Louis Loo Kee Lee (left), founder of Plus+ Magazine and Kristy Lim (5th from left), founder of Piccolo Café with representatives from Jerudong Park Medical Centre and staff from Piccolo Café during the Save Life by Giving Blood campaign at Piccolo Café last week.
Late post. It was the fourth time that I have donated blood for a good cause. This was part of the Plus+ Magazine drive collaborating with Piccolo Café and Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC). There were a total of 36 donors though there were many that had to be rejected due to low blood pressure, cholesterol and low haemoglobin levels. Though I have to say kudos for their thoughts and efforts to show up at Piccolo Café to donate.
The event began at 10am and ended at 4pm. Kristy Lim, owner of Piccolo Café was quite overwhelmed with the responses from the public and it was also the first time such event was held at her establishment.
During the blood donation drive, donors were treated to light refreshments courtesy of Piccolo café.
They were also given three complimentary issues of Plus+ magazine as well as special goodies from JPMC. Perhaps another one next year, Kristy? 😀
By the way, Piccolo Café are treating their customers a free additional shot of espresso for all coffee beverages from today until 10 May! Such good news for those who love their extra shot in their cuppa.

Are you Team Ironman or Team Cap? I’m definitely team yellow and red
Yea… A whole bunch of us are gonna catch this at The Mall Cineplex
Oh yes… Finally it’s here. The premiere of the final instalment of Captain America called Civil War. This is a prelude to The Avengers 3 and some even called it Avengers 2.5 as it involved all the characters except for The Hulk and Thor. I’ve watched the trailer many times and I have no doubt that this will be an awesome show. For many reasons. One being directed by the Russo brothers who were responsible for Captain America: The Winter Soldier which I love a lot. The second reason being is that it’s a Marvel universe where D.C has fallen flat in the wars of the superhero universe.
There’s even a critic who wrote “Packed to bursting with the one ingredient “Batman V Superman” lacked: Joy”. I’m quite surprised that many critics gave this flick a thumbs up and so far it has scored 97% on Rotten Tomatoes as compared to Batman V Superman’s 28%. Judging from the critics, this could be the biggest superhero movie of 2016. Period. Now the question is, will it top Batman V Superman’s box office earnings of USD 860 million worldwide. I’m pretty sure that it will be able to since it garnered USD 715 million for Winter Soldier worldwide.
I’ll be catching Captain America: Civil War with my buddies tonight at The Mall Cineplex so do watch out for my reviews soon on my podcast.

Eric Tang, Epson Malaysia’s Sales Manager Retail Division (2nd from left) and Zul Abdul Rahman, Marketing Executive of Concepts Computer (2nd from right) with Concepts Computer associates during the launch of the new Epson printers, the Work Force edition.
Eric Tang giving a quick presentation on the strengths of the new Epson printers ideal for businesses
You have heard of the L series of Epson printers (popular among teachers and students), suitable for home use. Now comes the business segment from the latest edition of Epson inkjet printers.
So if you are looking for efficiency, speed and quality, then I highly recommend you the Epson Workforce models – Epson WF-5111 or the Epson WF-5261 or the Epson WF-100 (mobile printer).
The said printers were launched at Brilliance Hall at Concepts Computer with Eric Tang, Epson Malaysia’s Sales Manager Retail Division, giving a quick presentation on the new Epson printers.
What caught my eye is the Epson WF-100 model. Why? It’s very portable and plus it’s wifi ready too. Perhaps the most interesting thing is that it can be power up using your power bank.. Awesome!!! I like the light weight of the printer and weighs 1.6 kg so you can actually bring it around for emergency purposes. Surprisingly this printer givers the best print out resolution as compared to the bigger printers. It can produce up to 5,670 x 1,440 dpi on a photo paper. Impressive!!
The bigger models are the WF-5111 and WF-5261, both coming with wide range of connectivity and mobile printing solutions. You can make use of your smartphone and download the app for printing purposes too. The other plus signs for these models are that it will give you significant savings through minimal usage of electricity, unlike laser printers which relies a lot on heat.
The Epson WF-5111
The Epson WF-5261
The awesome portable Epson WorkForce WF-100
Zul Abdul Rahman, Marketing Executive shared that Concepts Computers will always move forward and strive to add the latest and best for our customers to choose from, which is why we’re bringing these 3 models into the Bruneian market.” Zul continued, “As can be expected from Epson and Concepts, these 3 models will be cost-effective and high in quality, printers that businesses can depend on day-in day-out.
Eric Tang said that “We at Epson believe that the Bruneian market is at a great position for expansion and with the growth of SMEs in Brunei Darussalam, these Epson WorkForce printers are perfect for that as well.“ Eric also added, “And with Concepts being our techinical service provider in Brunei, we are confident that Bruneians can put their trust in our products, building a solid foundation of ‘Peace of Mind’ to grow their productivity and businesses.”
Now for the price: The Epson WorkForce WF-5621 will be available at Concepts Computer for $468, the Epson WorkForce WF-5111 will be available for $268, while the mobile Epson WorkForce WF-100 will be available for only $218. The highlights of Warriors FC vs DPMM FC
Brunei DPMM FC continued their unbeaten run in the 2015 Great Eastern-Yeo’s S.League on Friday evening after defeating Warriors FC 3-1 at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
Two early goals from Rafael Ramazotti set the Wasps on the way to victory before Paulo Sergio netted a penalty to wrap it up despite a spirited comeback from Warriors FC in the second-half, which saw Nicolas Velez pull a goal back.
This means Brunei DPMM FC are still undefeated but still lie in 3rd place with two games in hand. It was a pity that Joe Gamble was sent off for an off-the-ball incident late in the game.

BIBD Ar-Rahnu yesterday hosted members of the Muslimah Jemaah from the Sultan Sharif Ali Mosque in Sengkurong, who were greeted by BIBD’s Head of Ar-Rahnu, Hjh Rosminah Binti Hj Abd Wahid.
The purpose of the visit was to better understand the benefits of BIBD’s micro- credit facilities for SMEs offered by BIBD Ar-Rahnu, and to also gain better knowledge of Islamic banking products. The visit also included a tour around the BIBD Ar-Rahnu premises.
BIBD AR-Rahnu provides quick Shariah-based pawn-broking using gold items and precious stones as collateral for short-term financing of up to twelve months. The financing is also useful for those who don’t qualify for conventional financing, such as those without fixed income.
The financing can also be used for obtaining capital to start up short-term businesses like setting up food stalls during major national events such as the birthday celebrations of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the National Day celebrations, and the Ramadhan stalls.

I still missed the premiere of The Avengers: Age of Ultron and I still haven’t watch the movie since it’s not out in Hua Hin, Thailand just yet. It is slated to be released next week. So I have to wait for the release in Thailand since I will be here for another week. I just love the IMAX experience in Siam Paragon, Thailand. Way better than Shaw Theaters, Singapore.
However, it was a successful event where fan boys and girls of Marvel caught the marathon of The Avengers at Times Cineplex (Times Square, Empire, Tutong and KB). There are also selling The Avengers: Age of Ultron merchandise at all the outlets. I’m still eyeing for the t-shirt as well as the popcorn metal bucket.
What’s the rating so far? I would say that judging from my peers on IG, the reviews are slightly in 7s and above. The scores in rotten tomatoes is currently at 80% from 71 reviews as compared to Marvel’s The Avengers which hit 92% from 311 reviews. So it seems that it won’t top the 92% mark in RT if the number of reviews hit over 300. Give and take, it will reach in the high 70% by the end of the month. You can check out my friend Tiffany’s review here.

A great turnout last Tuesday
A total of 128 volunteers managed to collect 2,062 kilogrammes (kg) of waste at the Tungku Beach in a cleaning campaign organised by the Beach Bunch to mark Earth Day last Wednesday.
Speaking to The Brunei Times, Beach Bunch President Rizan Latif said it was the group’s first clean-up this year, held in commemoration of the Earth Day.
He said that Tungku Beach was chosen as the location because it represents “the debilitating condition between human and nature that now creates chaos”.
“Beaches like the Tungku Beach is being used daily and we want to raise public awareness to ensure that the beach is always kept clean,” said Rizan.
He added that it was a positive event as “128 people came and were committed to say no to a dirty beach”.
He said with the recent revamp of Serasa beach, beach visitors and business owners have moved to Tungku beach, resulting to large number of visitors on weekends and their litter.
“Beach Bunch wants to create a better image of Tungku beach as well as to educate visitors for a more pleasant environment,” he said.
“It’s more like contributing back to the community and it’s a stand to tell that for Beach Bunch, littering is not the way to go and we must be responsible,” he continued.
When asked why the bad habit is still practised by irresponsible beach goers, Rizan said it’s because people have this ‘someone will clean it up’ mindset.
“Some people may see that the place is already dirty, so [they] might as well just litter. Others may want to be responsible but there are no allocated trash bins around the site so they litter. But the worst is the “someone else will clean it up” mindset that some people have,” he said.

Rizan added that while changing the mindsets of these irresponsible individuals is difficult, it is not impossible as various steps have been taken to create awareness about the effects of littering.
“We’ve held a couple of awareness sessions at schools and carried out a series of beach cleaning campaign so people can take part and be more aware,” he said.
Various schools, colleges and private companies came to support the clean-up, including International School Brunei (ISB), Politeknik Brunei, Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB), Yayasan Secondary School, Mashhor Group Sdn Bhd, Takaful Brunei Darussalam and Standard Chartered Bank. Joanna Kwan playing the lead role as Mary Poppins. Awesome!!
Awesome dance choreography
Though I was still tired from the short Labuan trip, I managed to catch the Mary Poppins on the final night. The previous musical broadway performance from @relentlessbrunei (Relentless Entertainment) was two years ago and it was entitled Enchanted Forest if I’m not mistaken. Last weekend, @relentlessbrunei upped their game with a rendition of Mary Poppins in Poppins the Musical.
Well done to the cast of Relentless especially Joanna Kwan and Zainal Bostaman. It was the first time I saw Zainal acting on stage and Joanna is no stranger in the acting scene as she carried the show with her role as Mary Poppins. The dance choreography was impressive as well and my best scene of the play was the “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”.
To be honest, I know of Mary Poppins’ movie existence but I never really take notice of the plot until that night. The only problem I noticed for their show was the microphone issue though this is a huge improvement from the first night from the word of mouth. This is because not all microphones had the same audio level. I couldn’t hear Aaqiil’s voice properly and some of the voices from the cast weren’t really articulated.
Other than that, the show exceeded my expectations and I applaud Relentless Entertainment to bring this musical show once again to the public. Keep up the great work!! I’ve flooded with tons of pictures. Enjoy!!
