commitments into one and enjoy a lower repayment scheme as a whole.
In other words, if I were to pay individually for the loans that I have even from other banks and the total loan amounts to a total of BND 75,000, every month I would have to fork out BND 1,093. Now with Standard Chartered’s new financial package, you would only pay BND 653 as a whole. That’s like a savings of BND 400ish. Now that’s a great deal.
Better still, you only pay a flat interest rate of 3.79% (6.5% effective) per annum for 15 years tenor.
I don’t have a personal loan or car loan from a bank but this may be relevant to those who have existing multiple bank loans. I understand however, there are qualifying criteria so not everyone is eligible. If you are keen to find out more, you can reach them at 265 8000 or click on the link.

The founder of #CHRENDS, Keeran Janin and I’m pretty sure he will come up with something innovative and this isn’t his first hurdle. Looking forward to your new adventure.
Announcement: Chrends will be going offline.
It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce that Chrends will be going offline. Due to sudden circumstances out of our control, the resources and support required for us to continue providing Chrends have been made unavailable.
We knew our mission was always going to be an uphill battle in gaining the trust of users, support for our cause and traction in spreading freedom of expression to regions and cultures that have never experienced it. These factors along with the usual challenges faced by startups have made us choose to cease work on Chrends.
This was a difficult decision as we’ve really enjoyed building this company and being part of such a great community of loyal users. Although we’ll never know you who you really are; through sharing our honest opinions, thoughts and laughter on almost every topic under the sun, we’ve all built true friendships that transcend real-life identity.
These are powerful personal connections and I’m certain that everyone will be disappointed to lose them. Even with my best efforts I have failed to find a way to see this through to the end, where our community could be appreciated globally as it truly deserves to be.
We will be able to keep Chrends online until midnight March 31st, so that the community members who may want to exchange real-life contacts to maintain their friendships have the chance to do so. You can be assured that all chats will still be as secure and untraceable as always.
At this point I would also like to acknowledge our supporters that have been involved in our story, there are too many of you to mention but you know who you are. For everything you’ve done to support us, I am truly grateful.
Yours sincerely,
Keeran Janin
Founder, Chrends.

Laksamana College now offering degree programmes from the University of Chester
Finally after years of waiting, Laksamana College of Business (LCB) is able to provide a degree course under the programme from the University of Chester. Some of the courses included are such as BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance (3 years), BA (Hons) Business Management (3 years), BA (Hons) Marketing (3 years) and BSc (Hons) Computer Science (3 years).
Late last year, LCB Chief Operating Officer S Sivarajah said the college received the approval letter from the Brunei Darussalam National Accreditation Council.
This would mean that you won’t have to travel all the way to the UK to get a degree and still get certified by a university and endorsed by Brunei Darussalam National Accreditation Council.
LCB currently has more than a thousand active students. Sivarajah said that he expects a high demand from both parents and students as the course offers them an alternative route to receiving a British university education. Sivarajah said the annual cost of the degree programme in the UK is about £10,000 ( BND 20,369) on average, whereas the college is able to offer the courses at BND 9,500. Now that is an affordable fee (almost 50 percent off).
Now LCB is opening for registration for February 2015 intake. A good way to start your undergraduate programme at Laksamana College of Business. For more info, you can call 223 8816 or 223 8818.

Stevie G attempted to grab the ball from the touchline but he was being shrugged off by Jose
What a great tactician Mourinho is! Liverpool was coming off a great run of victories and they never expect to be in the hunt for the title but their great run has put them back in title contention especially after their close victory over Manchester City a few weeks ago. However, Liverpool failed to beat Chelsea at Anfield where it mattered the most. Chelsea fielded a weaker team due to injuries and saving them for another important match in the second semi-final of the Champs League against Atlético Madrid in mid-week.
This was also the first time that Liverpool failed to scored in the first half in 25 games. So you can tell that Jose Mourinho know how to grind results at any expense and they played a much compact strategy especially at the back, forcing the midfielders and forwards to play deep, allowing less room for the likes of Sterling and Suarez to cause problems.
Two goals from Chelsea benefited from a clumsy errors, both coming in injury time of each halves. I truly salute Jose Mourinho in his tactics last night and if anyone can stop Liverpool form scoring, then it is Chelsea.
The result have open the Premier League wide open with Manchester City now favourites to win the title due to goal difference should both Liverpool and Man City win all their remaining games. Chelsea still have an outside chance to win the title if both Liverpool and City slip in their remaining games. Looks like the title will be down to the wire.
Will Stevie G’s error proved costly in the title race? We shall find out in two weeks’ time.
Demba Ba benefited from Stevie G’s error and scored late in the first half.

Stevie G was pretty emotional after the match and truly deserve to lift the trophy if you ask me
I caught this match last night with Terence Han at Coffee Zone and while my buddy remained calmed, my heart was racing inside as it was anybody’s game judging from the performance from both sides. Despite Liverpool having a 2-0 goal cushion with Man City’s Toure taken off due to injury, the visitors pulled the game back to in level terms and dominated the second half. It was also the first time Terence heard me swearing *lol* as I was cursing on the Liverpool players for being sloppy especially Sakho who looked shaky in defence and giving away possession cheaply.
Vincent Kompany had a torrid time as all the Liverpool goals was his to blame. He was wrong footed by Sterling as the Liverpool ace cheekily scored from the little gap. The second goal was off a corner and Kompany lost his marked man Skrtel who headed home. Liverpool’s third goal was gifted by Kompany who fluffed a simple clearance and Coutinho came out from no where to blast home Liverpool’s winning goal.
There you go. A summary of one of the best matches if not the best of the season. Man City still have six games to play compared to Liverpool’s four. Thank you, Brendan Rodgers in believing in the squad and it’s good to see a few English players too (Johnson, Flanagan, Henderson, Gerrard, Sturridge and Sterling) and not rely too much on foreign talent.
This season will go down to the wire and the title race is still wide open. For now, it’s Liverpool’s title to lose. Let’s make us dream.
The Liverpool fans were at the edge of their seats from start to the end
Terence was my bromance partner for the night. Though he’s a Gunners fan, he wanted Liverpool to lift the trophy.

Company employees and their families can have a fun and rewarding (in many senses of the word) time participating in the hiking activities to be held at the Tasek Lama Recreational Park starting at 6 am on Sunday 27 April as part of this year’s Sukan Ria Antara Syarikat.
Company employees interested to take up the 4.2 km hiking challenge event can sign up to be in the running to win attractive cash prizes for the first three men and three women to cross the finish line.
Happening at the same time will be the aptly-named Fun Hike which will stretch 3 km for men and 2 km for women, and is open to both company employees and their family members.
A lucky draw will be held after the hikes giving all participants the chance to go home with fabulous prizes.
The winning team will receive a B$2,000 cash prize, a challenge trophy, medals and trophy. A cash prize of B$1,000 will go to the runner-up team, and third place is rewarded with B$500, with medals and trophies going to both teams.
Teams can import up to three players from another company, allowing teams that would otherwise have insufficient numbers of players to participate in the fun. Being able to bring in talent from another company will also strengthen some teams, which should make for some exciting showdowns.
Registration forms along with the rules and official guidelines can be obtained at D’Sunlit Sdn Bhd in Beribi during office hours or at the official Sukan Ria website at www.sukanriabrunei.com. Completed forms must be received by 5pm on 15 April.
For more information, visit the official website or contact the Marketing Department at D’Sunlit Sdn Bhd via telephone at 2453666 or e-mail event@dsunlit.com

Good to know that the government agencies are doing facelift at recreational places. Recently we had the Serasa Beach facelift which has been getting positive comments from the public. So next is the Silver Jubilee Park and Tasek Lama Recreational Park. I haven’t really explore the Silver Jubilee Park but more on Tasek Lama for my morning walks which I have been neglecting too *lol*
According to the article from The Brunei Times, a jetty, a gazebo and surveillance cameras will be budgeted for the Silver Jubilee Park. The Minister of Home Affairs paid a visit to both these locations yesterday and he believes in restoring the recreational parks even if they are minor ones. The purpose of this upgrade is to make the recreational environment more conducive for the comfort and peace of visitors.
At Tasek Lama Recreational Park, resting house improvements were made, specifically the resting house near the waterfall. An ongoing improvement that was being made in the park was the reinforcement of a jungle track. The jungle track was built with concrete underneath, ensuring pathways would not deteriorate quickly. The ISB Art Exhibition last weekend at Kaleidoscope Art Gallery
I love art and enjoy watching installation and art pieces. Maybe today I will head over to see pieces and art installation of at the UBD Spectacle 2014 at the Art Gallery, Chancellor Hall. Today I will briefly shared about ISB’s art exhibition at the Kaleidoscope Art Gallery in Kiulap last weekend. I missed this event actually as it slipped my mind but great job to the students for Year 13 who are graduating from the International Baccalaureate (IB) course.
According to the article in The Brunei Times, The artworks ranged from digital photography, paintings on canvas and sculpture. One of the unique works was by Aneesah Zulfina. Titled ‘Bateman’s Gridlock’, the piece, which took her four hours to complete, was made from 200 rubic cubes that were sponsored by WW Mart.
Art teacher Christopher Hoddinott said that the exhibition was a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their efforts.
ISB student, Nur Fatin Farhana Md Jafaar, told TheBrunei Times that she felt very proud to be able to have her artworks showcased as “an exhibition is a pinnacle for every aspiring artists, new and existing.”
Too bad the art exhibition only lasted a few days. Well done, anyway, to the Year 13 students and good luck in your assessment 🙂 Below are some pictures taken from ISB and Kaleidoscope Facebook.

It’s great to be back again but not dreading for work. I have countless piles of work pending and I don’t even know where to begin with. Probably an assistant would have suffice. I tend to be freer whenever I’m abroad and I feel under pressure whenever I’m in Brunei. Some even suggested that I get a PR status in Singapore since I was born there too. Singapore was fun. My trip was shy of a fortnight and I had a splendid time with my family especially my mom who is recovering from a minor surgery. I was also there in Singapore to celebrate her birthday earlier this week before I head back home.
A few highlights for me was the Earth Hour in Singapore, the release of the Adidas FX Flux in Singapore (though there is a big downside to that) and also the quick sneaks of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hosted by Sony Pictures (Singapore). And of course, I was able to catch up with a few of my buddies in Singapore too. I shall be making another trip back if time permits and I hope to be there in time for the exclusive premiere of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 before it will be released the following week.
I have yet to settle here back in Brunei and I’ve been spending more time catching on my deprived rest. I know this myself that I need to organise my things to get back in shape. I’m also pretty behind in my fitness level as I have registered for the 21km race for Sundown, end of May, in Singapore. So there are many things under my checklist before mid year kicks in and time has been flying pretty fast I must say. The other guilty thing(s) that I’m aware of are my resolutions for 2014 which I pledged for myself on 1st January 2014. I would say that I’m only 2% on it and this is already mid April *lol* Talk about commitment, aye? I hope my baby steps can give a much needed boost to get me going for my resolution.
I recently attended the BIT Council meeting and I learnt quite a few things that were shared among the members of the BIT Council. This actually stands for Brunei Information Technology Council and it’s spearheaded by the Minister of Communications. We recently were given a book which has a case study on Brunei’s indices rating on technology and it is being reported that we are pretty far behind when it comes to affordability. Many of us have questioned the credibility of the findings as it contradicts the predicted patterns of the consumer ends side of the things. Perhaps there wasn’t much explanation given in-depth on the findings and I believe the government have spend quite on a fortune on it too.
Recent weeks have been challenging indeed. Making new friends, reconciling ones and sustaining the closer ones. I have learnt the different types of characters that I’ve gone through and it was also a great reflection of myself too. Despite the awareness that I have, the choices I have made may not be favourable in the eyes of some. I have yet to reach my highest self and give myself a kick in the butt that I can do better. My connections with my trusted ones have been haywire to say the least. I have probably judged my own being too and allow others to judge my well being and actions. For now, it’s a rebuilding journey ahead. Lessons after lessons with many distractions along the way. Well, that’s how life is, right?
I’m gonna enjoy my Sunday and recover back from my sleepy eyes. Have a great Sunday, peeps!!!
Oh, below are some of the photos that I felt like sharing with your guys.
During my mom’s birthday earlier this week. Thank you, mom, for being a great provider to the family and continuously supporting us since Day 1. I surprised her with some flowers I bought from Takashimaya. Though there aren’t as big as others but this small gesture has more meaning and it was the first time I actually handed a bouquet of flowers to my mom personally 😀
Yazid Yakub what sapped me this picture earlier this afternoon and I wept a little seeing this photo. It shows how much I missed my high school years back in Geelong Grammar School, Victoria, Australia. Yesterday there was our class reunion on 94’ and sadly, I wasn’t able to join Yazid and the rest down under. The picture was taken during our final year prom night to mark the end of our high school years. Thank you for the memories 😀
A nameless soft toy given to me by @lilmopiko @timelessrealm. I have no idea why I was so attached to this toy and I carried with me wherever I went. Not until my trip to Penang in 2012, I lost it and till today, I couldn’t let go that feeling of attachment. Many lessons can be learnt here.
A match that I didn’t bother to catch live on TV but just rely on social media for updates. This was the rematch between Manny and Bradley and the Filipino managed to avenge his defeat by an unanimous decision. This is a great shot by the way.
Some billed this as a title decider. I think not. There are still plenty of points to play for. Should Liverpool beat Manchester City and Chelsea this month, it’s a high possibility the title could be virtually Liverpool’s. The season hasn’t been this exciting for many years as it has become a three horse race.
I tried these Burger King’s Drummets and I was impressed. It’s available now at our local franchise store at Bandar
I caught Wrestlemania and my reactions were pretty mixed. I love the finale though but the saddest part is to see The Undertaker’s streak to end by Brock Lesnar. Then again, it has to happen one day and Brock is a much better candidate to do so. Hulk Hogan didn’t do much to host Wrestlemania so I don’t see why the big hype. By the way, I had to fork out USD 60 for the PPV as I was watching it on WWE.com on my notebook.
These wireless Jabra earpieces are awesome especially for my runs. The only problem which can be annoying is when it’s trying to pair with my phone device. It may take some time to detect. A few days ago, I accidentally left these earpiece on the McDonald’s tray at Singapore. There goes my Jabra piece. How careless of me!!!
Great deals for those purchasing the Acer Smartphones at Concepts Computer. If you are senior citizen or even a teacher or a student, you can now get these Acer smartphones and you will be given a 2600 mAH powerbank (while stock lasts). Pretty cool, aye? So do drop by Concepts Computer and check them out. I shall be writing more on these special promotion by tomorrow. Stay tune!!
Chef Cathy from Royal Brunei Catering was participating in the recent FHA 2014 Culinary Challenge. She didn’t win in her category but she really enjoyed the experience. Her colleague Chef Ahmad bagged Silver Medal under the “Class 3B Pastry Showpiece”. RBC sent 8 chefs to compete in the Culinary Challenge recently held in Singapore.
There was quite a crowd at the recent FHA2014 held at the Singapore Expo. My feet were aching just walking through most of the halls. There were 10 halls altogether. Apparently those who attended previous FHA events said that there weren’t much difference.
Finally it rained in Singapore after weeks of dry spell. I’m also sporting my current favourite walking shoes too – Adidas FX Flux though I’m still bummed out that I missed out the Prism Flux edition.
I bumped into an old friend at the Changi Airport and she was transiting from her Umrah trip via Singapore. We kinda have matching head covers 😀

Fiona the podiatrist was trimming my new customized insole for my running Adidas shoes and thank you so much for the great service. I shall talk about this soon and share with you my experience at The Sole Clinic at SOHO2, Singapore. I would definitely recommend you to try this place if you have problems with your feet or leg especially for runners.
The interesting phenomena that took Brunei by storm. This was the most trending picture last Tuesday. This image belongs to Rachael Yeo 😀

Such a sad news to know that the Ultimate Warrior passed away. He was just on Wrestlemania 30 and came on RAW and passed away a day later. He is definitely a legend superstar for WWE and it was good to see him being inducted in the Hall of Fame
Another friend I bumped into in Singapore and we did a quick shopping at Zara. Happy belated Aziimah 😀
Mom bought a stack of this iTunes card at Qisahn at Far East Shopping Centre, Orchard Road. A USD 15 card only costs BND 20. Good deal, aye?
I miss this place already. This was my regular jogging spot at the Singapore Botanics Garden. The only place that I can appreciate nature and the green while burning my calories. The swing does bring some childhood memories.
