BIBD and BNCCC signs MoU

Written by Rano Iskandar on . Posted in Social News

Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Brunei Darussalam National Council on Climate Change (BNCCC) to cooperate in climate action solutions.

The MoU aims to establish, promote and develop cooperation between both parties in advancing climate action solutions to pave for Brunei Darussalam’s low carbon emission and establish climate-resilient pathways for a sustainable nation.

The MoU will also explore cooperation in any other areas of mutual interest such as the Protokol Hijau, Tree Planting activities, renewable energy, awareness and education campaigns, sustainable finance and investment in energy conservation, among many others.

“Rapid development projects and technological advancements have brought about some unwanted and negative impacts on our environments both locally and globally and the time to take action is now. We need to take a hollistic approach to drive the sustainability agenda and commitment further into the spotlight to ensure actions are being made immediately to achieve the BNCCC’s goal of net zero by 2050,” said the Acting Managing Director and CEO of BIBD, Hajah Noraini binti Hj Sulaiman.

“BIBD as a corporate citizen, is honoured to answer the call, becoming the first private organisation to be an official partner for the Race to Zero, through our strong partnership and collaboration with the BNCCC through the Brunei Climate Change Secretariat, Insya Allah. A pledge that will be taken as our core business values that will progressively shape the business ecosystem for BIBD and its Group of Companies moving forward,” she added.

The signing signifies the importance of maintaining a sustainable future for the next generation and highlights BIBD’s commitment and role in the sustainability agenda as the largest Islamic Financial Institution that stands on its strong roots and foundation of Maqasid Shariah which aligns with the SDG 2020 and Brunei Vision 2035 goals.

Permanent Secretary (Planning, Land Use and Environment) at the Ministry of Development (MoD) Yang Mulia Dr Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak, representative from BNCCC and Acting Managing Director & CEO of BIBD, Hajah Noraini binti Hj Sulaiman

A ceremony was held at the PGGMB building in the capital to mark the signing of the MoU. Signing the ceremony on behalf of BIBD was Hajah Noraini, Acting Managing Director & CEO of BIBD witnessed by the Chief Marketing Officer of BIBD, Hajah Nurul Akmar binti Haji Md Jaafar as Lead of the BIBD Sustainability Transformation Group.

Meanwhile the BNCCC was represented during the signing by Permanent Secretary (Planning, Land Use and Environment) at the Ministry of Development (MoD) Yang Mulia Dr Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak with Yang Mulia Tuan Haji Azhar bin Haji Yahya, Permanent Secretary, Department of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office as witness and Chair of the Executive Committee on Climate Change.

The MoU also aims to identify flagship projects in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy including solar panel installment at targeted residential areas. Key stakeholders of this particular initiative will include the Department of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Development, the Brunei Climate Change Secretariat, Housing Development Department and BIBD.

Through the MoU, BIBD as the first private organisation to be the ‘Partner To Race-to-Zero to His Majesty’s Government together with BNCCC lead agencies will also look into the potential development of green financing products to address market gap and encourage adoption among industry, business and retail levels.

On the sidelines of the signing ceremony, the BCCS showcased some of its projects and initiatives which include the Renewable Energy which is a strategy that seeks to ensure a smooth transition for nationwide adoption and use of renewable energy technologies for example the housing development solar panels.

BCCS also showcased its Protokol Hijau initiatives outlines the steps that need to be implemented to contribute significantly to the reduction of carbon footprint, through the adoption of efficient technologies and conservation measures in a number of areas

– energy; water; paper and plastic usage; waste disposal management, official events management; and tree planting.

Meanwhile BIBD also showcased various initiatives implemented as part its Sustainability Framework which include its first ESG Fund introduced and operated by BIBD Securities, education and awareness campaigns through mass media, recycled calendars, digital festive packets, glass bottles, participation in the Coastal Marvel clean-up campaigns and its Donate a Tree campaign plans.

As Brunei, as of 2020, is no longer a net carbon sink country, BIBD through this MOU will support BCCS and collaborate with GLCs such as Progresif and NGOS such as Brunei Youth Council, Green Brunei, Future Energy Leaders to increase carbon sink through afforestation and reforestation.

Present at the signing ceremony was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister of Finance and Economy II, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Chairman of BIBD.

Shariah Advisory Body of BIBD and other corporate partners.

In October 2021, BIBD launched its Sustainability Framework which is strongly aligned with the Maqasid Shariah and a wider set of sustainability principles; the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
BIBD’s Sustainability Framework has 13 areas of collaborations outlined in the MOU, although not limited to these, as it pledges a target commitment of B$2 billion towards Sustainability Funding by 2030, covering all areas of business, corporate sustainability, and corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Through this target commitment, BIBD seeks to take the lead on business practices and activities in the domestic market by promoting stewardship among Brunei corporates, supported by digitalisation, sustainability funding, community education and social inclusion.

To date, we have issued close to 40 awareness and education communication to the public plus various other initiatives as part of the small steps we initiated, which we hope will be the start of our sustainability journey to support His Majesty’s Government vision and goals towards achieving Net Zero 2050.

Brunei Shell Marketing Company Sendirian Berhad (BSM) has collaborated with Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) and Progresif to provide a cashless payment solution for customers at Roxana Filling Station in Seria.

The BIBD QuickPay and ProgresifPay cashless payment methods will provide convenience to customers who visit the self-service station. Customers can just pay via scanning of the QR code using their BIBD QuickPay or ProgresifPay mobile app inside the Roxana Kedai at the cashier. These cashless payment methods can be used for both fuel and non-fuel purchases.

This is in line with BSM’s efforts towards digitisation and commitment to provide the best service to customers by giving them convenience and safe fuelling at the stations. The newly added service will create an enhanced next generation customer experience by enabling them to pay with their mobile phones at the counter.

BSM Head of IT, Hajah Natrah Hj Ahmad said: “Roxana Station is our pilot project with the objective of providing an alternative cashless payment option to the Roxana station customers. This new mode of payment will provide ease for both our customers as well as to our daily operations at the Station where this will help mitigate risks relating to cash handling at stations.

“We would like to express our appreciation to the Brunei Government for their strong support and providing the opportunity for us to further develop the BIBDSEED programme. BIBD today realised the aspirations of Mohd Arraafi bin Rumzan and Lee Ye Kiat, when they brought home BND25,000 each as part of the third (3rd) quarterly draw for the BIBD Aspirasi Rewards Program.

Ten monthly winners also brought home BND2,500 each as part of the seventh (7 th) monthly draw. The winners were chosen from customers who had subscribed to Aspirasi, with a minimum holding period of 90 days. Since Aspirasi was launched on 1st September 2018, BIBD has awarded a total of 64 winners with total cash prizes amounting to BND250,000.

Prizes were handed over earlier today by the Guest of Honour, Dr Awang Abdul Nasir bin Haji Abdul Rani, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Islamic Finance, UNISSA in his capacity as a member of the BIBD Shariah Advisory Body. The current BIBD Aspirasi Rewards Program will come to an end with the grand draw of BND250,000 scheduled in September 2019.

To be eligible for the grand draw, customers must subscribe to BIBD Aspirasi for a minimum of 90 days prior to the draw, therefore BIBD advises those who have not yet subscribed to do so before the cut-off date of June 30th 2019. In order to bring even more chances to realise your aspirations, BIBD will soon announce the sequel to Aspirasi in the next few months, which promises to be an exciting and rewarding campaign which will appeal to all walks of life.

BIBD’s Head of Retail Banking, Hjh Nurul Akmar binti Hj Mohd Jaafar said “It gives us great joy to be able to play a part in realising the aspirations of our customers. The objective of this program was to instill a ‘wants can wait’ mindset and to encourage a culture of financial discipline, and based on the overwhelming response to Aspirasi so far, Alhamdulillah, we hope that we have achieved this objective. Insya Allah, we hope to run this campaign again, so we will keep everyone posted.”

BIBD Aspirasi, another one of its first introduced to the nation – has made the discipline of savings easier, more accessible and more convenient for its customers as subscriptions and redemptions can be made directly through the BIBD Mobile Application. This has helped customers create a savings discipline that BIBD hopes will become a habit, and will elevate the nation’s savings culture to a level that will be able to help them sustain their needs at every stage of their lives.

The annual event is back once more. Ladies will be spoilt for choices as they readied themselves for the upcoming festive of Hari Raya. The FashionValet pop-up event is currently being held at Indera Kayangan Ballroom and the first opening hours of the event was made exclusive to BIBD Perdana customers.

Now the event has been opened to public until 4th May (tomorrow) and it will be until 4pm.

Vivy Yusof made a one day appearance for her fans and of course, she’s the co-founder of FashionValet. Hajah Nurul Akmar binti Hj Md Jaafar, BIBD Head of Retail Banking, shared that BIBD’s partnership with FashionValet is more than just an annual pop-up event as it also showcases the local entrepreneurs at hand where they can be connected outside Brunei waters.

Some of the local vendors participating were Baitaal Hijab, Mumtaz Collections, Rozai Hijab, Mukaku Domestics and Mudaser. They were selected according to their ability to export and they will be trained by FashionValet on the know-how when it comes to being international. The said brands have already a proven track record locally and now it’s time for them to shine further. They also fall under the BIBD Catalyst program.

Good news for BIBD cardholders is that throughout the event, BIBD debit and credit cardholders will be entitled to exclusive discounts and earn double BIBD Hadiah Points which can be used to pay for utilities, donations, air miles and more.

BIBD 14th Home Showcase Festival

Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture launching the BIBD’s 14th Home Showcase Festival

It’s the 14th edition of the BIBD’s 14th “Home Showcase Festival” and this has become a household name in Brunei Darussalam. I remember attending almost all their home showcase events but to date, this is the biggest because it’s held for three days (12th to 14th April).

Buying a home has slowly become a culture among Bruneians and BIBD wants to ensure that home buyers’ dreams can become a reality by facilitating their needs with every step of the way.

According to Hajah Nurul Akmar binti Haji Md Jaafar, BIBD Head of Retail Banking, the Home Showcase will benefit the home owners and also providing a one-stop platform for current and prospective homeowners especially the young professionals.

Officiating the ceremony last Friday was Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, who spent quite some time visiting all the vendors that participated in the Home Showcase Festival.

Of course, let’s not forget BIBD’s QuickPay function where it’s cashless payments where you don’t need to fork out your physical money. I have been actively using it and I find it very, very convenient. The adoption rate was pretty good during Brunei’s MSME where the usage of QuickPay doubled, showing signs that people are ready to go cashless.

Customers can also get a BIBD NEXGEN Foldable Shopping Bag as long as stocks last with a minimum spending of BND10. The event also served as an avenue for local entrepreneurs and small and medium and enterprises (SMEs) as well as partnering realtors and interior designers to showcase their products and services.

BIBD Seeds, a special program for “Special Mothers Empowerment Entrepreneurship Development” Programme, aimed to transform underprivileged mothers into successful and resilient entrepreneurs, and some of the BIBD Seeds participants were present to sell their food and beverage business. Some of them will be graduating by end of April 2019 under the BIBD Seeds programme and soon, the second batch of entrants will partake in this successful program.

BIBD Home Showcase ends this Sunday. So do drop by BIBD Kiulap later and check out your home needs and also the local vendors participating in the event.

BIBD Aspirasi winners, Round 2

Written by Rano Iskandar on . Posted in bank, Business, Social News

Both winners Mohammad Hasnal and Izzati bin Mohammad Masli were full of emotions after their names were drawn to win the BND 25,000 cash prize (quarterly) as part of BIBD’s Aspirasi campaign earlier this afternoon at BIBD Kiulap.

It has happened again. The second batch of the quarterly winners have been feted. Mohammad Hasnal and Izzati bin Mohammad Masli both won the BND 25,000 each as part of the BIBD’s Aspirasi campaign earlier this afternoon.

BANK Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) recently drew out two quarterly and 10 monthly winners for its BIBD Aspirasi reward programme a few days ago and only today, the draw was conducted by Dr. Awang Abdul Nasir bin Hj Abdul Rani, a member of the Shariah Advisory Body at BIBD.

The idea of BIBD Aspirasi is to make people be aware the importance of savings and also to inculcate the savings culture within them and at the same time, supporting the customers to reach their financial goals and even preparing for the unexpected.

The prizes were handed by the guest of honor, Yang Mulia Hjh Noraini binti Haji Sulaiman, Deputy Managing Director of BIBD.

I hope one day I will get shortlisted as I’m also a BIBD Aspirasi customer. Oh yeah, the grand draw will be a whooping, life changing figure of BND 250,000 for the grand prize winner.

It’s easier to sign up for BIBD Aspirasi too. Good luck for the next round of winners.

Izzati plans to bring her mom for Umrah with the prize money. Alhamdullillah.

Hasnal has the intention for Haj pilgrimage and his wishes came true.
