Never trust a skinny cook
This is so far the best Indonesian cuisine in Brunei. I’ve seen many around in Brunei but Pondok Sari Wangi, hands down is the best. Maybe I’m biased because I love their beef rendang and telur beladur. Of course, their signature dish is the ayam penyet.
For the month of Ramadhan, Pondok Sari Wangi is offering Sungkai buffet and it has been an overwhelming response from the beginning. So my suggestion is to do advance booking to avoid disappointment. Their best dish is definitely the crab (different flavours) but only served on alternate days. So if you are craving for crabs, make sure that you call them for information.
The buffet line is served at all three outlets of Pondok Sari Wangi (Gadong, Sengkurong and Citis Square). If you prefer to order ala carte or set menu, it’s only available after 7:30pm.

Have you tried dining at Kimchi Restaurant? If you taste bud feels for Korean food, check out Kimchi Restaurant. I am a big fan of their BBQ stuff. On my last visit a few nights ago, it was totally packed. To be honest, it has been fully booked for the past few nights. I had to do advance booking to ensure my slot. So you know what it means when it’s advance booking time. It means the restaurant is really good value for money and also delicious.
I brought Coey as my Sungkai guest and it was her first Sungkai outing too. What is her rating? She was impressed with the marinated meats for the BBQ grill which is part of the All-You-Can-Eat from the Kimchi menu. They also served the usual small appetizers for those choosing the all-you-can-eat menu.
They also offer Ramadhan vouchers. For take-away customers, there will be a 15% discount from 2pm to 5pm daily during Ramadhan.
Follow their IG on @kimchibrunei for updates or their Facebook Page. Hurry since there’s only less than two weeks left before the end of Ramadhan 😀

A fan of shabu-shabu and you know there have been many restaurants that offer hot pot stuff. Now they have two branches – one at Batu Bersurat and the other at Delima. I sungkai-ed this time at the Batu Bersurat branch.
They provide different kinds of Set Meals to your liking during the month of Ramadhan. I opted for the ala carte since I don’t really eat that much. But for those who choose to have ala carte, Shabulicious offer 15% discount only during Ramadhan. And guess what? The 15% discount deal ends until 2am. So which means you can also enjoy sahur at their establishment. The last order will be at 1am. Tomorrow (Tuesday, 8th July) they will be having a 30% discount for all BIBD Credit Card holders. So swipe away and enjoy the 30% discount.
Visit our branches Shabulicious Delima Square and Shabulicious Restaurant, Batu Bersurat, Gadong and dial their hotlines: 2338333 (Delima) 2451000 (Batu Bersurat).

Small, cozy and just right. Sometimes you don’t need a big place or plenty of choices. Sometimes all you want is a simple buffet that can satisfy your cravings. All for $10.80, you can enjoy some of the selected dishes from Kausar Cafe. The Bryani Rice, the Chicken Tandoori and the beef dishes are my favourites.
I’m amazed how Nizam, sole proprietor of Kausar Cafe, had made changes to the restaurant after he took over two years ago and the quality is very consistent. He now manages both Kafe Kausar and Tandoor Restaurant.
It’s a good idea to make reservations as well. It was full house last night and I’m sure they are the regular patrons of Kafe Kausar and they know what to expect.
I don’t mind dining here again and even at Tandoor. Easy to find parking and away from the traffic. Keep up the great work you have invested in Kafe Kausar, Nizam and thank you so much for your support these years. You can also follow them on instagram @kausarkafe. Belluno Cafe is located at Kiarong Complex
What started off as a gelato kochi kiosk three years ago, the co-owners ventured into a cafe business last year at the heart of Kiarong. Those working around the area will be familiar with Belluno Cafe. I have paid a few visits to Belluno Cafe and my favourite dish has been the spicy spaghetti bolognese. Yummm…
Belluno Cafe during Ramadhan is not providing any buffet or set meals. Instead they are offering 20% off all menu which is a great steal. You can call 242 9010 for reservation.
Another gimmick Belluno Cafe offers are bento sets such as Chicken Schnitzel with pasta and ice lemon tea drink to go or Chicken Fajitas with mediterranean rice and an ice lemon tea to go. Or if you feel like Nasi Kerabu or the one that caught my eye is the Nasi Lemak 2.0 Ayam Rendang. All of these are served in a bento set, ready to go for take away. You will need to pre-order the bento sets and subject to availability. Just whatsapp 873 3608 for bookings and each bento sets is $8.90 and comes with a drink.
Belluno’s signature dish is the Chicken Waffle with egg on top. Must try. My friends and I also love the Milo Sizzling Pan for dessert. I was kinda addicted to it and couldn’t stop helping myself to it.
Belluno Cafe is also having special discounts for Baiduri Cardholders – 5% discount (classic credit card), 10% discount (gold credit card) and 15% discount (infinite & platinum card) for the period of Ramadhan.
One of the latest new dishes is the Lamb Shank which is a chef’s special. If you are aiming for a simple meal, you can give Belluno Cafe a try. You can follow them on Facebook page and also on instagram @bellunocafebn

One third of Ramadhan has just passed and this is the prime period where Bruneians tend to dine out and plus pay day was just a few days ago. Another great recommendation by my photographer was at Momo Restaurant (formerly known as All Stars Cafe) before a new management took over the premise. The restaurant has been around for a year and a bit and only recently the locals are frequenting the restaurant especially during Ramadhan. One reason – the wide selection of dishes from soup to main course to desserts for a very reasonable price.
I will give a thumbs up to the new management for being creative and managed to attract a strong crowd for the past few days. Yesterday also was pretty packed because of the BIBD 30% discount promotion for BIBD Credit Cardholders.
They have three menu cycles throughout Ramadhan and thank you for sharing some of the menus so I could post this up on my blog for the benefit of the readers and those who wants to patronize at Momo Restaurant.
They serve two types of soup (Asian and Western) every buffet. Their condiments and dips are always the same but plentiful enough to satisfy your cravings. The main courses have at least 8 dishes to choose from and they have a 3 cycle menu for this. As for the action station, you will enjoy the live grill section, noodle section, pasta section and bread section which will always be served every Sungkai hours. The one I find interesting is the Ramadhan corner which is the real deal. That section is always served every Sungkai and it has the main attraction such as the Nasi Briyani Kambing served with Seruding Kelapa, Serunding Ayam, Beef Rendang and Pulut Kuning to name a few.
If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Gadong or Kiulap, then I highly recommend to pay Momo Restaurant a visit. A different ambience with a great variety of cuisine at your disposal. What else can you ask for a price valued at $22.80 for adult? 😀 You can also read more detailed article on Thanis’ article on Momo Sungkai Buffet.

You are what you eat
My guest for that night – Jody Lo 😀
I’ve blogged about King of Buffets previously on my blog and that was the Sungkai Mega Buffet of Freshco. Now, I’m introducing you the queen version of buffets and that is KB Sentral’s Grand Buffet. With the same shareholders, you will the same local and international brand under one roof and this is located at Kuala Belait. So now there are more choices for the residents of KB and also Seria and this means it’s gonna get competitive as well.
Just a note that don’t expect a humungous array of dishes compared to the one’s at Freshco (Bandar). The choices are still aplenty to say nonetheless and you are still getting your money’s worth too. I’m happy that they have the beef rendang that I craved for in the buffet 😀
The KB Sentral’s Grand Buffet uses all the restaurant’s space of Sushi Tei, All Seasons and Waroeng Penyet and it can accommodate more than 200 pax.
You can also enjoy pastries from Auntie Anne’s and the western dishes from Pastamania. So do make sure to take your time dining and don’t hurry yourself to fill up your tummy. There are just many choices to choose from and they are of good quality too.
By the way, you can also stay over at Garden Sentral Hotel which is also the same building sa KB Sentral Shopping Centre. They have a special promotion of BND 149 per night (Deluxe Balcony or Poolside Room) and it’s inclusive of two sungkai buffet and two sahur. Isn’t that a great promo deal? For reservations, you can call 333 8333 and you can also follow them on instagram @gardensentralhotel

Great discounts and privileges using BIBD Cards for The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf
Ceri Cafe is located in Kiulap, same row with Mothercare and Bebeland. It’s a cosy, cheerfully decorated cafe with a red theme. Mind you they have another branch at Delima. I highly recommend that you book ahead if you wish to have your sungkai at either branch.
Now what to do they serve? Definitely Asian cuisine and the variety are just nice for those who won’t settled for a bigger buffet. The choices are just nice for my kind and it’s a good deal as well for a buffet under $12. The menu keeps changing but you can call them at 223 4997.
If you are going for ala carte, I kinda like the beef burger there. So thinking of a soothing and relaxing way to open your sungkai, try out Ceri Cafe Kiulap.

PHOP introduced a new Ramadhan promo called the PHOP Gourmet Buffet
These are some of the dishes you can choose from as part of the main course for the PHOP Gourmet Buffet
What do you know? Paddington House of Pancakes are doing their special deals for the Sungkai promotion. Last year, they had one in the Berakas outlet and this year there will be two outlets, the other one being at Gadong. However, both outlets have different promotion in a way. Only the Berakas outlet has Ramadhan Buffet from 6pm to 9pm and the promotion is almost the same as previous years.
Now the only difference is that PHOP has added a new set menu called the PHOP Gourmet Buffet. This is ideal for those who wants a simple combination of starters, main course, dessert and a drink for a price of $25.
What’s interesting about PHOP is the types of dishes they serve. It has a western feel and it uses pancakes instead of the usual rice to serve the main courses. You will be surprised that it is pretty tasty as well.
Make sure you try the Porto Pannekek (Salmon, egg) and the Chipotle dishes. My favourite so far. And of course, to end it off with the treasure box for dessert. For reservations, you can call 233 1668 (Berakas) or 243 0086 (Gadong). You can also follow on their IG handle @paddingtonpancakesbn
They also have special discounts (10% to 20%) for pancake lovers especially for take aways

Owner of Sugar and Spice Nash Salleh (L) and Chef Md Radwan (C) hand a free chicken shawarma to a customer. Image courtesy of Norliha Din of The Brunei Times.
Loyal customers of Sugar and Spice Arabic Food in Kiulap recently flocked to the restaurant to receive complimentary chicken shawarmas as part of the eatery’s way of welcoming the blessed month of Ramadhan.
The giveaway, which was from 3.30pm to 5.30pm, had patrons queuing up for the delectable Middle Eastern traditional grub.
In an interview with The Brunei Times, the owner of Sugar and Spice, Nash Salleh said the giveway was a regular activity during Ramadhan and Maulidur Rasul.
“I invited regular customers through a group chat and the words spread from there,” Nash said.
Meanwhile Chef Md Radwan Esbinati said more than 250 neatly packed shawarmas were freshly prepared for customers.
The Arabic cuisine is made of finely sliced grilled spiced chicken that is added with the chef’s special garlic sauce and wrapped in a warm pita bread.
Each customer can request as many shawarmas as they like, however, the numbers usually given away range from five to 10 shawarmas. “We hope to get the berkat (blessing) from the month of Ramadhan as they say the more you give, the more rezeki (sustenance) you will receive,” said Nash. For Sungkai lovers, CheezBox is back again with their Ramadhan promotion. I would highly to recommend you to do advance booking for CheezBox especially during Ramadhan because it’s just pretty popular. With a price tag of almost BND 30, you will know how much of a worth it is. It has one of the widest range of dishes available and they even cater for the 2nd batch comers (around 8pm if I’m not mistaken). I had the privilege to dine in last night with my buddies at CheezBoz Cafe. This year, they will have an interesting gimmick – for two adults and two kids, you will get a free Hello Kitty merchandise. Awesome!!
The dishes are recycled everyday and you will enjoy a different experience on your next visit. They have also the pizza station, popular among children, where you can make your own pizza. There’s also the pastry section for bread lovers.
CheezBox Cafe has been around since 2008 and it’s one of the best cafes in town. It has such a strategic location as well, smack down in the middle of Gadong. So you won’t definitely miss this spot whenever you are in Gadong. Again, I would recommend you to do advance booking as it was a packed house last night.
A great spread of appetizers
Some of the main dishes – mixed vegetables, mee hoon, garlic mussels and butter prawn
This is pretty tasty too. The salmon

Excapade Sushi Sungkai Buffet
I don’t know why but this is the fourth year running that I broke my fast at Excapade Sushi at Regent Square. The number one local sushi franchise has never fail to disappoint in the variety of dishes it served. This is also one of the restaurants that will need advanced bookings especially for Sungkai. It was full house on the first night as usual and it’s no surprise.
I’m a big fan of sashimi and I am impressed how the quality is still consistent. Excapade Sushi, being the largest Japanese restaurant outlet in Brunei, meant that they will have to stock up many food items to cate to the demand among the patrons. I’ve paid a visit to their supply store and wow, I didn’t realize how big their storage for food was. They have dedicated chillers for certain products and I’m pretty sure this is where most of the raw stuff especially the sashimi are being chilled. The management highly put quality as their priority to maintain the customers and gaining new ones. So if you are big fan of sashimi, you won’t be heading to the wrong place indeed. Even my friends from Miri and Sarawak frequent Excapade Sushi and ranked it higher than the Japanese restaurants at their home town. So thumbs up to Excapade Sushi for that.
There are simply tons of dishes to choose from.. Apart from the sashimi, there are also different choices of sushis and tempura. Even from crab lovers, they serve Hokkaido Snow Crabs (the claw and the leg part). Another impressive dish is the mussels. Yummy!! For me, my personal favourites are the Unagi sushi and Salmon sashimi. Every year, buffet doesn’t do me justice because I’m a light eater. I even missed out on the Edamame because there were simply too many choices at stake.
This year’s presentation has improved and they was even coverage by RTB which is the first of its kind for a sungkai outing. I was being interviewed too but I’m not sure when it will be aired.
So to my readers, I give this restaurant two thumbs up for maintaining the standard and the variety. For the price of $31 for adult, that’s a great steal indeed. Of course, more advantage if you happened to be a privilege member of Excapade Sushi $27.90. Check out the poster for mored details.
What I picked here is the Unagi 😀
You will be spoilt for choices at the sashimi section
